Chapter Three

As the apartment door closes behind her, Vivi tucks her car key into her jacket pocket before she shrugs out the item of clothing. She decided to go home instead of joining her friends at Lizzie's. Because she knows she has a lot to do tomorrow. She will have to get an early start if she wants to get all of her things ready for the move. As much as she would have loved to spend the night partying with her friends, she has to be responsible. She is going to a very prestigious and important college, the most prestigious and important thing that Night City has to offer. Perhaps she can arrange for something if her friends ever have the spare time. She doubts it though. Maybe one day when they have all reached their goals. That would be a good night and a good reason. The apartment is empty, Aizawa is not home. But Vivi didn't think he would be. He spends most evenings on the streets, working. She likely won't see him again until the morning. She hums a little and heads across the room to the bathroom.

......

In the bathroom, Vivi turns on the light before moving to the mirror above the counter. She shakes out her hair and grabs her toiletry bag from the counter to pull out her make-up wipes to get ready for bed. Humming softly to herself to just fill the apartment with some noise that isn't car horns and sirens. She loves this city, but it can be annoying loud. Her iris glows and spins as a new holo-message arrives. She accepts the message and a photo appears in her eye. Dante, Jani, Vance, and Lina all squished together at Lizzie's. Vivi smiles warmly and then saves the photo, because she might even print this one off to keep and then display. She has a stack that she wants to take with her to UA because she knows that she is allowed to decorate her apartment as much as she wants as she will have it for the next four years. It is to be her home. She'll see if she has time tomorrow to go to the corner store to get it printed. She doesn't regret not going out, because she knows she made the responsible choice. And she made the choice that would stop her father from worrying about her. Which is always a benefit.

......

Sitting on her bed, Vivi finishes tying her hair back before she lays down to get comfortable. Her eyes flicker as she scrolls through the radio list to pick one to fall asleep to before landing on one of her favourites; Body Heat. She lets out a breath as she relaxes into her bed, the music flowing through her radioport. Almost as soon as she gets comfortable, she glances at the doorway as she senses someone watching her to find Aizawa. He holds up his hand to wave at her, to get her attention. She blinks and turns off the radio before she sits up.

"You're back early" She points out.

"So are you," He counters, leaning in her doorway. "I saw your friends going into Lizzie's...I was surprised that you weren't with them"

"Well, I want to get an early start in the morning, so much to do before I start at UA" He hums in agreement, but he wouldn't have begrudged her a night out with her friends when he knows that they are all going their separate ways. They have been friends for so many years that it is going to be hard on all of them to follow different paths and follow paths that take them far away from one another.

"I'll let you sleep then" He adds as he leans up from the door. He hums a little and then leaves, closing the door behind him, to allow her to sleep. Vivi lays back in her bed, turning the radio back on.

.....

Some time in the night, Vivi ends up sitting on the window seat of the living room with a book open in her lap as she stares out the window. She couldn't sleep. She got too in her head about leaving her home. Even if she is staying in the same city. It is a big step for her. This apartment was the first place she felt safe after what happened. It is where she has grown into the aspiring hero-merc that she is. Leaving here is a big deal. And leaving Aizawa is too. Part of her feels like she is abandoning him. She knows that he doesn't see it as that, but she still feels it. She lets out a breath and rests the side of her head against the window, her fingers nervously touch the book. She is feeling a lot of things right now. Fear. Nervousness. But excitement all the same. A big change is right around the corner, she should be feeling all of these things.
