Time Changes People

I have cast Mackenzie Foy as young Athena and Katherine Langford as grown-up Athena! I have also changed Melody's name to Athena if you haven't noticed already. I've added a Disclaimer, Introduction, Epigraph, and a Cast List part. I've also updated the Playlist part! I've changed my writing style so it's now more descriptive than actual dialogue. Also, I'm cutting the chapters down so I won't be putting what everyone else is doing. It will always take place with Athena around. Here and there it might not, but most of the time it will.

UPDATE 6/1/18: I have officially finished rewriting the chapters up until this point. Hopefully, it is better than before!

Flashback (Athena's Age: 5)

ATHENA WALKED THROUGH the forest as she was lost in her thoughts. But the young girl's thoughts were only interrupted when she heard a twig snap and approaching footsteps. She turned to see a figure walking toward her.

The young girl's lips curved into a small smile and she saw Rebekah, her older sister, walking to her with a matching smile. Athena went and hugged her sister and then looked up at her.

"Come on Ena, that smile isn't fooling me," she said. Athena sighed and bit her lip as she avoided her sister's gaze. "Kol did it so you wouldn't get hurt," Rebekah told her softly as she crouched down in front of Athena.

"But he sounded like he did," Athena retorted childishly. Rebekah fought a smile and forced herself to look serious.

"Kol and the boys didn't want you to get hurt. So they had Kol-"

"He tricked me," Athena reminded with a sad look, "I wanted to help." Rebekah put her hands on Athena's shoulders.

"Us girls don't hunt, we prepare food, clean, and tend to the sick. The boys are the ones who fight and hunt." Athena made a face. The little girl didn't think that. She thought both girls and boys could fight and hunt. Why was it that girls had to cook and clean? Why was it the boys got to fight and hunt?

"But that's not fair. Girls should be able to hunt just like boys," Athena said then turned and ran.

Rebekah fear grew that her sister would get hurt so she ran after her.

Athena blinked away the tears as she heard two people approaching. She looked over to see Klaus and Elijah looking at her. She hopped down from the car and got into the backseat of the four door car.

Klaus sighed and then remembered how he had killed one of her pack mates, Jenna. Elijah noticed his brother's look and looked back at the car.

"She is hurting Niklaus, give her some time to heal and to mourn. She won't be upset for too long."

And with that, Elijah got into the driver's seat of the car while Klaus stood there for a moment before walking and getting into the passenger seat.

Flashback

Kol, Niklaus, and Elijah had just returned to the village after hunting and Kol looked at their family cottage.

"Do you think she's upset with me?" he questioned his brothers.

Elijah smiled and shook his head lightly, "She just upset, Kol. She won't be upset for too long."

Niklaus smirked and the three walked into the cottage.

"Little one I am deeply sorry for what I did," Kol called out when they entered. There was silence in the cottage and Kol smiled slightly before walking to Athena's and Rebekah's room. Once he entered, he realized that no one was present. He grew worried and called out for his brothers. Elijah and Niklaus stepped into the room and looked around, seeing too, that both girls were nowhere to be seen.

"Rebekah?" Niklaus called out, "Athena?"

Silence filled the air and the three instantly became worried. They raced out of the cottage and ran went around, asking the other villagers if they had seen their sisters. All answered with a similar response. All answer 'no'. But then there was a female who nodded.

"I saw the younger one walking in the forest and Rebekah talking to her," the female said.

The three males thanked her and ran off into the direction they were told the two girls had gone.

The car had reached its location and Athena instantly exited the car. She heard the aggravated sigh Klaus gave and she ignored him.

She heard two voices up in Alaric's apartment and she, Elijah, and Klaus went up to the apartment and opened the door. Katherine and Stefan were shown as the two were watching them carefully.

"Klaus, you're back. Look who decided to come for a visit," Katherine said, her eyes falling on Elijah and then the youngest Mikaelson. Athena looked at her and sent a small smile and then sent a small smile to Stefan.

Klaus saw the smile between Stefan and Athena and he stepped in front of their line of vision so Stefan was now looking at Klaus.

"You just keep popping up, don't you?" Klaus said smirking. Stefan looked at Elijah and then at Klaus as he announced that he was her for help for Damon.

"Well, whatever it is, it's gonna have to wait a tick. You see, I have an obligation to my brother that requires my immediate attention," Klaus explained. Athena's eyes furrowed and she felt Katherine take her hand and move her over so she was out of the way. Katherine had Athena's back to her and the newly turned hybrid girl got a feeling like her brother

Elijah nodded at Klaus explanation and then looked to Stefan, "You understand how important family is, or you wouldn't be here. My brother gave me his word that he would reunite me with my own."

"And so I shall," Klaus said and then he daggered Elijah, which earned a pained grunt from Elijah and a scream from Athena.

Elijah looked up at Klaus with hurt eyes and then his skin turned gray and he fell to the floor. Athena felt tears stream down her face as Katherine held her to her chest. The youngest Mikaelson felt a slight pain in her chest but then it disappeared instantly. Stefan looked surprised and then Klaus pointed a stake at him.

"Now, what am I gonna do with you?" he wondered out loud. Athena's eyes widened.

"Nik no!"

Klaus sped and staked Stefan in his stomach. Athena struggled against Katherine, "Nik please leave him alone."

Stefan groaned and buckled forward but Klaus held him up.

"No worries sister. I won't kill him. But the slightest little movement and he'll be dead. The wood is scraping against his heart."

"He's just trying to help his brother," Katherine spoke up, backing Athena up.

"The witches said you had a cure. Make me a deal. Just give me the cure, and I'll do whatever you want," Stefan bargained. Klaus thought for a moment and Athena was silently pleading that her brother would let him go.

Klaus took the stake out and Stefan fell to the floor. Katherine and Athena stayed in place and watched as Klaus walked over to the counter and laid the stake on it. He poured himself a glass of blood and started talking.

"Trouble is I don't know if you'd be any good to me the way you are now. You are just shy of useless."

He made his way over to Stefan who was still on the floor. He crouched down in front of him and held the glass of blood. Athena saw it and her veins grew. Katherine noticed and held her tighter.

"I heard about this one vampire, crazy bloke, always on and off the wagon for decades. When he was off, he was magnificent. 1917, he went into Monterrey and wiped out an entire migrant village...A true ripper. Sound familiar?" Klaus asked Stefan.

The youngest Mikaelson realized that her older brother was indeed talking about Stefan and she was surprised to hear that Stefan acted that way.

"I haven't been that way in a very long time," Stefan admitted.

"Well, that's the vampire I can make a deal with. That is the kind of talent that I can use when I leave this town."

Athena's eyebrows furrowed. He was leaving? Just as he arrived he is already leaving that fast. Stefan got up and glared at Klaus.

"Katerina, come here," Klaus said to the doppelganger. Katherine hesitantly lets go of Athena and walked over to Klaus. Klaus took her arm and his face changed and then he bit her arm.

Athena felt a pain in her arm but then like before, it disappeared. Stefan and Athena saw as the bite on Katherine's arm slowly became veiny. Like a werewolf bite.

"No. No...No. No. No," Katherine repeated in disbelief. Athena gasped and growled at her brother. Klaus looked at her and then bite his wrist and forced Katherine to drink his blood. Katherine's bite disappeared and she healed.

"You want your cure? There it is," Klaus said, looking directly at Stefan.

"Your blood is the cure," Stefan realized.

"Gotta love Mother Nature."

Athena scoffed and she glared at him. Klaus ignored her and put his hand on Stefan's shoulder, "Now...Let's talk, you and I."

Flashback

Rebekah chased after Athena as the young girl ran.

"Athena!" Rebekah yelled in fear. She couldn't live with herself if her youngest sister was hurt. Or worse, if her sister was killed because of her own idiocy. Athena stopped running and started crying. Rebekah caught up to her and knelt down beside her, "Athena, Kol is just trying to protect you. We don't know what we'd do if you were ever hurt." Athena frowned and sniffled.

"But Kol will be mad at me," she said sadly. Rebekah helped her up and smiled.

"No, he won't. He and the boys are probably looking for us as we speak." Athena thought for a moment and then she sighed, wiping her tears, mumbling at "fine". Rebekah took her hand and they started walking through the forest and back to the village.

Kol, Elijah, and Niklaus were walking through the forest calling out the girls names. Rebekah heard it first and then sighed.

"I told you, Athena." Athena avoided her eyes and Rebekah called back to the boys.

"Wait. I think I heard Rebekah," Elijah said, making Kol and Niklaus stop. Rebekah called out again and the boys ran toward the direction her voice came from. The boys saw Rebekah and they reached them.

"Athena," Kol said relieved as he ran toward her and hugged her. Athena hugged back and she frowned.

"I'm sorry," she apologized to her older brother. They broke apart and Kol shook his head.

"No, I'm sorry Ena. I shouldn't have tricked you into stay home. I just didn't want you to get hurt." Athena smiled and hugged him again.

"I love you Koloa bear." They all laughed.

"Love you too little one," Kol said.

Klaus squeezed a knife blade tightly as he cut his hand, letting his blood spill into a vial. Stefan, Katherine, and Athena are all watching him. Athena felt the slight sting on her hand and she was thankful that she barely felt it. Stefan had his teeth clenched as he waited for Klaus to announce what he'd want in return.

"There it is. You want to save your brother? How 'bout a decade-long bender? And I have big plans for you when we leave this town," Klaus said as he finished putting his blood into the vial.

"I'm not like that anymore," Stefan reminded. Athena knew the Salvatore had said the wrong thing and it proved right when Klaus started pouring the vial of blood into the sink.

"Wait," Stefan said. Klaus stopped pouring the blood and smirked.

"Now that's more like it. I want you to join me for a drink," he said. Then he threw Stefan a blood bag and Stefan took it. Athena watched as Stefan then opened the blood bag and took a sip of it. She couldn't understand how her brother could be so different from when she knew him. But she guessed after a thousand years, things and people change.

"Finish it. All of it. You do everything I say, and I save your brother. That's the deal," Klaus told Stefan. Stefan drank all of it and Athena pushed her hunger down. Once Stefan finished, Klaus threw him another bag, telling him to drink more. Stefan hesitantly opened it and drank it. Athena looked at her brother and saw him watching with amusement. She was right, a thousand years really can change someone.

Katherine and Athena resorted to sitting on the couch, watching a Stefan devoured his fifth blood bag. The empty four scattered around him. Athena hated to see Stefan like this. Forced to be the person he once was and never wanted to be again. Athena couldn't imagine herself in his place, but she could feel his pain, his struggle as he fought his blood cravings. Stefan then finished his fifth one and grunted and looked up at Klaus who was watching him with a smirk.

"You're very cooperative. It's almost as if you're enjoying it," Klaus said, then he threw another blood bag to Stefan. Athena let out a small sigh just as Stefan shook his head.

"No more. Not until you give me the cure," he said to Klaus.

"Not until we make a deal. It's your choice, Stefan. You can either remain here living your life in Mystic Falls, or you can embrace what you truly are, leave town with me and my sister, and save your brother's life," Klaus said. Athena felt a slight smile appear on her face because of the fact Klaus wasn't leaving her. But then it soon fell as she realized how he was treating her pack mate. Klaus crouched down, picked up the blood bag, and held it out to Stefan. Stefan snatched it and drank vigorously. Athena's nose scrunched up as she forced down her familiar craving. Klaus was happy with Stefan's action and he stood up and took the vial that contained his blood, looking at Katherine.

"Sweetheart..." he started, then he flashed over and started compelling her, "Take this over to Damon and come right back."

"You want me to leave?" Katherine said surprised, but yet she felt a happiness, knowing she could escape Klaus and run. Athena's eyes widened, knowing Katherine was indeed on vervain and she wouldn't take it to Damon, instead she would run.

"No!" Stefan exclaimed since he too knew Katherine was on vervain.

"Yes and if I were you-" Klaus started, but he didn't even get to finish before Katherine grabbed the vial and flashed out of the apartment, "I'd hurry," Klaus finished with a smirk. He sat down in a chair and Stefan and Athena were both in shock.

"She'll never take it to him," Stefan said.

Klaus cocked his head in a gesture of indifference and Stefan looked down and whispered to himself as he repeated the line again. Athena was frozen in her spot as she stared at the open door, where Katherine had fled. She was hurt by the fact that the doppelganger didn't seem to care about her, otherwise, she would've stayed right? But then Athena remembered that Katherine had been running for centuries from her brother and so she dropped it. She couldn't blame Katherine for wanting to survive. Time changes people. And after you get hurt, you lose a shred of your humanity. Each time someone betrays you or leaves you all alone.

---

Athena looked at Elijah as he laid in a coffin. She smiled sadly and saw Klaus watching her with a mask, covering his emotions. So Athena looked back at Elijah and then kissed his cheek.

"I love you 'Lijah. I'll see you again," she whispered, not knowing Elijah heard her from his unconscious state. She closed the coffin and then stepped away from it and Klaus looked at the two men who were standing nearby, waiting for instructions.

"Put him with the others. We're leaving town tonight," he said to them. The two men nod once and then push the coffin away and put it with the other coffins. Athena watched him leave and wiped the stray tear from her eye. Klaus walked over to her and she didn't look at him.

"I miss them," she said quietly. Klaus instantly knew who she was talking about so he didn't say anything for a moment.

"You'll see them soon. I promise," he said. Athena turned to look at him and he saw her tears that cascaded down her cheeks.

"Promise?" she asked. Klaus smiled and nodded.

"I promise." Athena smiled and hugged him. That smile was the piece of humanity that laid in her brother. Even if he was different, he was still her brother. And she couldn't live with hating him nor could she live without him. Her family was everything to her. If Klaus was different that meant that most likely her other siblings were as well. But they were still her family. She loved them and she always would. And she missed them. She missed Rebekah and her comforting words, she missed Elijah's honesty, and she missed Kol's ability to make her smile and laugh when she felt down. And they were all in coffins, daggered by Klaus.

Klaus and Athena walked over to Stefan and Stefan said that Katherine gave Damon the blood, curing him. Then Klaus brought out a girl and told Stefan to drink from her. Stefan looked at Athena and then started drinking from the girl. Stefan let go of the girl and the girl ran, screaming. But then Stefan flashed in front of her and dug his fangs into her neck, drinking from her until she died. Athena frowned and then watched as Stefan let out strangled breaths.

"Now we can go," Klaus said smirking, amused by Stefan's action.

Flashback

Athena's eyes slowly opened as she "woke up". She sprang up and started breathing heavily as she looked around her, seeing that she was in the forest.

"Nik! Rebekah! Elijah! Kol!" she yelled as she got up. She heard yelling and then ran toward it. She then saw her siblings and ran toward them.

"Nik! Rebekah! Elijah! Kol! I'm ok!" she yelled with happiness. But then she stopped when none of them looked at her. Athena realized her siblings were all crying.

"Guys?" she said confused. She saw Rebekah look at the three boys and her eyes were red.

"We will find her. We will never stop," she said. Athena's eyebrows furrowed in confusion. The three boys looked up at Rebekah and they nodded.

"We will kill whoever took our sister. And we will make them pay," Kol said through gritted teeth.

"Kol? What are you guys talking about? I'm right here," Athena said as she started to panic.

"They can't hear you," someone said from behind her. Athena turned and saw a boy with red hair behind her. He didn't look any older than 18 and he smiled softly at her, "they can't see you either."

Athena looked back at her siblings who were now walking away and to a nearby cottage. She felt tears prick her eyes.

"Where am I? I don- I don't understand," she stuttered. Athena looked back at the boy and she saw his eyes turn sad.

"You're on the Other Side. This is where supernatural beings go when they die, or when they go into a state where they won't wake up for a while," he told her. Athena's eyes widened as she put a hand over her mouth.

"I'm dead?" she said.

The boy stepped forward and nodded."Yeah, probably."

Athena bit her lip and then sat down on the floor. The boy who had yet to introduce himself sat in front of her.

"I'm Athena," she introduced.

The redhead boy smiled at her comfortingly. "I'm Thomas."

So Thomas has been introduced!! Cameron is just amazing so I couldn't resist putting him in here. The storyline has changed slightly but Athena is still a hybrid and such. I know the flashback at the end makes no sense, but it will in the future I promise.
