The Tenth Day
Hazel and Frank weren't really a holiday couple. They didn't like going shopping, or singing, or elves on shelves, because one they were too creepy for them, and two they reminded them too much of a certain Latino elf they knew who at one time, tried to break up their relationship.
Good thing he was happy with a girlfriend now.
One thing they liked doing though, was the food part.
They liked drinking hot chocolate by the fireplace, and baking. Especially on cold snowy days at Camp Jupiter where they had a day off.
They were cuddling up to each other next to the fireplace.
"Frank."
"Huh?"
"I'm bored. Could we bake something?"
"Um, sure. It's my day off after all."
Since they were in Franks praetor house, they went into his huge kitchen.
"So, what do you want to bake?"
Hazel looked down at the ground then back up at Frank.
"Well, um, every December, around Christmas time, my mother and I used to bake with each other. Our tradition was gingerbread houses."
Frank looked down at Hazel for a minute.
"Well, let's bake that then okay? In your mothers memory."
"Thanks."
She went to the cabinet to get ingredients automatically, as if she remembered this step by step, which she did.
"Sugar, flour..."
Frank just stood there helplessly.
"Hey Frank, do me a favor and go get some candy from one of the shops or something. I'll prepare the ingredients."
Glad for something to do, he went over to Hazel and pecked her cheek.
"Be back in a flash."
Then he went out to the street leaving Hazel in the kitchen smiling to herself.
As he wandered around the streets of New Rome, Frank thought about Hazel.
"Her face looked so sad when she was thinking about her mother..."
Then he found the candy shop, (which he got free candy because of his position) and got some of all the kinds of candy they had including peppermint, gumdrops, gummy worms and so on.
Afterwards he grabbed the bag in his hand and made his way back.
But not without running into Reyna, who was at a shop drinking hot chocolate.
She looked like a normal teenager, when she wasn't wearing armor. With a Camp Jupiter long sleeved tshirt, jeans, a coat and scarf. She was happy and warm.
"Hey Frank! We need to get together and talk sometime soon. I know it's your day off, but were talking about visiting Camp Halfblood for the holidays."
"Okay I'll talk to you tomorrow about it Reyna. Thanks."
"No thank you, and what's with the bag Zhang? Do you have a big sweet tooth?"
"This is for Hazel. We were going to make a gingerbread house together."
Reyna smiled, although it was a bit nostalgic.
"Good for you too. Here take some chocolate to go."
She called a waiter who handed her two cups.
"There you go."
"Thanks again."
He headed back to his house and found Hazel with gingerbread in the oven, a cute apron on, and empty bowls of batter licking them.
"Hi Fwank. Do yer what soe butter?"
"No you seem happy, so I'll let you eat all of it."
She swallowed.
"Alright. I put the gingerbread in the oven. I also made some frosting to help put it together and for decorating."
"Okay. I got the candy. Also, I have more hot chocolate because Reyna gave me some."
"Ooh."
Hazel grabbed the cup in her hands and started gulping it down.
But suddenly she spit it all out.
"Hot!"
Frank laughed. "Yeah, it just got made a few minutes ago."
Hazel sipped from the cup more carefully.
Frank drank his too.
Then the oven dinged.
Hazel grabbed some oven mittens and grabbed the pan.
"Alright. I'm going to let it cool down before we make the house. Okay?"
"Okay."
Hazel got bowls, cookie cutters, knives, and a big tray out.
"Okay, so put the candy in the bowls."
They started emptying out the candy into the bowls.
Then the timer dinged, and they went to the table with the stuff.
But now before Frank tripped being the clumsy person he is and fell on his face while carrying the gingerbread. Hazel naturally saved the food, not poor Frank.
"You okay."
"Kinda."
"Here let me get some ice."
She went to the fridge and got out and ice cube.
"I'm fine. It's not that bad."
"Okay."
Then they started making it, cutting the gingerbread, putting it together, then came the most fun part: decorating.
They decorated it together. Hazel put perfectly lined peppermints on the side, while Frank arranged the sidewalk, carefully and failing to arrange it.
When they finished it, they stood back to admire their work.
A one story house made of gingerbread, with a peppermint roof, a gumdrop sidewalk, and Mn'ms windows.
There were also two people up front, waving.
"Ready to eat?"
"Sure."
But before they ate, Hazel went up on her tippy toes and planted a kiss on Franks cheek.
"Thank you."
AN Yep I'm alive and I'm sorry guys for not updating. And being a bit lazy at the beginning of the story. So yep.
Yours in demigodishness, and all that. Peace out.
