• Winnie, Do You Copy •

IT WAS A NICE SUMMER NIGHT IN HAWKINS, tonight was the night that Winnie and the gang were going to sneak into a rated R movie. A new mall called Starco Mall opened and was the highlight of everyone's summer, Winnie had went with Max loads of times and even getting a couple of clothes with her mom.

For the movie Winnie had brought her backpack and in it had a couple of snacks and drinks for the gang. She was waiting for Mike with Will, Lucas, and Max. They all knew why Mike was late again. It was because he was hanging out with El. Ever since they reunited they were attached to each other by the hip. Always bailing on them, Winnie understood but sometimes she would be third wheeling and it sucked.

"Dude, he's late again. We might as well go without him." Lucas says.

"We give him five more minutes." Winnie says to him and Max stood beside Winnie.

"Can I have the snacks yet?" Max says trying to grab the bag, and Winnie smacks her hand.

"No, wait for the movie." She told her.

Winnie turns her head and at the parking lot she sees Mike riding his bike quickly to them.

"You're late." Lucas tells him. "Again!"

"Sorry." Mike says putting his bike at the bike rack and locking it to the bar.

"We're gonna miss the opening." Will says.

"Yeah, if you keep whining about it. Let's go!" Mike says and they all ran inside the mall to get to the theatre.

"If you guys keep whining about it." Lucas mocks following behind mike.

"Just please stop talking, dude." Mike says.

"Let me guess, you were busy." Lucas began to make kissing noises and Mike shoved him.

"Real mature Lucas."

"Oh El, I wish we could make out forever, and never hang out with any of our friends." Lucas says continuing to mocks Mike.

"Lucas, stop." Winnie tells him.

"Will thinks it's funny." Lucas says pointing at Will.

"Yeah, cause it is."

"Yeah, it's so funny that I want to spend romantic time with my girlfriend. Winnie spends time with Dustin too."

"I'm spending romantic time with my girlfriend." He says pointing to Max. "Also Winnie and Dustin don't swap spit every minute, they don't only kiss. Plus they haven't seen each other for a whole month."

Winnie's smile faltered, Dustin has gone to Camp Know Where for a whole month and she really missed her boyfriend. She hung out with her friends and tried to not feel so lonely but she missed her Han Solo, they both talked on the phone as much as they could but made plans for what they wanted to do for the summer. She always wore her pudding ring that Dustin had gotten her for the Snow Dance and every time she missed him she would stare at that ring. But  Dustin was suppose to come home tomorrow and she couldn't wait to spend her summer with him, it was all she was looking forward too.

The five of them rushed down the escalator, trying to get to their location. The five them trying to make their way past people and saying "sorry." When they pumped into people. They made it down and bumped into a group of girls.

"Sorry." Lucas says.

"Yeah, watch it nerd!" Erica, Lucas's sister said to him.

"Isn't it past your bedtime?" Lucas asks her tauntingly.

"Isn't it time you died?" She retorted. "Hey Winnie!" She says to her smiling.

"Hey Erica! Be nice to your brother, we are the ones to give him a hard time." Winnie says jokingly and pushes Lucas.

They enter "Scoops Ahoy Ice Cream Parlor" and sees the girl at the front desk. Mike rings the bell and she looks at them.

"Hey, dingus! Your children are here." She called out.

"Hey Robin." Winnie says placing her bag on the counter. She digs through her bag and takes out M&Ms and hand them to her.

"Thanks Win." She tells her and opens the back to put some in her mouth.

Then from the back door of the store Steve Harrington comes out and sees the group of kids.

"Again? Seriously?" He asks them and in response Mike rings the bell again. "Come on."

Steve leads them through the door and to the back, one by one they all began to go in.

"I swear, if anybody hears about this-"

"We're dead." They all answered, hearing the same lecture over and over.

"Thanks again Steve." Winnie says and hands him a 3 Musketeers.

"Hey Dustin coming home tomorrow right?" Steve asks her, taking a bite out of the candy bar.

"Yeah, we are all gonna surprise him."

"You two need to come over here to Scoops Ahoy, I miss you two." Steve says ruffling her hair. "Go before your friends run off with out you."

She nods and runs after them and sees that Will is opening a door for her.

"Come on!"

She runs in and she enters the theatre with the rest of them, they all began to find the door to the movie and when they saw "DAY OF THE DEAD.", they all ran in quickly to find seats.

Mike went in first to one row with Will and Winnie, then Max and Lucas went into a row in front of them.

"See, Lucas? We made it." Mike says.

"We missed the previews." He whined and Max punched his arm.

"Still made it."

Winnie then began to open her bag and gave snacks to them, Winnie had chocolate pudding cups and water for herself and assorted candies and sodas for everyone else.

The movie began to start and Winnie smiled, ready to see the gore fest. She opened her pudding cup and grabbed a plastic spoon in her bag. But as the movie began to play, the screen turned black. Everyone in the theatre began to shout and groan from the power outage. After a few minutes, the light began to flicker and the film was back on. Everyone cheered in excitement as the horror film was continuing to play.

But all of sudden Winnie and Will felt something, they felt something stir in them. Like something wasn't right. It felt just like when the mind flayer had hold of them. They both looked at each other with uneasiness and felt the hairs on the back of their necks tingle.

"Hey." Mike says startling the two.

The both looked at him with uneasiness and looked at the two of them in concern.

"You guys okay?" He asked them.

"Yeah, we're fine." Winnie tells him, putting in a fake smile.

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah." Will says trying to reassure him.

Mike nods and looks back at the movie screen, Winnie looks downs for a moment but tries ignore the feeling and eats her pudding. Smiling as the zombie hands began to come out at the wall.

It was the next morning and Winnie was up and early, she was excited that her boyfriend was coming home. She was making breakfast with her mom and dancing to "footloose." on the radio. Will was sitting at the table laughing and rolling his eyes at his sister.

"Yeah, move those hips." Joyce says laughing as her daughter was flipping pancakes and dancing. "Will dance with us."

"I'd rather not." Will says.

Winnie puts the pancakes on a plate and Joyce places scrambled eggs on there as well. Winnie grabs her plate that she made herself and places her plate down and hands another plate to Will.

"Oh, I need to go grab my present from my room for Dustin!" Winnie says and gets up goes to her shared room with Will.

As she passes Jonathan's room she can hear Nancy's voice as they both found out they were late to their job.

She grabs her present for her boyfriend and comes back to the dining room and begins to eat her breakfast. She hears Jonathan's door open and hears him rushing.

"Hey! Hey! Wait up." Joyce says seeing Jonathan come in.

"Oh no, I'll eat at work." Jonathan says.

Winnie laughs and when Jonathan looks at her she mouths to him to wipe the lipstick off his cheek from Nancy. He began to feel flustered and began to rub his cheek.

"I gotta run, see you later." Jonathan shouts and he's out the door.

"Uh gross." Will says knowing that Nancy was over.

"Well, I don't think you're gonna think it's gross when you fall in love." Joyce says jokingly, bringing her plate over and eating.

"I'm not gonna fall in love." Will says.

Joyce has an unconvinced look, and when she looks over at the refrigerator she sees that everything had fallen off.

"What happened here?" She asked getting up.

"We don't know." Will says and continues to eat his breakfast. "

She picks up the magnets and when picking up the pictures, she looks at one of them sadly and puts it back on the fridge it was a drawing Will had made saying "Bob Newby Superhero."

Winnie looks at the clock and almost spit out her food and began to inhale her breakfast.

"Will we need to go! Dustin is gonna be home in 30 minutes." She said and Will gets up and goes outside to get on his bike. Winnie gets up, running to her room to grab her backpack, she comes back into the dining room and places her gift inside.

"Love you mom." Winnie says and kisses her mom on the cheek and runs out the door to Will.

Winnie was hiding with the group at Dustin's House waiting for Dustin to get home. They heard him calling on the radio but she knew she couldn't answer, if she did she would ruin the surprise. So she sat there hearing him call over and over again. She had her present for him in her hands and Lucas held a welcome home sign.

"I also got these party blowers, thought it would be fun." Max says and hand it to everyone.

They heard a car pull up and knew they were home, Winnie smiled excitedly and everyone hid. They heard Dustin come in as well as him mom. They all crouched and watched as he went into his room. Winnie looked at El and nodded to her, El closed her eyes and began to use her powers.

They group could hear Dustin's robots and toys begin to act up and make loud noises. Winnie smiled as she heard the robots come closer and closer leading Dustin into the living room. Winnie turned her head seeing Dustin passed them and went into the living room.

"Now." Winnie whispered to El.

El then opened her eyes and the robots stopped, making Dustin confused and go over to one of the robots and pick them up. They all snuck up behind Dustin as he looked at the toys, Dustin finally got up and everyone nodded to each other to surprise him.
Lucas and Winnie were in front holding the welcome home sign, and everyone else was behind them.

Max counted her fingers down and everyone had a party blower in their mouth. When Max counted down to one, everyone made a loud noise with the party blowers startling Dustin.

Dustin screamed and holding his hairspray in his hand, turned around and sprayed Lucas in the eyes. Making Lucas scream in pain and fall to the ground in agony.

"Uh.... welcome home." Winnie says as everyone watching as Lucas screamed.

Max helped Lucas up and into the kitchen to clean his eyes. Winnie looked at her boyfriend and ran over to him and engulfed him into a hug. She looked up at him and he gave her a toothless smile and he leaned down and kissed her.

"Gross." Will says in disgust, Dustin put his middle finger up and continued to kiss Winnie until they separated.

"I got a present for you." Winnie says excitedly and hand him the gift.

He looked at her excitedly and open up the small gift and looked at her with excitement.

"No way." He said.

"What is it?" Mike asked

"It's tickets to the back to the future movie. I know you wanted to see it. So I got us tickets to the first show."

"Thanks Winnie bear." He said excitedly and kissed her cheek.

"I think I'm gonna barf." Mike says hearing Dustin's nickname for her.

"Let me show you guys the neat stuff I made at camp."

He takes Winnie's hand and leads them into his room where his duffel bag. Winnie sits on the bed and Dustin grabs his first invention.

"I call it, the forever clock." Dustin explains, showing the windmill like invention. "Powered by wind, very useful in the apocalypse." He hands the invention to Will and goes back into his bag to grab another invention.

"Then I give you, the slammer." And picks up an automated hammer. He turns it on and it begins to shake. He points it toward Mike and El, making El hide behind Mike, scared of the device.

"Pretty neat, huh?" Dustin says and Winnie grabs the slammer and was intrigued with it.

"This is awesome, we can use this to build stuff!" Winnie says excitedly.

"But this is my master piece and places his duffel bag on the floor and opens the bag, everyone gathers around Dustin as he reveals parts to something. "I would like you to meet Cerebro."

Mike looked confused and looked up at Dustin.

"What exactly are we looking at here?"

"An unassembled one- of- a-kind -battery- powered radio tower." Dustin explains.

"So it's a.... ham radio?" Will asks.

"The Cadillac of ham radios. This baby carries crystal clear connection over vast distances. I'm talking North Pole to south. I wanted to go check it out, see if we can get any signals."

"Let's do it!" Winnie says excitedly and everyone else nods smiling too.

Dustin closes the duffle bag and grabs another bag he had and hands it to Will. They leave Dustin's room and Winnie grabs her bag from the kitchen counter.

"What's going on?" Max asks, wondering why everyone was leaving.

"We are gonna assemble a radio tower." Will says and follows everyone out the door. Max and Lucas looked at each other and grabbed their stuff and ran to catch up with group.

They all were walking up to the fields, going up higher and higher. Winnie was holding Dustin's free hand and looking at the area around them. Feeling the breeze and warmth from the sun.

"Aren't we high enough?" Lucas pants struggling to keep up.

"The Cerebro works best at a hundred meters." Dustin says to him.

"Besides it's nice to get at the top, then we can see the awesome view. Or we can roll down the hill and hope we don't hit an ant pile." Winnie says.

"Hey guys!" Mike says catching there attention. "This is fun and all, but-"

"I have to go home." El says.

Winnie couldn't believe they were trying to bail on them, especially when Dustin got home.

"But we're almost there." Dustin says.

"Sorry man, curfew." Mike responds and takes El's hand running down the hill.

"Good luck." El says and begins to laugh with Mike, making everyone roll their eyes.

"Curfew at 4:00." Dustin says not buying it.

"They're lying." Lucas add.

"It's been like this all summer." Winnie tells Dustin.

"It's romantic." Max says trying to defend them.

"It's bullshit." Dustin says. "I just got home. Winnie and I don't bail on you guys, we have time and places where we kiss and cuddle.

"Yes we do." Winnie says and gives him a kiss on the cheek.

"Well their loss right? Onward and upwards!" Dustin says and he continues up.

Winnie was about to follow but then she felt the same thing she did last night at the theatre. That feeling, she pressed her hand up to neck and looked weary. She shook it off and looked back at Will seeing he had the same thing. She ignored it just like last night and began to run up to catch up to Dustin.

When they finally made it to the top, everyone was tired and thirsty. Winnie was going to grab the container but when she turned her head, Lucas was drinking all of the water. As he wiped his mouth Max and Winnie gave him an annoyed expression.

"Did you seriously drink the rest of our water?" Max
Asked.

He had a little bit of water and spit it back into the container and handed it to Max. She shoved it back to him and walked away.

"Alright let's make this bad boy." Dustin says and begins to take out everything in order to make it.

Winnie went beside him and began to grab a couple of items and soon everyone joins in as well. The sun was close to setting but everyone tried to create the radio and hoping that it would work. As they assembled it together, they tried not to break anything, most importantly Lucas. When the work was finally done everyone stepped away from it and looked at it in glory.

"Pretty impressive, right?" Dustin says looking up at it.

"It's amazing." Winnie says.

"Now, does everyone want to try and find someone on the radio?" Dustin asks and all of them nodded.

It had been an hour since they tried to contact anyone on the radio. The group sat aimlessly around but were beginning to get tired of hearing Dustin the to call out to anyone.

"Is anyone there. Do you copy? Over." Dustin says for the millionth time.

"Dustin, come on! No ones there." Max says annoyed.

"Someone will pick up." He says trying to convince them.

"Maybe Cerebro doesn't work." Will suggests.

"Come on, Don Juan." Max says getting up and taking Lucas's hand.

"Where are you going?" Dustin asks them.

"Home." Max tells him and Lucas and Max begins to go down the hill.

"Well I guess it's just you, me, and Will." Dustin says to Winnie.

"Um... it's late." Will says looking at his watch. "Sorry, but maybe tomorrow we can play D&D. Or something fun. Like we used to?"

"Yeah, sure." Dustin says disappointed.

"Welcome home." Will says, he looks at Winnie and she moves her hand and he begins to go down the hill too.

"You aren't leaving me too, are you?" Dustin asks Winnie, she shakes her head and smiles, sitting down and looking at the stars.

"No way, I haven't seen you for a month. And a night under the stars. I can't think of anyone better to spend it with." She tells him.

Winnie then places her hand out and begins to grow flowers around them. Dustin smiles in relief and sits down beside her and they both lay their head in the grass.

"Welcome home, Dustin." She says turning her head to look at him.

"Thanks Winnie bear." Dustin then leans forward and she leans in too and began to kiss. She touched his cheek and was happy for him to be back, to be home. As their kissing all of sudden they hear the radio go off. They separate and go over to the radio.

"Shit." Dustin says and Winnie comes over besides him and begins to hear a voice.

"Is that Russian?" Winnie asks.

As the voice began to become clearer, they both began to hear a man speaking Russian over the radio. Dustin turns up the volume and they heard it more clearly.

"Shit Dustin grab the tape recorder!" Winnie exclaims and Dustin listens going through his bag and finds it. He comes back to the radio and begins to record the message that played over and over again.

"Winnie?"

"Yeah?"

"I think we just uncovered something." Dustin says and both looked up at the radio tower and wondering what it meant.
