TWENTY NINE
CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE:
EVIE
ARCHIE, JUGHEAD, AND GINNY were lounging in Archie's room when Mr. Andrews knocked on the bedroom door. Ginny still felt uncomfortable around Fred Andrews because he acted like her parental figure. In all honesty, she was glad Fred treated her like a daughter. But that made her feel bad about her decisions in life.
"I'm, uh I'm headed out. Sorry to be missing your birthday this weekend, Jug." Archie's dad said, looking at the birthday boy with a disappointed look on his face. He felt responsible for his son's friend, especially with FP Jones as a Southside Serpent, he felt like he needed to be the father Jughead needed. Ginny also needed a parental figure in her life with the absence of both parents. The sad part was, even though Fred would take Jughead and Ginny in instantly, he didn't have enough money to support them.
"Oh, you will not be missing anything, Mr. Andrews, I barely acknowledge my own birthday." Jughead replied, glancing up at the grown up in the doorway.
"Arch, can you give me a hand downstairs?" Archie's dad asked, motioning him to follow behind. Archie complied, standing up and followed his father, leaving Ginny and Jughead alone.
"Jug," Ginny pouted and Jughead glanced towards his best friend. His pale hands dropped the remote from his fingers so he could give his undivided attention to her.
"What?" He asked with a shy smile, getting up from his position on the ground to sit on the bed with her. Ginny was sprawled out on the bed, her legs covered in black leggings were hanging off the end of the bed and the crop top she wore showed off her tight figure.
"I feel bad but–" Ginny bit her lip but sat up from her position and looked at Jughead. "I might be working on your birthday."
"That's okay, Gin." Jughead replied quickly, understanding why she was getting upset. Ginny loved his birthday, especially since he was only a few weeks older than her. "It's just the movies, nothing special."
"But we always do this and I feel bad to miss out on your birthday." Ginny whined, flailing her bony arms in the air in defeat. She bit her lip as she leaned towards the dark haired boy, wrapping her arms around his neck. Ginny giggled as Jughead teasingly pulled himself from her grasp.
"Ginny," Jughead warned, pointing his finger towards her in mock anger. "Whatever you're thinking– don't."
"At least come to Pop's after the movie?" Ginny asked him wistfully, a look of adoration was sent her way. "I get off at 7 and I want to spend your birthday with you."
Jughead ducked his head down so Ginny wouldn't see the blush that was on his cheeks. He loved his best friend so much— she did so much for him, he hoped he could make her birthday just as great as she would make his.
"That would be the best present ever."

IT WAS THE DAY BEFORE Jughead's birthday and Ginny was late to school. She knew her friends had met up in the student lounge to talk, and honestly, she was okay she missed it. With all the drama going on her own life, she didn't want to be sucked into Veronica Lodge's daddy issues.
She quickly walked through the hallways, noticing Archie and Betty a few feet in front of her. Ginny almost called out to them before she heard their conversation at hand.
"Hey, you may or may not know this, but it's Jughead's birthday." Archie told the blonde beside him, his fingers wrapped around the handles of his backpack as he tried to make conversation with his friend.
"What? And he didn't say anything?"
"It's tomorrow, and he doesn't like making a big deal out of it. Every year, he goes to a double feature at the Bijou. It's like this tradition. Last few years, I've been his movie-buddy. But now that he has a girlfriend–" Archie rambled to Betty. He hadn't really had a bro moment with Jughead to ask about Ginny but Jughead and Betty seemed like they were together.
"Well, of course, I'll take him. But you should still come with us." Betty replied quickly with a smile and Ginny frowned as Betty took it upon herself to take her best friend to the movies. Sure, Ginny might be working but it didn't give Betty the right to shove her away.
"No. I don't wanna be a third wheel." Archie defended himself, smiling at Betty.
"Come on. It'll be like old times." Betty cooed and Ginny wanted to roll her eyes. Yeah, before she was a backstabbing bitch.
"The Three Musketeers." Archie told her wistfully, grin sent her way.
"Actually, Archie, there were four Musketeers. You could bring Ginny!" Ginny was flustered, hoping neither would turn around and see her— that would've been awkward.
Archie laughed awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck. "I'll see you later, Betty."
Ginny stopped walking and located her locker nearby, a frown on her face. Why didn't Archie agree to going to the movies all together? Was it because they kissed and he didn't want to? Or is it because he knew that Ginny and Jughead kissed and felt awkward around Betty?
"Hey."
Ginny spazzed, turning around in shock to see Evie standing beside her, smirk in place. "God, Evie," Ginny breathed out. "You scared me to death."
"No I didn't," Evie teased. "What's got you thinking so hard at 8 in the morning?"
Ginny sighed in defeat as she leaned against the cool metal locker. "Jughead."
"Obviously." Evie told her sarcastically with a roll of her dark brown eyes. Her eyes focused on her friend, she knew that something was up besides Jughead– something happened.
"It was a one time thing..." Ginny blushed at her friend, trying to make an excuse.
"Wait what?" Evie squealed, grabbing onto Ginny's shoulders. "What do you mean an one time thing?"
"W-We kinda kissed," Ginny blushed as she opened her locker. She tried distracting herself from her friend and her thoughts. She thought back to their kiss and felt her cheeks heat up as she recalled his lips on hers.
"And?"
"And nothing, Evie." Ginny sighed, biting her lip nervously. "He's kinda with Betty Cooper."
"What are you talking about? Doesn't she know of your crush?" Evie asked with a frown, folding her arms across her chest.
"Yeah, she did." Ginny told her bitterly, slamming her locker door shut. "It's payback for when Archie had a crush on me, I think."
"That's stupid."
"It is. She could have as much Archie Andrews as she wants, all I want is Jughead."
