CHAPTER FOUR:

DRAMAAA

IT WAS AFTER SCHOOL WHEN Jughead had pulled Ginny aside and asked her to coMe with him to Archie's.

"What are you doing?" Virginia asked her friend as he pushed past her to enter the yard of Archie Andrews. "Why are we at Archie's?"

"We're waiting," Jughead told her shortly, frown in place. "I need to confront him for doing something really stupid."

Virginia laughed nervously, sitting down besides Jug, "do you mean stupid like what happened in the spring?" She thought back to the crush Archie had on her, how overprotective Jughead was of her, and how things had happened that couldn't be taken back. Jughead had confronted Archie on his crush and things were said that were never forgotten.

"No, worse than that."

Virginia looked up to see Archie enter his yard before his eyes landed on the duo in front of him. Archie sighed, noticing how Jughead wasn't happy. "Jug. What's up?"

"What's up is I saw you, Archie. In the music room. With Ms. Grundy." Virginia's eyes widened, not understanding what was happening. Jughead stood up, approching his old friend and Virginia tailed behind.

"Keep your voice down, my dad's inside." Archie hissed.

"I'm trying to help you, dude. I'm trying to be your friend here. Even though we're not anymore. How long? You and Grundy?"

"Since the summer. I like her." Archie hesitated in his reply but he knew he couldn't lie to his old  friends.

Jughead scoffed, "So I'm guessing she's the reason you've been acting weird since summer?"

"One of them." Archie shrugged his shoulders, pushing his hands into the pockets of his jacket.

"One of them?" Jughead asked his brow raised in question. "There's more?"

"We were at Sweetwater River on July 4th. We heard a gunshot. The gunshot."

"Holy shit," Virginia said as the story Archie was telling them was being processed. "Arch–"

"Dude, you have to tell somebody." Jughead continued for her, his eyes wide in shock.

"I can't. Neither can you." "If people find out about Grundy—"

"A kid is dead, Archie! And you're worried about some–some cougar?" Jughead exclaimed loudly, shocked that his old friend would keep this from the police.

"Don't call her that. Okay, she's not like that, she cares about me."

"Stab in the dark. I'm guessing she cares more about herself. She's the one who's telling you not to say anything, right? Look, I saw you guys. She's messing with you, man. And she's messing with your mind."

"Arch," Virginia whispered, stepping closer to her old friend, trying to get across her message. "It's illegal– she took advantage of you–"

"What the hell do you know about it, Jughead? Virginia? Or about me, even?"

"Nothing. But I used to know this guy once. Archie Andrews. He wasn't perfect but (SIGHS) He always tried to do the right thing, at least."

"Jughead." Archie sighed, "If either of you tell anyone about this..."

"What? What are you gonna do?" Jughead stood in front of Virginia, blocking Archie's glare towards her. Their glares were diverted when the front door opened to reveal Mr. Andrews.

"Hey, Jug. Wow, Ginny haven't seen you in awhile. Coming in? We got take-out from Pop's."

"They were just leaving."

"That was interesting," Virginia commented lightly as the pair of teens walked down the streets way from Archie's home.

"It was," Jughead frowned. "I can't believe Archie, can you? He has information about the gunshot and is doing nothing about it!" For the rest of the walk, jughead complained about how much Archie had changed, until they stood before Virginia's home.

"Do you wanna come in?" Virginia asked shyly. It had been months since Jughead came over. Mostly because her mom had been a tough subject between the two.

"Sure, got any ice cream?"

The house was dark and Virginia moved in the blackness with ease before a light turned on. She reached towards the freezer, pulling out a carton of rocky road ice cream.

"My favourite!" Jug exclaimed with a smile, pulling two spoons out of a drawer.

"Always," she said as she shut the freezer door with her hip. It was true, on the warm summer nights Jughead, Archie, and Virginia would stay up late outside with a carton of rocky road as they watched the stars.

It was habitual of Jughead to make himself at home with Ginny, helping her around the kitchen as she placed the ice cream onto the counter. With a grin, both jumped on top of the counter, letting their legs dangle as they held onto their spoons. Dipping the spoons into the ice cream, they both took turns passing the ice cream and eating.

"Do you think Archie loves her?" Virginia asked suddenly as she passed the carton back to Jughead, letting the cold ice cream melt onto her tongue. She turned her head to see Jug frown as he dug his spoon deep into the marshmallow part of the carton.

"No," Jughead scoffed. "I think it's puppy love."

"He's confused," Ginny added. "I think she's leading him on."

"Yeah, an old lady who wants sex isn't looking for love." Virginia punched Jug but thought of what he said, what if she was lonely? Why did she chose Archie? "I know that I'm no expert on love, Gin, but Archie isn't thinking clearly."

Virginia nodded and gasped as Jughead passed her the carton back, empty. "Jug! You just finished the ice cream!"

Jughead smiled cheekily at her, spoon in hand as he waved it in the air, his tongue poking out of his mouth to swipe the leftover ice cream from his lips. Virginia's face grew pink as her eyes fell to watch him wet his lips before she wrenched her eyes away to glare at the empty ice cream carton. "Gotta pay attention more, Hopkins."

"Fuck off," Virginia wailed throwing her spoon at him, glaring as the spoon missed him and clanged to the floor. "This is a second time you ate all of my dessert!"
