Prologue

The sound of the main door scraping open reached George's ears. "George! I'm home! I got your chocolate bars!" his sister, Penny voiced. George still loved chocolate bars despite being 16. He pushed open the door immediately, his mouth watering. He had been able to consume much candy recently, because he could not take big amounts of sugar in the week to make sure the testing would go properly.

In the end, he ended up chickening out and running home. My family had to be apart during the testing so he had not seen my family at all. Penelope, his big sister ran home after she had finished her own tests and realised that he was not there. She lied and told her parents that George felt uncomfortable from the tests so she brought had brought him back home first.

Then, their parents went for the first day of their new jobs. Turned out that he would never see them again, or at least seeing them sane...

"Here's your favourite Toblerone Cookies & Cream chocolate bar!" Penny said merrily as she handed the chocolate bar to George. "And here's a bunch of original Skittles," she added. "Thanks, Penny," George said. "So, how's Mum and Dad?" he asked afterwards. "Great, they said they felt energetic and strong. They should be back in one or two hours. Their work shift just ended, and I texted them to check in on how their day was about half an hour ago. Strangely, I haven't got a response, and the message didn't even go through to Dad," Penny told George.

"Well, Mum and Dad aren't really the fastest couple to reply to messages," George debated. "True. Anyway, it's quite sad that you missed the test. Even though I don't have White Fever or any illness, this substance is making me feel good. Energetic. Strong. Imm—OW!" Penny tried to sweet-talk me about the "great" advantages of the test before a loud, painful wince came out of her.

"Penny? What's wrong?" George panicked. "Oh drat, there's blood trickling down from your left eye!" he added. Not a good thing to say since it only made her tenser. "I know, I feel the sharp pa—OW!" she said before wincing again. "Oh no, your other eye too!" George screamed. "I think... I think the substance did this..." she theorised. "Mom and Dad took the test too... if these symptoms are showing up for you now, what about them? That's probably why they aren't happening. I think something happened!" George wheezed.

"George, calm down. Just lead me to the bath—kill... room..." she slurred. "What did you say?" George panted in shock. "Bath... room..." Penny continued. He lead her forward as her eyesight continued to worsen. She splashed some water on her eyes, trying to rinse the blood off to freshen up. It stopped the bleeding, but in terms of pain, it obviously didn't work when Penny continued to huff.

"The bleeding has stopped; how do you feel?" George asked. "Horrible. I can see slightly better, but my vision looks like its tinted—blood—red..." she slurred again. "Why do violent words keep popping out in your sentences? Kill? Blood? Seriously?" George confronted. "It's like, I can't control what I'm saying. I need to—claw you... I mean, get you out of here. Something's happening to me..." Penny exhaled.

Out of all the unfortunate events, she suddenly pranced at George. Stunned, he shrieked loudly, his face washed over by a tsunami fear and sweat, and tumbled back, crawling backwards. "Run... George! Run! I'll... kill you!" Penny warned before a demonic voice took over.

George's legs shuffled down the stairs like jelly. There were, and up to now, are still not enough words to explain the terror that he was experiencing. First, his parents and sister do a test of a supposed illness cure in which he backed out from. Next, he finds out that my parents aren't replying to Penny's texts. Then, Penny starts to experience eye-bleeding and disability to control her speech.

George ran over to my neighbour's house. Well, except for the fact that there was no neighbour. No one lived there. It was a twin house of his; meaning that it looked the same. Exactly the same. He thought that it was not really smart of him to retreat a house just beside mine, since once the substance takes control of his sister's brain, the twin house would be the first place that she'll look at to find him.

He locked the main door closed and ran up the stairs. The house looked identical, even its interior. The only difference was the furnishing. He ran up to the "twin" version of my room and saw an empty cupboard. He pushed it out a little and hid behind it.

Then he heard door banging sounds. Penny was breaking into the house. Oh no, he thought. Best idea to hide in the most obvious place to search in first. But after he pondered for a while, where else could he go? He couldn't walk on the smoking hot roads and get burnt.

"Georgie! Come outie!" she tried to lure me. "Come out, or I'll kill you! Actually, what the heck? I'll kill you either way!" Then George realised it was her last sentence. She stopped talking.

She wasn't Penny anymore. She was an infected creature.
