30: Adventure

Tristan knew what to do. He was going to destroy the time points. An hour ago, he'd gotten a message informing all Z.E.I.T. agents to attend a meeting disguised as a party. He didn't know who send the message. Whether they were a friend or a foe. It didn't matter.

Time travel should never have been discovered. More than half the agents were killed or missing. Tristan didn't want to die now. He'd attend the party. Then, he'd never see another Z.E.I.T. agent again.

"Yes, but what does this have to do with anything?" Alan asked.

"They're renovating the entire building," Gloria repeated for the third time, "The floors, the electricity, the water, everything."

"We can't work without electricity, Alan," Ahmad had packed away most of his office belongings, "I'll miss your little guys."

"Yeah, they're cute," he carefully put away his figures, "But you literally know my address."

"It's four weeks," Mary groaned, "Why is everyone being dramatic?"

"Sorry for having hearts."

A renovation. A few cracked pipes and faulty cords in the right places, and Tristan could empty the whole building. He wasn't sure whether the fire would still take place. He didn't know where it would be if it did happen. He couldn't take risks. Z.E.I.T. wasn't going to hurt people anymore.

"Why are you all still here?" Dahlia came out of her long-emptied office.

"I don't want to leave heichou. What am I supposed to do for a whole month?"

"I'm sure you'll find something to do," she gave a sideways glance to Mary who blushed and went back to her desk.

"Yes, but it won't be the same-"

"You're so noisy," Ann called out.

"I'm going to miss you too, Ann."

"We haven't spent enough time with Ann though," Ahmad shrugged.

"Yeah."

"I'll take you to the club every night!" Gloria exclaimed, "Don't worry about getting bored."

"I, for one, am going to spend some of this time with my family," Ahmad closed his box with finality.

"You're such an adult."

"What? Visiting family is a normal human thing. Besides we're all adults."

"Yep," Gloria added, "We're all twenty-five and older."

"Twenty-four!" Mary yelled from her desk.

"Huh, guess Mary isn't an adult," Gloria stated. She burst into laughter with Alan, Evelyn, and Ahmad.

Tristan watched them happily. He wasn't coming back after the month. Neither him- he looked at his wife- nor Dahlia. She took his hand with a reassuring smile. She knew what this renovation really was.

He wasn't keeping anything from her anymore. He told her about the fake party. She knew about his childhood. His real name, however, remained a mystery.

"You really don't know it?" they were standing in the kitchen.

"I was too scared to try and find it out."

"Do you want to know what it is?"

"I'm not sure."

"Well, you are married to me as Tristan Antonov," she wrapped her arms around his neck, "It'd taken an awful lot of effort to change that."

"Guess I'll stay Tristan Antonov then."

"Tristan, are you done emptying your desk?" Ahmad questioned.

"It didn't really have much to empty."

"Then we're all done."

"Yes," everyone agreed.

"So long, meeting room, break room, desk," Alan waved as he left. He gave each of them a hug.

"We'll see each other again, Alan, don't worry," Ahmad patted his back.

"See you soon, dōshi," Tristan chuckled.

Alan gasped, "He used it! Mary! You owe me twenty dollars!"

Dahlia shook her head as he went dashing to Mary, "He's clueless," she mumbled.

"Shall we?" Tristan said as Dahlia took one last look at the office.

"Let's," she reached out to hook her arm in his.

"Alright, lovebirds!" Gloria walked between them, "Wait til I'm out."

They laughed as she ran to the elevator.

"You're sure about your decision?"

"You don't have to look so worried," she assured him, "I'll still have a job. It'll just be online."

"Yes, but you've worked here for twelve years."

"Everything comes to an end. You're sacrificing something, I'm sacrificing something."

"Yes, but we could just-"

"Long distance it? No, we can't. I sleep at ten, are you kidding me?"

"All right, all right. I guess we're going on a great adventure."

"Dahlia and Tristan stopping the evil time travel boogeymen," she said.

Dahlia and Tristan. He couldn't believe he really was doing this. Perhaps it was a family thing; running away with their partners.

He couldn't help but smile as he saw Gloria join the rest of his coworkers in the parking lot. No, not coworkers; friends. They were teasing Alan and bickering together. He already missed them.

He'd miss the office soon. He'd miss the whole atmosphere of Kerzillion. Tristan was unsure of what the world had in store for him, but he was ready for it. He'd made a family. Even if he was leaving that family now, he was glad he got to experience it once.

"Don't pout," Dahlia poked his side, "I'm still here."

"Of course, my paradise, I'll just miss them," he sighed.

"I'll miss them too. But we can still visit."

"True. Now I believe we have some shopping to do?"

"I still don't understand why you need a silent gun."

"Because I lost mine and-"

"The party might be dangerous," she continued.

"Besides, we also have to get the perfect outfits."

"We'll look good, anyway."

"You make a good point, Dahlia Garcia," he grinned opening the car door for her, "We'll be the hottest pair."

"You're such a child."

"And you're gorgeous."

"Tristan," she rolled her eyes.

"Yes?"

"I love you."

"I love you too, my paradise."
