You Got Me
━━━━━━━━
NEVER DID SHE EXPECT TO BE BACK in the small town called Mystic Falls. Klaus had been snapping Stefan's neck all day in his anger, trying to find out what he was hiding. The truth was that Elena was still alive and well back in Virgina. So they set out for Mystic Falls.
Klaus had driven to the high school and snapped Stefan's neck one more time before leaving Rebekah and Athena to wait for him to wake up. Athena was angry that the doppelganger continued to live after what she did. Not to mention Klaus was still pissed that Elena was willing to kill his sister at a moment notice.
Athena sat at the edge of the truck opening, swinging her legs back and forth while she hummed the lullaby Esther used to sing to her and Rebekah. The said sister stood next to her as they waited for Stefan to stir.
The younger Salvatore woke up and groaned, sitting up once he saw the two Mikaelson sisters.
"Oh, he lives," Rebekah greeted, earning a smile from Athena who looked over at Stefan.
"What happened?" he asked, looking around confusedly.
"You took a bad beating. Nik's been breaking your neck all afternoon," Athena told him.
"Why did he bring us back to Mystic Falls?"
Rebekah sighed, looking bored. "You can stop playing dumb now. It didn't take him long to figure out what you've been hiding."
Stefan tried to play innocent and stood up slowly. "I'm not hiding anything. I've done everything Klaus has asked me to."
Athena couldn't help but narrow her eyes at him. "Yeah right, you just failed to tell us that Elena is still breathing."
She was mad, maybe just as mad as Klaus. The feeling she got about Elena was strong. A strong feeling that told her Elena would never stop until she hurt Athena's family. And the young girl wasn't going to let her.
"Where is Klaus now?" Stefan asked.
Rebekah was just as angry, though she concealed it. Klaus had told her about Elena and the blonde knew that Elena would hurt her sister, she wasn't going to let that happen either.
"With any luck, ripping that cow's bloody head off," she replied.
It took a moment but Stefan turned and flashed at her, throwing them both out of the truck and onto the ground. Athena glared and ripped Stefan off, pushing him away from Rebekah.
"Where is she?" he growled at them.
"You really do love her, don't you?" Rebekah taunted, getting up and pushing Stefan against the truck. She punched him and grabbed a crowbar. "Consider me jealous."
And then she drove it through his stomach. Athena winced even though she was angry. Rebekah turned around and grabbed her sister's hand, leading them into the school.
They walked through the halls and then Athena heard a familiar voice of a certain blonde. Rebekah didn't notice her sister's smile and they went over to Caroline who was with Tyler.
"You two are adorable," Rebekah commented.
Caroline and Tyler turned to them and Caroline's eyes lit up with a smile.
"Athena!"
Athena smiled and went to hug Caroline when Rebekah held her back. Caroline looked concerned for Athena and stepped forward.
"Do we know you?" she asked.
"You're Caroline, Elena's friend, which makes you Tyler. The werewolf," Rebekah concluded, glaring at Caroline.
She had heard about the blonde and was not happy to hear the fact that she and her baby sister were friends. Rebekah was now even more jealous. Caroline noticed her jealous look and stepped between Tyler and Rebekah.
"And who are you?" Caroline questioned with a glare.
"I'm the new girl," Rebekah replied.
She vamped out and Athena felt the need to protect her pack. The young girl flashed in front of Rebekah and vamped out, her violet eyes shining.
"Athena!" Tyler and Caroline exclaimed with worry.
Athena hissed at Rebekah, making her sister's eyes widen in shock.
"Leave her alone Rebekah!"
Rebekah only became even more jealous and flashed around Athena and snapped Caroline's neck, grabbing Tyler's arm.
Athena growled at her and went over to Caroline only for Rebekah to grabbed her, dragging her down the hall. They reached the Gym and Klaus, Elena, Bonnie, and Matt turned to them.
The younger hybrid tried to pull her arm out of Rebekah's grip but the older sister was angry. Klaus raised an eyebrow at Rebekah.
"Rebekah do let go of our sister before you dislocate her arm."
Rebekah let go and Athena let out a breath, giving her a look. The blonde threw Tyer into Klaus's arms and Elena shouted, "Leave him alone!"
Athena couldn't help but roll her eyes at Elena's pathetic pleading. The doppelganger was really getting on her nerves already.
"Athena was helping one of Elena's friends Nik," Rebekah told him.
"Caroline is my friend too, Rebekah. She's a part of my pack!" Athena argued.
Rebekah spun to her. "What is Elena part of your pack too?"
"No! She doesn't care about me at all. She can die for all I care!"
Elena glared and Klaus smirked. Rebekah looked thoughtful and then nodded, a smile growing on her face. Klaus grabbed a struggling Tyler and everyone turned to him.
"Now that we've settled that situation, I'm going to make this very simple. Every time I attempt to turn a werewolf into a vampire hybrid, they die during the transition. It's quite horrible, actually," he said. He bit his wrist and made Tyler drink his blood. Klaus looked at Bonnie. "I need you to find a way to save my hybrids, Bonnie. And for Tyler's sake...You better hurry."
And with that he snapped Tyler's neck, killing him instantly. Elena, Matt, and Bonnie stood shocked and Klaus smiled.
Rebekah held Athena to her chest as Matt ran over to Tyler's body.
"He killed him," Matt said.
Elena walked over. "He's not dead. Klaus's blood will turn him into a vampire."
"And if Bonnie's successful, he'll live through his transition. Go on, then. Go and fetch your grimoires and enchantments and what-not. I'll hold on to Elena...for safe-keeping," Klaus spoke up, going over to Elena. He grabbed her arm and Elena nodded to Bonnie and Matt.
The two left and Rebekah looked over at Elena, stilling standing next to her little sister.
"So this is the latest doppelgänger. The original one was much prettier," Rebekah taunted.
Klaus rolled his eyes. "Enough, Rebekah. Take the wolf boy elsewhere, would you?"
The younger sibling simply glared at him and dragged Tyler on the floor by his arm and left. Athena looked at Klaus and he motioned his head for her to follow Rebekah. She nodded at him and then turned, following Rebekah.
---
Tyler laid on the floor, still dead while Caroline laid on the floor, still unconscious. Athena sat on the floor across from them while Rebekah sat across from her on the other side of the hallway.
"Is she really a part of your pack?" Rebekah asked. Athena looked at her and nodded. "Am I a part of your pack?"
"Of course you are, Bex. Don't be silly." Rebekah looked away and Athena sighed. "You're jealous of Caroline, aren't you?"
"No, I'm not, cause that would be ridiculous." Athena gave her a look. "Fine! Yes, I'm jealous of her."
The younger hybrid looked confused, shaking her head. "Why?"
"Because I'm afraid she'll become a sister to you and then it'll be as if-"
"We aren't sisters anymore," Athena finished. "Rebekah, you don't have to be jealous. Katherine is a part of my pack too. But look..." She walked over to her sister and sat next to her, taking her hands. "You are my sister and I love you. Caroline may be a part of my pack, but you are too. And I protect my pack, no matter what. It doesn't change anything."
Rebekah smiled and then hugged her. "You have no idea what it has been like without you. None of us were ever the same."
But a groan interrupted their moment when Caroline woke up, holding her neck from it being snapped. Rebekah grabbed Caroline's phone and Athena raised an eyebrow. The blonde took a picture of herself and Athena, startling the younger girl.
"Where's Tyler?" Caroline asked.
"He's dead. Ish," Rebekah replied.
She rolled over and saw Tyler lying next to her. Caroline sat up and turned him over. "What did you do to him?"
"Think of it as he's having a nap. When he wakes up, he'll be a hybrid."
Caroline put her ear to Tyler's chest to check for a heartbeat while Rebekah swiped through Caroline's pictures, Athena looking over her shoulder. She came to stop on a picture of Stefan and Elena and the two Mikaelson sisters rolled their eyes in disgust.
"Ugh!" they both said.
Athena narrowed her eyes at the picture. "Rebekah." Her sister looked at her. "Look." The younger sister zoomed in on the picture to Elena's neck, where Rebekah necklace was, being worn by the doppelganger.
"Is that my neck..." Rebekah trailed off. She got up and went over to Caroline, glaring. "Why is that doppelgänger bitch wearing my necklace?!"
Athena grabbed her sister's hand and took her back to the Gym. The brunette went to Elena.
"You have something that belongs to my sister! Where is it?! Where is my sister's necklace?!" she exclaimed.
Rebekah followed and stood next to her.
"What are you talking about?" Klaus questioned.
"She has my necklace. Look," Rebekah said, giving him the phone, showing him the picture.
"Well, well. More lies," Klaus said when he realized that indeed Elena had Rebekah's necklace.
Athena took a threatening step toward Elena. She could feel Rebekah's angry, her desperation, and it made her feel the same way.
"Where...is it?" she growled.
"I don't have it anymore," Elena told her, taking a step back.
"You're lying!"
Klaus and Rebekah watched as Athena vamped out and bit Elena, her violet eyes bright with anger. Klaus pulled her back and pulled her aside.
"Calm down, Ena!"
"She can feel my anger Nik," Rebekah told him.
Klaus looked at them before looking at Elena who had a hand on her bleeding neck.
"Where's the necklace, sweetheart? Be honest," he said.
"I'm telling the truth," Elena insisted. "Katherine stole it."
Athena felt her anger fade just a bit at the mention of one of her pack mates.
"Katerina," Klaus sighed. "Of course. Well, that's unfortunate. If we had the necklace it would make things a whole lot easier for your witch, but since we're doing this the hard way, let's put a clock on it, shall we?"
Klaus walked over and put on the clock, it making a buzzer sound, a clock appearing on the board.
He went over to Stefan and compelled him. "Twenty minutes. If Bonnie hasn't found a solution by then, I want you to feed again. Only this time, I want you to feed on Elena. You know you want to."
"No, Klaus! Don't do this to him!" Elena pleaded.
Rebekah grabbed her sister's hand and started to pull her gently as she, Athena, and Klaus started to leave the Gym.
"No one leaves. If she tries to run, fracture her spine," Klaus told Stefan before they walked out of the room. Klaus led them to the classroom Caroline and Tyler were in and stopped outside of it. He looked at Rebekah. "Don't let Athena out of your sight. I'm going to go and look for the witch."
He went to walk away when Athena stopped him. "I'm sorry about attacking Elena, Nik. I just angry."
Klaus turned to her and kissed the top of her head. "Don't apologize, sweetheart. She deserved it anyway."
Rebekah and Athena went into the classroom and Klaus left. Caroline was sitting by Tyler when they walked in and none of them said a word.
---
They had been sitting for about seventeen minutes, according to Caroline's phone that was matched to the Gym clock's time. Athena was picking at her nails when Tyler gasped awake.
"Where am I? What happened?" he asked Caroline
"Tyler," she replied, softly.
"Don't be shy about it," Rebekah butted in.
The two looked at her and Athena who were sitting together side by side, Athena lying her head on Rebekah's shoulder.
"What's going on?" Tyler questioned.
"Klaus is turning you into a vampire. A hybrid really. You're in transition," Athena told him.
"You forgot the hard part, Ena," Rebekah pointed out. She looked at Tyler. "You'll only survive if your witch is successful. If not...You're pretty much dead."
Tyler looked shocked and Caroline calmed him.
"You're going to be okay. Okay? It's going to be okay," she told him.
"I wonder how she's doing," Rebekah mused. She looked at the clock again and Athena saw that there were only two minutes left. The older sister turned it around for them to see, smirking. "Tick tock goes the gym clock."
---
Athena was starting to drift off when she heard Klaus's voice.
"Well, the verdict's in. The original witch says the doppelgänger should be dead," he announced.
Rebekah sprang up and Athena woke up, steadying herself from almost falling over.
"Does that mean we can kill her?" Rebekah smiled.
"No, I'm fairly certain it means the opposite," he told her.
"What?!"
Rebekah held Caroline back and Athena stayed where she was.
"Call it a hunch," Klaus explained. He showed a test tube of blood to Tyler. "Elena's blood. Drink it."
Caroline struggled in Rebekah's grasp. "No! No, no, no, Tyler, don't!"
"If he doesn't feed, he'll die anyway, love. Consider this an experiment. It's okay."
Tyler struggled but then he finally drank it. Athena started to swing her feet around to keep herself awake. The girl hadn't really slept since the trip back, which was well over a few hours ago. But Athena knew that things were only starting and that things would get worse, and better she hoped though she doubted it.
All of a sudden, Tyer started coughing and rolled over the desk and onto the floor. He screamed and he held his held, screaming still. Then, his face started to change, his eyes yellow, and fangs and veins under them.
"Well, that's a good sign," Klaus commented.
---
The Mikaelson siblings had taken Elena to the hospital to take her blood (much to Rebekah's and Athena's dismay. Klaus was quite smug and the two sisters were still upset.
"So the doppelgänger isn't the problem. Her blood is the solution," Rebekah concluded.
"Seems so," Klaus replied.
"How did you know?" Athena asked.
"Well, you two know how much the original witch hated me. Do you honestly think I would do anything other than the opposite of what she says?"
Athena made a thoughtful face. It just didn't seem right to her. Why would Esther make them vampires, only to despise them afterward? And why would Mikael kill her? It didn't make any sense, but Athena didn't bother questioning it.
"A thousand years in the grave and she's still screwing with you," Rebekah smiled, wrapping her arm around her sister, allowing Athena to lay her head on her shoulder.
"Well, it makes sense if you think about it from her perspective. It was her fail-safe in case I ever broke the hybrid curse. The doppelgänger had to die in order for me to become a hybrid, but if she was dead-" Klaus started.
"Then you couldn't use her blood to sire yourself a new species."
"Leaving me alone for all time."
This caused Athena to open her eyes back up and look at him. She spoke, "That's what this is about? Your obsession with hybrids? You just don't want to be alone?"
Klaus tried to cover his sadness, though he couldn't. "What I want is to take my girl, take my hybrid the hell out of this one-pony town." He looked at Rebekah. "You know, why don't you, uh, why don't you get the truck? Let our baby sister get some sleep. I'll get Elena."
Rebekah nodded and picked up Athena. Walking to the car. She set her younger sibling in the passenger seat and put a piece of Athena's hair out of the girl's eyes.
"Rebekah," Athena called out in a small voice.
"Hmm?" came the response.
The girl opened her eyes a bit to look at her older sister. "Why does Nik think he'll be alone? He has us."
Rebekah sighed and caressed Athena's cheek fondly. "I'm not too sure, sweetheart. But don't worry your little mind." She bopped Athena on the nose, earning a small smile from the girl. "Get some sleep."
And before Athena could argue, her eyes fell closed and she fell asleep.
Dreaming once again of the red-headed boy.
