Chapter Eleven
I Can't Have Children, I'm A Man!
I awoke when I heard my bedroom door open, I rubbed my eyes but couldn't make anything out in the darkness. I took in a deep breath and sat up, but as I did, I could hear someone else shuffling around in my room, I wasn't alone.
The light underneath the door was able to reveal a pair of feet - there was someone else in this room with me.
Knowing the layout of the room, I quietly got off of the bed, it was creaky and I couldn't risk hiding on it. I then walked away from the bed in an attempt to get behind the intruder.
"I'm sorry James, but this is for my daughter." Spoke a weak voice, it was defiantly a man's voice... Wait, could it have been _____'s father?
Why would he apologise? Why is he in my room? Just as I was about to speak, I heard him cry out as he hit my bed.
"Just die, James, you traitor!" He kept hitting my bed.
I slipped my shoes on and quickly opened the door, letting the light shed in the room.
"What?" I asked, standing in te doorway, I could now see that he held a dagger with both of his hands, he was repeatedly stabbing the bed. I was supposed to be there.
"Sir?" I called out. He seemed panicked as he stood up straight and towards me, hiding the dagger behind his back.
"Oh! James! There you are! Where were you?" He asked.
He must have thought I was elsewhere, I could use this to my advantage, "I was out organising the events planned for Sir Johnny's wedding." I lied.
"What wedding? My daughter is still missing! Oh..." He smiled slightly, "Have they finally found her?" He asked, hopeful.
It hurt me to lie, but Johnny had probably sent him to kill me, this must have been his intention to get rid of me.
"No, Sir... Sorry, have you not heard? Sir Johnny is marrying the daughter of a French noble to maintain peace and to gain land there." I explained.
"French? What? What is her name?" He began stuttering.
"Uh, name? I believe it to be Maria Mentiroso." I bit my bottom lip.
"That sounds Spanish..." He spoke.
"Yeah, strange world, don't you say?" I tried to laugh it off. I am a horrible liar.
"I'll need to have a talk to Johnny then..." He muttered.
"It's Sir Johnny!" I subconsciously corrected. Dammit.
"I don't give a damn." He now held the dagger by his side, his gaze was cold, I moved out of his way as he past me in the doorway.
"I suggest you forget this ever happened, boy." He warned me. I nodded slowly as I watched him disappear around the corner.
I took in a deep breath, then turned towards my room and lit a candle, letting more light flood my room. I pulled a bag out and quickly packed my clothes and belongings while changing into something more suitable, it wasn't safe for me to be here - I'll go to Francis's castle, I'm sure they're all there hiding from that vermin disease like Francis told me.
Before I leave though, I should probably help out _____'s father, it would be wise on my part since I did kind of put him in that situation. Oh fuck me.
---
"Say, do you think that there is land on the other side of the planet with people of a different ethnicity and different beliefs?" Francis asked.
"What do you mean?" I half paid attention to him as I read through some of the passages of a document from Britain on nobility. I was lucky to find this, honestly, because I'm in a French library. Everything is French.
"I mean, like, what if even though we believe that we have discovered every inch of land and stuff, what if there is more land out there, heck, what if there are undiscovered nations out there?
Listen - if I ever discover land and make a nation, I've already got it's name in mind. Canada!" His eyes glistened.
"That's great, Francis." I huffed as I put the document back and looked for something else, to be honest, I don't think I'll find something of upmost importance here, but I suppose it's still worth a shot...
"Canada, yeah that's a good name... Hey Artie, are you ever going to have children?" He then asked.
I stopped searching for a moment, stunned by his question before snapping back, "No, I can't have children, I'm a man, remember?"
"Ohonhon!" He began cracking up.
"What's so funny?" I turned towards him.
"You." He said as he continued to laugh.
I smiled, finally someone thought I was funny, it was finally my time to shine- "You said that you're a man." He interrupted my happiness.
"What?" I asked.
"You think you're a man! Ohonon, maybe you are a man under British standards, but if that's true, standards must have really dropped!" He continued laughing.
I hit him with a book.
"Ow." He rubbed his head as he picked the book up from the floor, "Oh, dumb luck." He then smiled as he showed me the title of the book, it had the same amulet we found, it was drawn on. "You found it."
"Is it in English?" I asked eagerly, walking over to get it from him. He didn't hand it over but instead flipped through the mostly blank pages, "No, idiot, you're in France, this is French, but I am Francis and I will translate!" He grinned.
Huh, I guess I never even noticed that Francis was similar to France... Hm, "Fine, read it then." I said, well sort of ordered.
"Alright..." He flipped to a page with what looked like instructions and began to translate as he read, "As I mentioned in the previous chapter, this amulet is extraordinary, as it has given me abilities that has gotten me far in life. I've listed my findings below, and instructions on how to use it. But remember, Be Careful."
The words were underlined in the book, not in italics, but wattpad doesn't allow the author to underline, only italicise and bolden words, sorry... Sorry for saying that, and for, you know, breaking the wall...
"Read the instructions then." I spoke. Francis nodded and began, "By simply wearing the thing, it appears that I can not only levitate, but also read minds and wish for things that aren't physically near me, it's magic.
In order to do any of this, you must have an open mind to both supernatural things as well as scientific things, though these things tend to collide, it is nessisary. I still haven't been able to examine why, but perhaps they go hand in hand in this situation?
Second, it's pretty straight foreword with it being a wearable amulet, but some people might forget this fucking rule... Actually, I'm the only one whose going to read this so, yeah I forgot to put it on a few sixty three times... Anyways, once you put it on, go to the next instruction." I stopped Francis there.
"Wait, they forgot to put it on?" I laughed slightly, "Who is this idiot?" I asked.
Francis turned a page back and read the name at the bottom of the page, "Written by Johnny M. P."
My eyes widened slightly, "Unbelievable..." My voice was faint.
Then Francis had to fuck the moment up by turning around and snapping, "What the hell do you mean by that? You knew the thing was his, why is the book with a detailed drawing of it surprising?"
"Because I thought maybe it would be a demon or at least a person who had owned it before handing it away." I responded.
Francis shook his head, "Right... Well, the last paragraph on the other page just said that you have to imagine what you want and it will be brought to you, so why don't we go imagine a cure for the plague so I can kick you out already?" Francis suggested.
I frowned slightly but walked behind him as we left the library, and towards _____, I think she has the necklace if I'm remembering right.
---
"Wow, you remembered my name right!" Samantha grinned. She had a broken bow hanging by her hip, it was the bow that Antonio broke when Francis and I first met. On her back, however, she had a different bow. It was clean and in one piece.
"Yeah... Of course, Sa-" Feliciano was quickly cut off by her, "Don't say it again." She spoke sternly.
"Can we help you?" I straightened myself up, staring her in the eyes.
She grinned, walking closer to me, "Why yes! You can!" She spoke.
"You see, I was promised one hell load of money by Arthur if I helped him and assisted him no matter what, but you see, the problem is that after we were captured, I escaped. He's awake now, but has shown no intentions of escaping." She walked around me, I grew nervous that maybe she would see the amulet.
In an attempt to hide it, I quickly put it on. She caught me though and frowned, "What's that?" She asked.
"What's what?" I smiled nervously.
"You just put something on, why?" She asked.
I tried to think of an excuse, but in the heat of the moment, I couldn't, "I'm sorry, but you never did explain to me why you are here." I spoke.
I turned towards her, her eyes remained narrowed, behind her, stood Feliciano, he was close to the door and could escape to tell the others if he was quick and if I could keep Samantha distracted.
"Don't change the topic." She spoke grimly.
"I'm not doing that intentionally, I'm curious, and I would like to know your motives before I explain myself." I replied.
Feliciano took a step back, understanding that he could leave if he were careful.
"My motives? My motive is that there is a price over your head in England, and another one over Arthur's head for your kidnapping. I want that money, understand? So I declare you come with me and I won't harm you."
"You're going to risk harming me?" I laughed confidently, to which she quickly retorted, "As long as you're still alive, I'm sure that they wouldn't mind a few scratches on the package."
Damn. That was terrifying.
Feliciano, however was finally at the door, all he had to do now was open the door and call for help.
My heart began to race as I tried to think of something to say, "Oh, so you're going to take Arthur and I back to England?" I felt breathless.
She nodded, "And it's extra money for every assisting party, so that means Francis, Antonio, Lovino, and-" she turned towards Feliciano, the door was slightly opened wore she quickly fired an arrow, hitting the door only inches away from his face, "You, Feliciano." She finsihed.
Feliciano fell to the ground and began crying, I didn't like it this way, but hwy, at least his crying could bring others here.
As Samantha was turned towards Feliciano, I grabbed the empty pasta bowl and quickly hit her back with it, causing her to tumble foreword before hitting the ground. It was strange though, I could have sworn that the bowl was no where near my hand when I reached for it; it was as if it had somehow teleported, which sounds crazy, but maybe I just didn't see where it was in the first place..
"Come on!" I shouted, running to the door. Feliciano pulled it open, letting me through first, as we began running, we ran past Arthur and Francis.
"Run!" Feliciano and I shouted in unison.
"What why?" Arthur asked, still turning to run behind Feliciano and I.
"Come back now!" We heard Samantha shout over, firing arrow after arrow, we managed to dodge given the fact that she was probably due to her malnutrition, she looked sick, and so she was not at her best.
After running up the stairs, we a managed to find a room, we all ran inside and locked the door behind us, this would buy us some time at least until Francis and Arthur could get their weapons or something.
"Was that Samantha?" Arthur asked, breathing heavily.
Feliciano and I nodded.
"Maybe she is the one who you saw in your room?" Francis asked. I shrugged and went to sit on the bed, "She wants to send us all back to Europe to claims a reward." I explained.
"A reward?" Arthur ran his fingers through his hair, "hah, I almost forgot that I was paying everyone to help me in kidnapping you." He turned towards me.
"Bloody jolly." I flashed a smile, "Well she's angry now." I spoke, "She really wants that money."
"Yeah, I get that." He responded before noticing that I was wearing the amulet.
"You're wearing it?" He asked, almost shoked.
I looked down and held it in my hands, "Yeah, I guess so." I responded, I let it fall back down at my neck, "It's pretty cool." I admitted.
"Do you know how to use it?" He asked eagerly.
"No stupide, unlike us, she doesn't know. She can't just read what we have discovered about it like they are!" Francis hit Arthur with the book.
"Who's they?" Feliciano asked nervously, looking around the room.
"Them..." Francis whispered, looking at the eager face through the camera on their electronics, "They're always watching... Always... Reading..." He shivered.
"...What does it do...?" I asked, trying to change the topic.
"You can sort of control things with your mind, by imagining it, it's truthfully magic!" He smiled, his eyes then darkened as we heard the door handle shake violently from the other side.
"Open up! In getting in one way or another. Let's just make it easier and open up!" Samantha was laughing maniacally.
"_____, you can imagine things and make them real, imagine some weapons so we can get this over with." Arthur spoke.
"Yeah..." I spoke, looking down at the amulet, the engraving of a star almost entirely made sense now.
"Just imagine something... How hard can that possibly be?" I smiled.
