As A Family

1:15 AM

Petra sat on the bed of her sister, alone. Sebastian found a comfortable spot in his bed and was out before his head hit the pillow. "Are you going to feel me what the hell is going on now?" Petra annoyingly grunted. Nastasia sat on her bed and popped a blue piece of candy in her mouth.

"I read on the internet that Jolly Ranchers help with morning sickness," she replied. Petra's ears perked at the words morning sickness in the same sentence.

"Nani!" The thirteen year old screamed. Nani placed her hand over her sister mouth.

"Don't scream. I don't need Seb knowing about this," she said. A funny look came across the students face.

"What do you mean? He's eventually going to find out when you get bigger!" She said. Nani shook her head. "No? No you won't get bigger? Why wouldn't you— No!" Petra pieced together.

"Yeah."

"Nani, you can't," Petra pleaded.

"I have to. I'm too young not to. I'm graduating high school soon," she justified. Petra folded her arms and rolled her eyes.

"But, mommy did it," she fought. Nastasia rolled her eyes and sat back.

"Her child also didn't come out looking like her supposed to be brother! They would probably force me to if they knew!" Nani worried. Petra folded her arms in disbelief. "What now?" Nastasia groaned.

"You are really going to go through with such a traumatic event to keep you and Sebs secret? I think mom would rather you keep it, than not because of that. At least the father would be on the picture!" Petra answered. Nani shook her head furiously.

"No, he wouldn't. If I did, I wouldn't tell them who it belonged to. Seb can be uncle Seb, but that's it. I would rather raise this baby alone than have both of our lives ruined," Nani said. Petra could see she was trying to protect her brother, but in that situation she didn't think it was fair.

"You guys made that together. You don't think he's going to want to be there. He's going to want to be there for the birth, the first day of school, the first bike. You really believe that he would allow you to keep him from that? I mean did you hear him. While joking he was upset the crib wouldn't be in his room. He is—"

"P!" Nani interrupted. "I thought about all of that, which is why I can't. There will be nothing for him to miss out on if it don't. No one gets hurt and nobody has to know," she finalized. Petra couldn't believe what she was hearing. Her little niece or nephew wasn't going to stand a chance.

"Why are you telling me, then? It seems like you could have done this by yourself," Petra sulked. Nani moved from her bed to sit next to her sister, pulling her under her blanket.

"Because, if any of that were true, I would've done it two weeks ago when I found out. I'm scared out of my mind and not ready to tell mom or dad or Seb. And when I think of all the things that come with telling them, I think about not doing it. But, I can't. I know I'm young, but like you said, mom did. She's just going to be disappointed that I followed in her footsteps," Nani honestly spoke.

"Or," Petra started, picking up her sisters head, "she could be proud that you came to her," she guessed. Nani rose and eyebrow with a giggle.

"I am not sure 100 percent sure that's the emotion she'll feel, but if you say so," Nani laughed. Petra quickly shrugged, then pushed her sister out of her bed.

"Guess we will find out tomorrow," Petra smirked, lying back in her bed.

"Tomorrow? What? No!"

"That wasn't a suggestion," Petra sang, shutting off the light and leaving her older sister to her own devices. I can't tell her tomorrow. She just had heart surgery. This going to stress her out even more. But, I guess being in the hospital isn't the worst place to find out. I don't know.

Pippa stopped her phone in her lap and took a deep breath. "I'm worried, babe," she expressed. "What if the doctors made a mistake? What if something is wrong with her heart too?" Lin shook his head and slid farther into the bed with his fiancé.

"Don't say that. The doctors didn't miss anything. She's probably just got a bug. You know how schools are. A cesspool of germs. She probably caught something there," Lin tried. He knew that Pippa's worry would only make recovery harder and didn't want the 6-8 weeks to be dragged out any longer.

"You're right," Pippa nodded. She needed to think positive. Her daughters sickness was only temporary. Nothing life threatening. Which technically wasn't incorrect.

8:17 AM

Rain coated the windows of Phillipa's hospital room as the entire family ate breakfast together. While eating, Lin noticed the glare of the diamond ring on the floor by his foot and knew the kids would notice soon. "Hey, guys," he said, setting his fork on his plate. "Mom and I want tell you guys something," Lin said. Petra immediately looked up, not interested in her breakfast, while her siblings were basically racing to see who could finish first.

"What's up, Pops?" Sebastian asked with a mouth full of pancake. Pippa tried not to laugh, but she definitely missed having the family together as one. It had been years since they were all together and even then Petra was still a fetus. She'd dreamed of that day for years and even though she'd imagined it in a house upstate and not a hospital; it was a start.

"Mom and I are getting married," he shared, showing off the ring. Sebastian and Nastasia were physically excited, because they sort of knew it was coming. Petra on the other hand was not.

"M—married?" She whispered. Her brain flew a mile a minute, while her siblings hugged and congratulated their parents. Her butt seemed glued to couch, unable to get up and run. And before she knew it her mouth was moving and her brain was asleep. "Nani's pregnant!" She announced, before feeling the freedom of her lower half and taking off out of the room. Stares were shared around the room, but ultimately fell on Nastasia when Sebastian dipped to check in his baby sister.

"What?" Pippa asked. Anger filled her eyes, ready to kill whoever's son did that. Little did she know, it was her fiancé's. Nani slowly dropped onto the couch behind her, not able to shake her parents eyes.

"I— she wasn't—" Nani stuttered.

"Stas, is that true?" Lin asked. All the 17 year old could do was nod. "How? Who?" He investigated.

"Nani, we talked about this. No sex! I thought I was clear!" Pippa yelled. Nastasia folded her arms over her chest as she sank into the couch.

"I'm sorry. I wasn't thinking," she cried. "We used condoms, I don't know what happened," she revealed. Phillipa rose an eyebrow before she shoved the rolling table away from her.

"Lin, go check on Petra," Phillipa said, excusing him. The father took a hint and left the woman alone. "What the hell happened?" Pippa asked, trying not to freak out, knowing from experience that that doesn't help. Nastasia shrugged and laid her head back on the back of the couch.

"I fell in love, mama. I got caught up, fell in love, and now I'm stuck," Nastasia replied. Phillipa couldn't believe her ears. She didn't even know her daughter was interested in boys let alone seeing one.

"Why didn't you come to me before? Why didn't you say anything?" Pippa asked. Nani brought her tear filled eyes to her mother's face and shook her head.

"It was too late. And besides, you wouldn't get it," Nani covered. She still had no plans on telling her parents who the father was. She couldn't risk it. And even though she'd told her sister she wasn't going to get an abortion, it was sounding like the best option in that moment.

"Well, what do you want to do?" Pippa asked. She wasn't going to force her daughter make any decisions she wasn't ready for, but she was praying not to become a grandmother just yet, in all honesty.

"I have to talk to the father, I don't know," Nastasia replied. She didn't get a good look at Sebastian's face before he stormed off, but she assumed, it wasn't a happy look.

Down the hall, Sebastian finally caught up to his little sister. Her arms wrapped around her torso, in tears. "Hey! What was that?" Sebastian asked. "Nani's not pregnant."

Petra rolled her eyes, pulling her body to face away from him. "You can't possibly believe that her being pregnant is impossible. You're not that stupid. Or maybe you are, seeing how we got in this mess," Petra muttered. Sebastian stepped back, across the glass hall, with his back on railing.

"She told you that? And it's mine?" He asked. Petra shrugged her shoulders.

"Good luck. Mom and dad are going to flip," Petra answered.

"She wants to keep it? I hope she does. I want to—"

"What? Raise the kid in your own little family? Wake up! Our parents are getting married! Your child is your niece or nephew! That's insane!" Petra yelled.

"I'm in love with her!" Sebastian yelled back. "It may be insane, but I don't care! We weren't raise as siblings! She isn't my sister! And we are having a baby together!" He stated.

"What?" Petra and Sebastian looked down the hall, seeing Lin fuming. Neither of them had seen him so angry. "Sebastian, tell me you two didn't," Lin tried, giving his son a chance to clarify. A sigh cane from the seventeen year olds mouth.

"Look, it started out as something fun to do, but I quickly caught feelings. I love her. I'm in love with her. And I want to be there for my child," Sebastian declared. Lin humorlessly laughed and shook his head.

"When we get back, you're out. I can't speak for Pippa, but you are no longer welcome in our house,"Lin finalized. Sebastian stares at his father as if he'd just sent a dagger through his heart.

"Wait, what?" Sebastian whispered.

"Dad! That's a bit harsh! He didn't—"

"He broke the rules, Petra. And his insubordination dragged two more lives into it. He's out," Lin said, before walking away, back to Pippa's room. Slowly, Sebastian slid to the floor holding his knees.

"What am I supposed to do, now? How am I supposed to support Nani and the baby, now?" He rhetorically asked. Petra stood in silence and for the first time, she saw her brother cry. It was clear that the feelings he held for Nani, were stronger than any other girl.

"We can fix this! Mom won't let him do it. I promise. It will be okay," Petra rambled. Sebastian shook his head, then dropped it on his knees. All his plans of being a better father than his own, had just shattered. How was he supposed to be a good father when he couldn't even be under the same roof as his child?

In a fit of rage, Lin barged into Phillipa's room to see the mother and daughter cuddling in the bed. "Do you know?" He yelled. Phillipa looked oddly at her man, then to her daughter.

"Know what?" She asked. Nastasia's eye became fearful of whatever Lin knew and he could see it.

"The father of her child is Sebastian," he announced. Phillipa looked to her daughter as Nani climbed out of the bed.

"Wait, what? I— how?" Pippa started to hyperventilate. Before anyone could do anything a team of nurses rushed into the room to address Pippa's bleeding wound and spiked pressure.

"Mommy?" Nani cries as she and Lin were pushed out of the room. Lin went to hug Nastasia but was shoved across the empty way. "Why would you do that? I didn't tell her because she just had surgery! Are you trying to kill her?" Nani validly screamed. Lin folded his arms and dropped his head.

"She needed to know—"

"She needed to heal! But you were so selfish and so ready to get the drop on us, that you didn't even think about the consequences of stressing your fiancé! If she losses this heart and her life, that's on your hands!" Nastasia screamed, before heading off down the hall to find the others.

Lin cuddled himself, before running a hand over his face. What are you doing man? None of this is helping. Take it easy. Let this marinate for a few dats and revisit. As a family.
