Wishing Upon A Star
━━━━━━━━
IT HAD BEEN DAYS since the disappearance of the coffins. It had been days since Athena had talked to anyone besides Klaus and his hybrids. She was furious though she didn't know what her first move would be. Athena wanted to fight back, she wanted to do something. Her siblings were missing and Klaus was just as furious as she was. But they had kept quiet within the last few days. Rebekah was their main priority. Athena had the speculation that someone might have daggered her before the party. So Klaus took that lead and began making plans.
Stefan's motives were still the same and him being removed from Athena's pack didn't change them. Even though he felt like he was missing a part of himself, getting revenge was what he wanted. It was all he had left.
"Athena, were you even listening?" Klaus questioned, making the said sister snap out of her thoughts.
She shook her head. "No. I-I... Nik we've done nothing for days. You said you're looking but you haven't done anything. You said they would pay."
"And they will." And walked toward her and put his hands on her shoulders. "They will pay, I promised you that. I've had Tyler get Jeremy off of the vervain and now I can compel him. But you're right, we haven't done anything. Now's our chance."
"What do you want me to do?"
He smiled. "Do whatever you want."
A smirk slowly crept onto Athena's face. "Anything I want?"
"Anything."
---
Athena tried so hard not to gag. Elena and Damon stood close to each other and it was clear Damon was drunk. She and Klaus had gone to the Grill to provoke them a bit. Klaus had told her it was key to catch your enemies off guard. So that's when Athena made her own plan.
"Noted. See if I can make any improvements," Damon said, replying to Elena's comment.
"Don't mind us," Klaus spoke up from behind them.
The two turned and saw two of the Mikaelson siblings smirking at them.
"Klaus. Athena," Elena greeted hesitantly.
Athena waved at her with her smirk in place.
"You gonna do this in the Grill?" Damon questioned. "In front of everyone? It's a little beneath you, don't you think?"
"We don't know what you are talking about," Athena frowned fakely. "Nik and I just came down to have some nice lunch together."
She was proud of the looks on their faces. They were shocked and surprised by how she was acting. But they knew all of the Mikaelson siblings were monsters. It turned out that Athena wasn't an exception. Athena never thought of her family as monsters, but everyone else did.
"I'm surprised you stuck around," Damon finally said.
"Our sister seems to be missing," Klaus explained. "Need to sort that out."
"Cute blonde bombshell, psycho. Shouldn't be too hard to find."
Athena glared and then scoffed. "Well, we're going to stay in this cozy little town for a while. Now how this affects you is completely your choice. We get what we want and everyone behaves, then nothing happens. Otherwise, we will retaliate with no hesitation."
"What more could you possibly want?" Elena asked, looking now scared at the seemingly young girl's threat.
"Well for starters, you can tell us where we might find Stefan," Klaus replied.
"Stefan skipped town the second he saved your ass," Damon told him.
Now Athena didn't believe that for a second. Maybe he didn't know where Stefan was, but that didn't mean the ripper wasn't the town still. He had to be hiding the coffins somewhere close.
"Shame," Athena commented with a pout. She then glared. "Stefan stole from us. We find him, we can get back what is rightfully ours."
"That sounds like a Klaus. Athena, and Stefan problem," Elena pointed out.
Klaus watched proudly as his sister took a step toward Elena. Damon stepped in front of the younger hybrid and Athena smirked.
"Consider this a warning then," she said. The girl flashed her violet eyes. "Elena."
The doppelganger flinched back and Damon glared fiercely. Athena's eyes went back to normal and she turned on her heel, walking away. Klaus sent Damon and Elena a smirk before following after his sister.
Athena sat down and Klaus sat in front of her at the booth. A waiter came over and they ordered. Once the waiter was gone, Klaus looked over at her.
She saw him and smiled. "Did I do ok?"
He smiled back. "You did. I'm quite proud."
"Really?"
"Of course. You stood up to them. I'm proud of you."
Athena smiled wide and the waiter brought over their food and drinks. "So what now?"
"Well, you tell me. I can tell you have an idea."
The younger hybrid looked over to where Damon and Elena were to see the two now gone. She looked back over at Klaus and then sighed.
"Ok."
By the time she finished, Klaus was looking shocked, even prouder. His sister was truly a mastermind in disguise.
---
Damon was alone at the Boarding House, pouring himself a drink when he felt a presence. He didn't need to turn around to know who it was, but he did anyway.
"Hello, Damon," Athena greeted.
"Athena."
She walked down the steps and Damon would be lying if he said the young looking girl wasn't intimidating. He knew what she was, what she was capable of. And he knew for a fact that the girl he helped rescue from the coffin was gone.
"What're you doing? Wallowing in your sorrows?" she taunted.
"You know me. Never miss a chance to plan an epic failure."
He took a sip of his glass and Athena reached the bottom of the stairs.
"Aw don't be so upset. You couldn't have guessed that your own brother who you love dearly would betray you."
"Well, I did have a front row seat when you lured your brother to his near death."
Athena covered up her anger and continued to smirk. "But I did have a front row seat when you failed to kill him. Say, speaking of siblings, you said you have no idea of Rebekah's whereabouts?"
"That's the thing siblings. You just never know what they're gonna do," Damon laughed, trying to hide the fact that Athena was kinda scaring him. "I would offer you a drink but, you're underage."
"It's ok. I would've said no anyway."
Damon poured himself another drink and drank it all at once. "So what exactly did Stefan steal from you and Klaus?"
"My family," she replied. "Nik had them daggered, boxed-up awaiting the day when he saw fit to wake them. Stefan went in and took them all."
Standing there, Athena tried so hard not to rip out his heart right then and there. Damon had to know, he had to. The idea of her family being missing and her never seeing them again made it hard for her to breathe. She was so close to getting them back, and then they were gone.
"Of course he did," Damon sighed. "Such a buzzkill, my baby bro. Well, I'd love to find him. Just the trouble is, I sure as hell don't work for you or Klaus."
Athena couldn't take it anymore. She was done waiting. Klaus was done waiting. It was time to get their family back.
"You put vervain in your drink so I can't compel you. I can't kill you please you're the one who can help me get what I want. But I still think you need to be taught a lesson." Damon watched her hesitantly as the girl took a step toward him. "When Klaus and I told you to find Stefan, we meant it. It is truly a shame that the only way your little gang reacts is if violence occurs. I might look innocent to an outsider, but I promise you, I can be much worse than Klaus. Take this as an example." She took out her phone and called the most recent number. Athena smiled. "Hi. So do you remember that thing I told you to do? Time to get on with it."
The brunette hung up and looked at Damon. The vampire looked confused so she smirked.
"See you later, Damon."
---
When she arrived at the Mansion Klaus was building for their family, Klaus saw her almost immediately. He saw her victorious smirk and knew her plan had succeeded.
"I take it that the plan went smoothly?"
Athena sighed. "It did. Though Alaric did jump in front of the car for Jeremy, they got the message loud and clear."
Tyler then walked in and they turned to him.
"Did everything go ok?" he asked them.
"Yes. Thank you, Tyler," Athena smiled.
The hybrid looked confused. "But you said you two were sending them a warning."
"And Athena did," Klaus pointed out. "An effective one if I do say so myself! Elena's family suffers, she is motivated to get us what we want."
"I didn't think that we actually have to kill anyone."
Athena raised an eyebrow and she and Klaus exchanged a glance. Klaus then sighed and looked at Tyler. "Tyler, mate. What you are feeling is the remnant of a guilty conscience. I need you to get over it, okay? End of the day human life is just a means to an end. Our means to our end. You do well to remember that?"
Though she didn't agree with his statement, Athena didn't argue as Klaus walked out of the room. She looked at Tyler once more before following Klaus.
"Do you think Elena will give us Rebekah back now?"
Klaus gave her a sideways glance before focusing back on the compelled human workers. "I think she will. We hurt her family. She won't want anyone else hurt so she will return Rebekah in exchange for something."
Athena stopped walking and he noticed. He turned to look at her to see a guilty expression on her face.
"Don't tell me you feel guilty about hurting Alaric."
"I wanted Elena to hurt, not Alaric or Jeremy. They could've died and it would have been my fault."
Klaus started feeling guilty himself. Not because Alaric got hurt, but because he let his sister plan a murder. And now it was his fault she felt this way.
"The world is dark, sister. And you cannot feel guilty for every person you hurt. Because at the end of the day, it was to get our family back. They wouldn't have given them back if you asked nicely, that just isn't the way the world works. We are The Original family, the first ever vampires. We need to stand up against others to protect each other."
"So you're saying that I can't feel guilty anymore?"
"I'm saying not to think about it that way."
The two were silent before Athena sighed.
"Ok." She didn't want to be useless anymore. She didn't want to rely on her family or pack to protect her. "I will."
Klaus smiled and kissed the top of her. "Come on, there's much to do."
---
It took a few hours before Elena had called Klaus. By the time she did, it was dark out, and all of the compelled humans left. Athena had decided to stick to her word and no longer rely on others to protect her. She was going to protect herself and the people she cared about. And she didn't care what she had to do in order to do so.
They went to the Boarding House and Elena opened the door not long after they knocked.
"Thank you for coming."
Athena and Klaus entered and the girl narrowed her eyes at her.
"Do you have news about Stefan?"
"I couldn't find him," she replied. "But I have something else."
The doppelganger led them down to the basement and opened the cellar door to reveal Rebekah lying on the floor, daggered and still in her homecoming dress. Athena growled at Elena and Klaus held an arm out.
"She's giving us what we want, Ena. No need to harm her for now."
Elena gulped and Athena flashed her hybrid eyes before looking back at Rebekah.
"You have Rebekah. A deal is a deal," Elena told them.
"The life of my sister in exchange for your brother?" Klaus questioned. He nodded. "Yeah, I'd say that's a bargain. Consider him spared."
Elena looked over at Athena and the girl rolled her eyes.
"I'll spare him too."
"Then you two should know I was the one that daggered her."
Athena scoffed. "Figures."
"When she wakes she'll come after me," Elena pointed out.
The younger hybrid was getting annoyed because it seemed like Elena thought that she actually cared. Athena knew the feeling in her gut was right: Elena had daggered Rebekah before the party.
"We can control Rebekah," Klaus said. "Besides I still need your help finding Stefan."
"I told you I don't know where he is," Elena responded.
Klaus crouched down and removed the dagger from Rebekah. "You're lying."
"Luckily, you have plenty of people you care about. If we don't get our family back, it is only a matter of time before someone else dies too. I'm thinking about Damon," Athena taunted. "Stefan is going to give us what we want."
"He doesn't care about me anymore," Elena pointed out. "Klaus made sure of that. Stefan is a monster. Now he's your problem." She looked at Klaus. "And just so you know I'm not the only one that Rebekah wants dead. She knows what you did to your mother. She knows that you killed her. You can let yourself out."
Elena left them there and Athena sighed.
"Let's go home."
Klaus nodded and then picked up Rebekah. They flashed out of the Boarding House and went to the Mansion. He lied her on the table and Athena let a tear fall. She went over to her sister and rubbed her cheek. Klaus watched with a sad look.
"It's not fair, Nik. We should've lived normal human lives. We all could've lived happily ever after if they hadn't done this to us." She started to cry and held onto Rebekah's gray hand. "They will never stop. Elena, Damon, Stefan, everyone else. We are doomed to an eternity of fighting off people who hate us. And it is all their fault. I wish things could've been different."
Klaus felt a tear leave his eye and he walked over. He grabbed the dagger and then put it back in Rebekah's chest. Athena started to sob and Klaus held her against him.
"As do I. But one day we will be happy. One day our family will be whole again," he told her.
But the younger sibling did not respond as she cried. And Klaus knew she was right.
They would never stop fighting.

My poor baby Athena! She honestly deserves the world and I know she needs to go through this to become stronger.
