Walking up to the gentleman checking invitation cards he nodded his head as one stepped forward asking the people before him to step aside. Pulling her closer they passed the checkpoint heading into the tent as she looked around amazed. A live band was playing music and she looked at him in wonder.
"You really went all out," she said as he smirked at her statement as they passed some tables heading to the head table.
"I didn't do this. Vince had all this arranged," he said as he helped her into her seat.
Taking his seat beside her as a waiter came to take their orders.
A few minutes passed as they chatted before the other guests joined their table.
"Jacob, it's so good to see you here. I can see the business is thriving as always," they heard as he turned away from her looking at the man who had said these words.
Smiling at the man he greeted him formally doing the same for everyone around the table as they acknowledged each other before turning back to Esther without any more words. Leaning towards her she leaned towards him as he whispered a joke into her ear making her laugh.
Signaling for a waiter to come over he whispered a few words into his ear. A few minutes later the same waiter came over and informed that his request was prepared. Standing up he held his hand out to her and she looked at him confused. He simply smiled as she placed her hand in his allowing him to lead her away from the table and out of the tent.
A table was set up away from the noise close to the garden fountain. He helped her into her chair before taking his across from her.
Their food was brought over and as they had their meal he surprised her as he offered her some of his food. As she was about to sample his vegetables he chuckled cutting his steak and holding the fork towards her. He fed her and watched as she closed her eyes chewing her steak.
She opened her eyes to find him looking at her his lips lightly parted and a look in his eyes she couldn't decipher.
"Jake are you alright?" she asked as he reached for his glass of water.
"I'm alright love," he smiled as he sat back continuing with his meal.
She smiled as she cracked a joke to kick-start their conversation.
"Would you care to dance," he asked her as she smiled shyly looking back at him. He had noticed her stealing glances towards the dancing couples under the tent.
"I...I can't dance. I never learned," she said.
"Come I will teach you," he said standing up.
"Now?" she asked surprised.
He smiled at her as he pulled her up towards him. Walking towards the tent he saw Vince who greeted him jovially seeing Esther there as well. As he introduced his wife to her he allowed the ladies to get acquainted as he whispered to his friend.
"Every man here already knows she is hands off with the way you are holding her," he smirked as he watched his friend look away watching her laugh.
"They better," he said in a low voice as he moved closer to her. "We still need to dance love," he whispered into her ear as she looked at him with a fond smile.
Reaching the dance floor he couldn't help but notice that several men were looking at her despite the fact that they had dates of their own. All fine specimens by their own accord and ethnicity as he wrapped his hand around her waist turning her into his arms. He frowned as he looked for the best option to dance with her.
Kneeling before her he looked up at her with a smile as his hands went for her leg. She let out a small gasp as he fingers grazed her skin whilst she reached for his shoulder for support. Removing her shoes she stood shorter than before as a maid appeared. Shrugging off his jacket he seemed not to care that a few eyes where on them as he handed the young lady his jacket.
"Shall we," he said as he took her hand.
Facing each other he smiled as he stepped closer to her. "Just trust me," he whispered as a slower song started to play. "Put your feet on mine," he said as she looked at him. Slowly wrapping his arm around her waist he pulled her closer to him as she wrapped her arms around his neck before he started to move to the music. "See, you are dancing," he murmured as the lights where dimmed.
"I'm not bad hey?" she said making him chuckle.
"Not bad at all," he whispered looking into her eyes as she leaned to rest her head on his chest as he moved to the music.
The song ended as he held her close whilst she looked at him before slowly stepping away from him. Walking away from the dance floor he led her to a chair as her shoes where handed to him. Helping her put on her heels on he accepted his jacket before he received a message from the same girl.
"I have to attend to an urgent call," he said apologetically.
"It's alright. I will be by the bar," she said as he nodded his head in acknowledgement.
Excusing himself he rushed off towards Vincent.
Ordering some orange juice from the bartender she accepted her drink and took a sip loving the taste on her tongue. A familiar touch grazed her shoulder as she turned looking at him making her lose all color from her face as he smiled at her.
"Benjamin," she whispered.
"It's no longer Ben?" he said with an amused look.
