The Hybrids

━━━━━━━━

ATHENA SAT ON THE top of the car as she watched Stefan flash to the back of the house they were at. Klaus said that someone named Ray lived in the home but Athena didn't understand why her brother would want to search for werewolves and then turn them into hybrids. She, being the naive girl she is, didn't think anything of it. Klaus walked around the car and looked at her.

"Stay here Athena. I'll be back in a few minutes." Athena sighed and nodded. She was stuck in a car for hours on end and she was tired. All she wanted to do was curl up on a couch and watch some Netflix with her family (Caroline had told her about Netflix). But, it seems after a few months of just traveling, looking for werewolves and the fact that are siblings are in coffins, that didn't seem very likely to happen.

And the fact that she was getting strange dreams didn't help either. She would be in this forest and there was someone calling out to her. The voice wasn't familiar in any way so that didn't help at all. But the person sounded worried when they called her name. Her name being echoed, over and over. Then they would reach to where she was, and she would she red hair, and then it ended. But each time the boy got closer and closer into her vision. So in time, she would know what he looked like.

---

The seemingly young girl waited patiently, ignoring the screaming coming from the farm house that laid in the middle of nowhere.

Snap

Athena's head snapped toward the sound as she narrowed her eyes at the woods where the sound came from. She listened for a heartbeat and after a few seconds, she concluded that there was none. The Mikaelson shrugged it off and turned her attention back to the house where the screaming continued but now, Klaus was walking out of the house with a smug smile.

"Did you get what you needed?" Athena asked as she paid no mind to the screaming. After hearing nothing but screaming and seeing gore for months, she had built a tolerance to just ignore it. So instead, she focused on the fact that she was reunited with one of her siblings after a thousand years. But then young girl did miss her other siblings.

"Indeed I did. We should be on our way to the Southern Comfort Bar in no time." Athena nodded and then the two fell silent. Klaus looked at his younger sisters face and noticed how her posture seemed to be odd. "You ok Athena?" Athena looked over at him and nodded again. Klaus sensed her lie and stepped in front of her. "You know you can tell me anything. It won't upset me." Athen bit her lip and couldn't help the tears that pricked her eyes.

"I miss them Nik. I miss Elijah, Rebekah, and Kol. And I do not understand why you would dagger them and put them away as if they were part of your collection." Klaus looked guilty and he took a deep breath and put his head against his sister's forehead. They stood there for a moment before Klaus kissed her forehead.

"I promise you will see them. But I have to do this first. Then we can all be reunited. We will be a family once again." Athena smiled lightly and then hugged him.

"Promise me no one will get between our family." Klaus hugged her back and answered with a determined tone.

"I promise. And if anyone dares cross us, we will fight back. And we will be strong."

---

Athena frowned as the body fell to the floor and her previously empty glass was now filled with blood. Stefan - with his emotionless mask - picked up the body and drained the rest of it. Klaus was sitting next to them and sipped his blood-filled cup. Athena's nose scrunched up but she took the glass and drank it. Klaus seemed happy that she was drinking the blood from the human even if she wasn't drinking from the vein. This was because the young girl had insisted she'd drink from animals on the road trip. Much to Klaus's disappointment, he followed his sister's wishes. But Athena knew she would have to grow used to human blood eventually.

Klaus was about to say something to her when someone entered the bar. Making the bell on the door jingled and the air from outside rush in. A whiff of - what smelt like dog - filled Athena's nostrils and she realized that is must have been the werewolf - Ray - that walked into the bar.

Her thoughts were proven when the werewolf walked up to the bar and sat down, the barman greeting him with a 'What's up Ray?'. The werewolf ordered a beer and Klaus smirked and got up, walking over to him. Stefan then gets up without looking at Athena and follows the hybrid. Athena took a deep breath and finished her glass of blood before getting up and following also.

"Ray? Ray Sutton?" Klaus asked when he approached the bar. Ray turned around and looked at Klaus, giving him a cautious look.

"Who wants to know?"

"I've been looking everywhere for you. We started in Florida, Pensacola. I met a young chap there who you used to work with before you moved to Memphis, now he directed me to two lovely young women. And they led me here, to you." Ray's heartbeat started to pick up so he got up and excused himself. But Klaus but his hand on Ray's chest, pushing him back.

"Not so fast mate. You only just got here, now your type are very hard to come by." Ray's eyes widened slightly and he tried to go the other way to leave but he bumped into Stefan who was staring at him with his emotionless mask. Ray then looked over and saw Athena standing back. He went to go towards her but Stefan pushed him against the counter with a glare.

"I wouldn't do that." Ray looked down at Stefan's hand and then back up at him.

"Vampires," he hissed.

"You're swifty swift Ray! Yes! My friend here is a vampire. He compelled everybody in the bar so don't look to them for any help. Me and my sister, however, we're something else, a different kind of monster. We've got some vampire, we've got some wolf," Klaus explained with the smirk still in place. But Stefan could tell the Hybrid was not happy with the fact Ray was just about to attack his little sister.

"You what?" Ray said in a surprised, shocked, and confused tone. He looked over at Athena and then back at Klaus.

"A hybrid Ray, we're both. You see I want to create more of me and my sister. Now you being the first werewolf that I've come across in many a moon, pun intended Ray! I need you to direct me to your pack. So, where can I find them, Ray?" Klaus asked as he inched closer.

"You can't compel me, it won't work." Athena and Stefan both made a face and Stefan scratched the back of his head awkwardly. Klaus narrows his eyes at Ray before looking at Stefan and nodded once. Stefan turned around and took out something out of his back pocket. He asked the bar man to bring out the darts and then turned to Ray.

"Tell you what Ray, We're gonna play a little drinking game, something I like to call truth or wolfsbane." He pulled out a pouch of wolfsbane, poured it into his hand, crushing it with his fingers. Athena's nose scrunched up again at the burning smell. She didn't really want to witness her brother and friend torture an innocent person, but did she really have a choice? She and her family were the most powerful creatures in the entire world. And people would come after them which meant war and bloodshed. Which was why she went over to an empty booth and sat down, ignoring Ray's scream when Stefan threw the wolfsbane dart into his arm.

---

Athena was surprised by the fact she was sitting at one of the booths, eating french fries, while a werewolf stood chained to the wall with darts all over his body. She could tell Ray was in a lot of pain and the werewolf struggled to keep his head up as he grunted from the wolfsbane circling in his body. Stefan sat at a table across the wall and stirred a glass of a drink with wolfsbane in it with a dart end. Then he took the dart out and threw it at Ray. Athena winced but continued chewing her fries. Klaus sat next to her looking amused as he watched Stefan torture Ray.

"Ray, you can end this right now. Just tell me where your pack gathers for the full moon," Stefan said, trying to persuade the werewolf. Ray shook his head lightly with all the strength he had left.

"I can't."

"I know, I know. You live by a code and all that, but see he's not gonna let me stop until you tell me. And I do whatever he says so, that's the way it goes around here." Athena frowned slightly at the last part but knew Stefan was right. He had to do whatever Klaus wanted him to do. It was part of the deal they made. The bell on the door jingled and a woman walked up to Klaus.

"Hello Mister Klaus. I have some more information for you. You told me to tell you if I saw anything. I saw the guys spotted Damon at the farm house," she said. Athena couldn't help but scoff in amusement. Klaus gave her a look and then looked back at Claudine.

"Well, thank you, Claudine. You'll just tell your friends to keep up the good work or they're gonna watch her." The girl walked away and Stefan walked up to them.

"My brother still on our trail?" he asked. Klaus sighed and then stood up.

"He's getting closer, I'm gonna have to deal with that." Athena's eyes widened and she stood up.

"Nik, please don't." Stefan grabbed Klaus's arm.

"Athena's right. Let me handle it." Klaus raised an eyebrow and looked at Stefan questioningly.

"Why should I let you leave?" he asked.

"Cause you know I'll come back." Klaus questioned him again saying "Do I?"

"You saved my brother's life; I'm at your service," Stefan explained. Athena looked pleading at her brother and when Klaus saw her look he knew he couldn't make her upset.

"Ah, you sound so tedious and indentured. Aren't you even having the least bit of fun?" Klaus asked Stefan, then pointed at Ray with a big smile. Stefan told Klaus he'd make sure Damon doesn't follow us again. And with that, the Salvatore turned and walked out of the bar.

"Thank you," Athena said gratefully to Klaus. Klaus smiled at her and then turned back to Ray.

"Now where were we?" Klaus was about to throw another dart when Ray lifted his head to glare at Klaus.

"You sure you want to keep torturing me? After all, there is a kid in the room who's too young to witness this kind of violence. Especially it coming from her brother. This isn't a good example your teaching her. Isn't she supposed to look up-" Ray didn't even get to finish before Klaus clenched his jaw and threw the dart right into Ray's eye angrily. Athena looked down and then she saw Klaus clench his fist into a ball as he glared fiercely at Ray.

---

Even if Klaus was completely and undeniably pissed at what Ray had said earlier, he was quite smug since Ray had revealed the location of the pack. Athena was watching nearby as Ray laid flat against a pool table and Klaus stood next to him.

"Okay, it's a three step process, Ray. This is step one. I want you to drink from my wrist," Klaus instructed. Ray looked confused as he told Klaus he had already told him where to find the pack so what more could he want from him. "Have you been listening to a word I've been saying, Ray? I have great plans for you." So with that, Klaus cut his wrist and forced Ray to drink the blood. Athena turned her head and saw Stefan enter the bar. She saw the way his jaw was locked so she assumed whatever he had to do he was not happy with.

"What are you going to do now?" Ray asked as Klaus took his wrist away.

"It's time for step two, Ray." Then he snapped Ray's neck, killing him. Klaus turned to Stefan who was watching unemotionally. "You're back."

"Did you doubt me?" Stefan asked.

"Not for a second. I knew you'd pass the test. You still care for your brother, for your old life."

"Nah, I don't care about anything anymore." Athena knew he was lying. You never really stop caring about family even if they backstab you or leave you. But then you never really forget them either. At least, she never did. Even if she wasn't with the rest of her siblings, it was like she could still feel them with her. She could feel Rebekah's comforting words, she could feel Elijah telling her to be strong, and she could feel Kol's smile, telling her to keep her head up.

"You put on a good show, Stefan. I almost believe you. Let's hope, for your brother's sake, he does. You never stop caring about family, do you? But, every time you feed, the blood makes it easier to let go," Klaus said. And in that moment, Athena knew, her brother felt the same way.
