5. Savitar is BS

First of all, I'm sorry this took so long to get out. I was busy with my life outside of wattpad and then wattpad decided to be a huge jerk but...finally got it up! So, let's just jump into it without the fancy intro or whatever...

Something that's always bothered me about Flash is that thing in season three where they battle Savitar. I mean, don't get me wrong, I actually really liked Savitar as a villain, even if a lot of things in the plot didn't make sense.

He was the perfect amount of angst and anger that I think make pretty awesome villains. He had a motive (even if I didn't really understand the logic behind it.) And he had a somewhat tragic backstory, being cast out by the people he thought cared about him. I also actually liked the fact that he was an evil Barry because...I'm a sucker for cliches sorry.

But the problem is this specific battle. I can't remember what episode it was, but it was when Killer Frost teamed up with him and Team Flash was just figuring things out.

In the battle, Killer Frost was saying a bunch of oddly specific things and saying everything Team Flash was saying at the same time they did. She and Savitar defeated TF with ease. And Cisco at some point says something along the lines of, "That was too precise. It was like he'd lived through it before."

This is where I call bullshit. If you know anything about psychology, even just the basics, you'll know that this is vertically impossible, unless you have a photographic memory. (Which I seriously doubt Barry Allen has) Memory simply does not work this way.

Think about the last thing someone said to you. Particularly if it was a long-winded, multiple word sentence. Your mom giving you a long list of chores to do, your classmates telling you the latest gossip. Can you remember word for word what they said? I'm guessing probably not.

The brain can only hold so much information at one time. We quickly forget the little details no matter how hard we try to remember them. Only the basic information with be stored in our long-term memories. And even so, they can be manipulated fairly easily due to things such as false memory and the Mandela Effect.

For those of you who don't know what those phrases mean, allow me to break it down for you.

False memory is just like it sounds. A false memory, implanted in your brain via suggestion and confusion. Here are the google definition and an example of an experiment in 1974 to further clear things up.

Now for the Mandela Effect. This one's fun...

Some people believe this might even be evidence of our own little multiverse, but for now, we'll just stick to the psychology bit.

As you can see here, the effect revolves around Nelson Mandela and his "I'm wanted dead or alive" bit. Everyone thought he was dead in the 1980s, even though he wasn't. From then on people began noticing even more weird memory things. Some examples are:

And of course there are a shit ton more examples and I could go on and on forever, but for the sake of keeping your interest, we'll stop there.

The human memory is a very unreliable thing. It's one of the many reasons that police need a crap ton of evidence to back up their cases, instead of just relying on the witness's memories alone.

So, now that I've - hopefully - educated you a little bit about memory (it's really just the tip of the iceberg) you can see why this whole battle with Savitar isn't very realistic or believable. There is absolutely no way that Savitar could remember those events so clearly. Not with so many things that could affect the brain/memory. Not when it's been so long for him.

Sure, it might make a badass fight scene and easy way for our heroes to figure out just who their baddie really is....but it's also a very large bowl of bullshit.
