Chiaki's PoV
My arm was starting to loose circulation since she was leaning on it. I didn't want to wake her up, so I put an arm around her shoulders to balance the weight out.
Because of her strange...mind, she's acknowledged what I was trying to forget and avoid right from the start. Fortunately, she isn't a nosy type of person, therefore everyone's secrets were locked safe in her head. I wonder how much she actually knows.
Every time, she just stood there without any sort of expression in general. She always claims she knows, but never told me how much she does.
Sometimes, I even wonder why. Well who wouldn't? You don't meet people who have automatic minds giving them information and backgrounds of any person who they narrow their eyes at and can even mind-read every day.
When the taxi came to a short pause to a red signal. I just then realized we were heading the way to my house, she has never told me her address.
Well, screw that then. I have an extra room in the house.
Shiina's PoV [if u forgot who she was she's the cast of Katie :3]
I sensed it. Sachiko Sakura, she must be the one sensei talked about.
I'm not sure where I am right now, but I'm pretty sure it's somewhere in the far future, there are these coloured large metal beasts roaming around the wide, dark grey paths. [if u dunno wat it means its cars on roads xP]
I settled in my little domain that I put up under a large bridge that seem to cross a huge mass of water.
The one whose fate was brutally controlled by demons.
Sensei had said. He was an amazing foreseer, he even saw something as far as this.
She has helped me with clothing and directions even though I'm a complete stranger. My eyebrows furrowed. I feel like wanting to return the favour as well... even though sensei warned me not to cross paths with demons.
Speaking of which, Sakura-san sure lives in a huge house. It was like it was made for eight people or something. There were a lot of doors at the second floor.
She probably has a huge family.
Sachiko's PoV
[Three Days]
When consciousness drifts to me the next morning, I immediately sensed something was not in place. To that, my eyelids instantly flew open. Fighting the sudden pour of sunshine that my pupils haven't adjusted to yet, I sat up and observed the room I was in.
It seemed normal and domestic. Obviously a guest room.
I look down and see that I'm in my tank top and shorts that I was wearing under my dress yesterday. And that cute dress was folded neatly and sat on the bedside table.
I flipped through my purse, which was actually right there. It was untouched. I clicked open my phone and see that it was early 6:50 am. Despite having much to drink, I certainly woke up early.
Wait, whose house am I even in?!
And oh gosh the demons are gonna kill me! Well they kind of already will be but still. I'm sure I'm never gonna hear the end of this from Kakeru.
I quickly managed to put on that dress and fix my hair a little from its messy state.
I opened the door and went downstairs
Only to be greeted with Chiaki sitting at the dining table enjoying a mug of coffee with damp hair.
"C-Chiaki...." To my sheepish greeting, he looked up and put on his famous lady-killer smile.
"Oh Saki you've woken up? Good morning."
"Good morning...and thanks." I let out a small sigh before taking a seat across from him.
"So...this is your house?" I ask somewhat nervously as I took in the homey feeling place. It was pretty big considering he was living alone.
"Yup, why don't you stay for breakfast?" He ask mildly as he stood up.
"E-Eh? I-I actually really should be going...I need to change out of this and work starts at 8:30 I don't th--"
"Pfft." I heard a light scoff and my attention went to him as I quickly stopped speaking. Dammit he's teasing me again.
"Chiaki!" seeing his evil snicker, it made me more relaxed.
"Sorry, sorry. It's just funny seeing you getting all nervous and stammer." He chuckled one last time before saying, "seriously though, stay for breakfast?"
"Sure." I nod with a smile while I follow him into the kitchen.
"And by the way work starts at 10:40 today, apparently you forgot." He added as he opened the fridge door.
I mentally hit myself since I really did. The alcohol messed with my mind after all.
"Thank you for the food." I said before taking a scoop of the pasta in front of me. I'm pretty sure my eyes exploded in stars when I ate it.
"This tastes amazing!" I couldn't help but exclaim as I took another spoonful and brought it to my mouth.
"Glad you like it."
"Wow Chiaki, I didn't expect you to be such a great cook." I cleaned the plate in no time, that was the first time I've looked up. His smile actually looked genuine this time and he was staring right at me. I glanced at his plate, he finished as well.
We washed the dishes together, though there are only two. He washed them and I dried and put them back in the cup boards. It was when after we've finished that it struck me that we probably just looked up newly-weds.
Why else would you be cleaning dishes with a guy?
"See you at work!" I waved my final goodbye before leaving the house. It looks really nice from the outside too. I caught on an early train and got back to the demon house by nine.
"Sakura!" Kakeru's voice boomed through the house as soon as I stepped in.
Yikes, not even a greeting? I thought briefly before bowing a little: "I'm sorry!"
"At least leave us a message or something, I thought you-"
"-Were in trouble!" Meguru forcefully cut into Kakeru's sentence. Although I know perfectly well that Kakeru was about to say 'escaped', I still bowed.
"Sorry for making you worry."
It was dead silent for two seconds. They were waiting for an explanation, I know it. But by acting a hesitant and a bit bashful about it...
I twirled a lock of my ginger hair with my index finger while I rocked on my heels and averted my gaze. I forced a light pink blush on my cheeks. I'm sure he noticed it.
"...Fine. I'll let it pass this time since you only have three days, it's in some ways understandable. But don't do it again!" he concluded before heading out the door.
Everyone scattered away out to work. I felt a smirk grow on my face when I was alone in the living room. Well that suspicion was laid off easily. Just by making him thought I stayed over at a man's house.
"Hey...Sachiko?" I heard a voice from behind me and I wiped my expression into a blank one when I turned to face Meguru.
"Actually...there's this place that I know of. It's a bit far from here but it's totally worth it." What's he trying to say? "So I was wondering, that after your work. Could you come with me? I want to show you that place."
I'm a little confused, but agreed on impulse, "sure."
His grin broadened, he looked just a like a boy who got a new Christmas gift, "great! So I'll see you after your work!"
I grinned and nodded back. Then quickly rushed up to my room to change.
~~
"Ohayo~" I sang when I stepped into the office.
"Huh...I'm kinda surprised that you seem totally fine." Akiyoshi says. It was barely 10:20 am, he was still a normal guy before work starts.
"All I remember was Saki chucking down bottles of wine." Shusei commented from his desk, where he was organizing his notes for the last interview of his issue.
I felt a bit embarrassed at that. Sure I was kinda having an emotional lump there.
"And Chiaki sent you straight home, right?" Akiyoshi added, with a tiniest hint of doubt in his tone.
My eyes flickered to Chiaki's, he was also looking at me, with a blank face. I couldn't read what he was thinking.
"Of course." The lie rolled out naturally, "thank you for that. I couldn't have managed on my own." Then I let out a single sheepish chuckle, adding to the act.
"Not a problem at all." He responds with an equally natural expression.
Dayum we could be Oscar-winning actors.
"Good to hear." I faintly hear Akiyoshi let out a small sigh in relief while he turned away.
'I would've killed Chiaki if he actually did something do her.' My eyes widened a fraction when I heard his thought loud and clear. That couldn't be. Even if I managed to hear it, they were always faint.
"Oh really?" I teased instead of showing my inner worry. Everyone else was confused but Akiyoshi immediately started walking away.
"Akiyoshi? What the hell did you just think?" Minato asks, only to be ignored.
So then all curious eyes turned to me.
'Did chief just think something dirty???' Shusei's thought was also loud and clear but I'm sure he didn't meant for me to hear that. I looked at him and shook my head.
"Guys...It's ten forty." Kaoru's quiet voice in the background alarmed everyone that it was work time. They reluctantly let go of the current topic and went back to work.
We exchanged small smiles. Thank you Kaoru. I thought even though I knew he wouldn't be able to hear.
I'm glad this will be my last article on Eimko Harumi, since I won't be living for another three days. It'll be just enough time to finish my issue and be in time to see the newly published Seasonelle this month.
The timing was perfect.
Mi was completely silent the entire time. She was acting so gloomy. But why?
"What's the matter?" I focus all my attention on her, attempting to read her.
She shook her head. 'They didn't invite me....'
"You mean the drinking party yesterday?" I ask out loud. Her eyes flew up and met mine.
'Am I that obvious..?'
"No it's not you...it's me." I respond out loud again, her eyes widen, as if already guessing what I mean.
'You can read minds? Literally?'
"Sometimes."
It was quiet for some time until she asked: "are you...human?"
That struck me quite hard. I've never thought that these weird traits of mine could result in me not being a human. Or it's in one of those fiction crime drama where people are tested on with drugs or stuff that makes them have extraordinary powers. Like that movie about a dog.
"I...have no idea." Was my lame but honest response.
"Have you ever thought of testing that?"
"Eh? How does one figure that out?"
"For example, demons and angels will heal very soon after being wounded physically. A lot sooner than humans do. What about you?"
"I think I'm rather normal...." I trailed off. I couldn't bare the thought of not being human. How come I've never thought of that? Humans don't have these kind of power. Except that if I was kidnapped as a child, memory was wiped each day and was always a test subject on—
"OW!" I felt burning pain on my left arm and realize that Mi just sliced me with her scythe, which is nowhere to be seen now. Her face was blank as she stared at my wound.
"What the hell, Mi?!"
Her expression didn't change. I look down to inspect the large cut that was probably more than five inches long. It wasn't bleeding.
"Hmm it isn't bleeding, but it's still there." She mumbled just as we arrive at the studio.
"Um...what happened to your arm...?" Tsubasa asked with a deadpan face right after I greeted him.
I threw Mi a glare that she remained blank-faced at.
While Mi went to take pictures of Eimko posing, Dani was instructing at the side.
I hesitated a little, wondering whether if I should ask him that question or not. Has it ever occurred to you that I may not be human? I wanted to ask. But something was stopping me.
Don't! Whatever it is shouted in my mind.
Tsubasa was like a best friend to me, I can't lie to him.
Just when I made up my mind and opened my mouth, a sharp yell was sent across the room.
My attention immediately flew to Eimko, who just shrieked. Mi was glaring at her with all her might. Oh god...I let my eyes off of them for two minutes..!
Demons power are proven to be stronger than an angel's. It is totally possible for a demon to hurt one, even though rules are against it.
'You did NOT just use your stupid sword on me!' Eimko's thoughts were raging, but she put on a perfectly bright smile: "Gomen, mina. I just saw a spider somewhere."
By what she thought, I presume Mi cut her with her scythe. Though the movements were so fast Dani didn't catch sight of it.
"Why?" I whisper shouted at both of them out of everyone else's ear shot.
"What's the matter? You're gonna heal in a few days, anyway." Mi says, avoiding eye contact. Just then I saw the long wound on the inside of Eimko's arm. If she weren't holding a towel against it, the blood might've even dripped onto the floor.
How come she's bleeding so much?
I glanced down at my own arm where Mi just sliced as well ten minutes ago.
The cut vanished.
