March 2016

3AM JUNE 11 (TOKYO); 10AM, JUNE 10 (CALIFORNIA)

'Facetime me. When you wake up.'

Those had been the only two words on the text from Iwaizumi. Usually, he was polite, but not today. Yuki wasn't even supposed to be up right now, but there were two assignments due by noon and she was done with one of them while the other was half-finished. So, of course, she'd be awake.

A facetime call with Iwaizumi would be a welcome break.

She closed her notebook and pulled out her phone, turning on the lamp on her desk so that there could be better lighting. Then she quickly sent a text to Iwaizumi and waited with bated breath for his facetime call. A few seconds passed. Yuki mindlessly grabbed a pencil and started tapping it against her desk. The familiar notification popped up.

Yuki instantly pressed accept; the screen went black for a second before Iwaizumi's face appeared. And he looked quite grumpy.

"Uh...hi? Is everything okay?"

"Hmm," Iwaizumi mumbled. She noticed that he was seated on his study desk; in the background, she could see his bed, all made up. Classic Iwaizumi. Never leaving a mess. "You know...you're an idiot."

"Hey!" Yuki instantly pouted. "You don't have to be so mean. I'm not an idiot. And I didn't do anything stupid either."

"You didn't have to send over this whole gift box for my birthday, but you did. So you're an idiot."

He shifted his camera, pointing to the delicately wrapped, unopened gift Yuki had prepared weeks ago. 'Oh bless, it reached in time for his birthday.'

"I don't think giving a gift to a friend makes me an idiot," Yuki spoke with a slightly haughty tone. "And why haven't you opened it up yet? You know I put in a lot of effort..."

"Exactly," Iwaizumi tapped the box. "You didn't have to put in this much effort for me. And then send it all the way here. How-"

"Don't you even ask about the cost. You're not supposed to know that." Yuki said defensively. "I do it for all my friends. And don't say I shouldn't do this. I did it because I want to. So there. And if we weren't friends, I'd still get you a gift, though that would be a gag gift, but whatever. So you better accept it."

"You won't relent, will you?"

"No. I'm stubborn that ways."

Yuki smiled brightly, giving him an awkward thumbs up. "Aren't you gonna open it?"

"You want me to open it front of you?" Iwaizumi asked, with raised eyebrows.

"Yeah," She answered, in a bright tone. "It'll give my ego a boost to see your reactions. Because I'm pretty sure you'll like it."

"You're different than I thought," Iwaizumi shook his head, but there was a hint of a smile on his face.

"I hope you mean that in a good way."

"I guess I do."

Iwaizumi sighed. He was used to dealing with stubborn people but Yuki...well, Yuki was a different kind; the type to smile and sweet talk you into doing things. Or accepting gifts in this case.

"Give me a second," He told her, quietly, so as to not raise any noise. "I'll need to set up my phone somewhere." He shifted things around on his desk, hoping Yuki wouldn't see the mess it was. After a few moments, he finally managed to prop up his phone on a pen stand, hoping that it wouldn't fall over.

"The view is fine," Yuki spoke before he could even say a damn thing. There was a slight edge to her voice; almost as if she was a little worried. "But will you open the gift please?"

Iwaizumi smiled to himself, as he opened a drawer on his desk and pulled out a pair of scissors. Very lightly, he tore through the package, not wanting to damage anything inside. Internally, he was panicking. Yuki gave him a gift? Him? She didn't have to give him anything and yet she had gone through all the effort. He swore he fell for her a little bit more right then.

Once he had torn through the tape, he opened the box. The box wasn't a big one but it wasn't small either. Right at the top was a square envelope, that had 'Happy Birthday, Iwaizumi-san' written in a very neat, and frankly beautiful writing. That must be a card, he thought. He took out the envelope and kept it aside; he would go through it later. Beneath the card was what looked like to be a t-shirt. He took that out and opened it gently.

Of all the things...a Godzilla t-shirt? Even Yuki knew about this little fascination of his? It would feel humiliating but right now, he just felt elated. Beneath the t-shirt was an old poster, a vintage one for an old Godzilla film; and there was a small badge too, with a cartoonish version of his favorite monstrous creature.

This was great. This was really great. And Iwaizumi really wanted to give Yuki a massive hug. Just how nice could she be? She was too sweet.

"So? Did you like the gift?" There was still a nervous edge to her voice. "Also for the t-shirt, I had to guess what size it would be from the notes I had from back in school. It might be a tad bit loose, so you'll have to let me know when you wear it. Also the card is a silly little thing so you can-"

"Yuki."

"Hmm?"

"I love it. It's great," Iwaizumi said, gruffly, hoping that his face hadn't turned red. "Thanks for doing this. I'm honored."

"That's great," Yuki smiled, doing an awkward thumbs up. "I'm so glad you liked it. And like when we meet properly, you should totally wear the t-shirt. Not that you have to, but it would be nice to see a gift being used."

Iwaizumi smiled at her. Every single time...she just got cuter and cuter. No wonder this crush wasn't fading away. "Right."

"So I will leave you to it. Have fun and enjoy yourself and party a lot. Maybe not a lot, but yeah. Just enjoy yourself."

"Yeah, okay. See you soon."

"You too, Iwaizumi-san. You too."

Happy Birthday, Iwaizumi-san!

Hello! I hope you're doing well! You are a really nice person and I'm so so glad that we can call each other friends. I'm terrible with words; you know I'm a rambler, so I will keep this message really short otherwise we'd need at least two more pages for this card. I'm so glad I accidentally messaged you back then. Look where it goes. And you know that one line? This is the start of a new friendship? Those texts were the start of ours.

I really enjoy talking to you and I hope we get to meet soon!

With lots of hugs,

Yuki

P.S. Don't think you'll be spared from being teased about still being obsessed with Godzilla😉😉
