Chapter Six

Vivi bounces down the steps of the megabuilding leading to street level. She doesn't need her car to meet with Shota, they'll be sticking close to their accommodation. In Night City, Shota stands out during the day. He wears black and no other colour, whereas everyone else is all bright neon colours. He's standing outside of the megabuilding at the curb, his hands tucked into his trouser pockets as he waits for her. Vivi lets out a breath and then hops down the steps to join him.

"Dad" He turns to look at her as she calls out to him with a smile. Bouncing on toes before she lunges forward to hug him. She curls into his chest, surprising him. He wasn't expecting this reaction. He's not going to complain though. This is a girl that once could barely look at him and others. That was closed off to everyone around her. Consumed by fear and pain. She has come so far. He curls his arms around her and hugs her tightly. She pulls away from him and smiles in greeting.

"What was that for?" He asks her.

"I just...missed you" She admits and then clears her throat. "Felt strange being in an apartment without....you being all over it...and that sounds so gonk" She complains. He chuckles a little and touches her chin, lifting her head.

"My new accommodations are missing some....flourishes too" He assures her. Without all her collected items, his new apartment feels so void of colour and life. And once he had finished unpacking, he missed her being there. He missed the smell of her flowers. He missed the music from her radio. She's had such an impact on his life. And his personal space. "What do you want to eat?" He asks her. She takes a breath and glances across the road at the Kabuki Roundabout. She takes a deep breath, thinking back to the map she found in her apartment, laying out where certain businesses were, ones that would interest them.

"Well, there is Cafe Nova or one of the food stalls or the bar" She turns to Shota and shrugs. "I don't mind" He hums a little and then glances around.

"Let's just walk around and see if anything smells good" He offers and she nods in agreement, tugging on her jacket to pull it closer to her body.

.........

Buck-A-Slice is the street food stall that they settle on for dinner. It's nothing too fancy, just a student budget friendly stall. That is essentially all that Kabuki is. Every store here caters to the students and offers discounts for not only students but faculty members as well. Together, Shota and Vivi sit at a small bistro table not far from the food stall with their take out bowls of pad thai and two take away soda bottles. Vivi taps her nails on the side of her soda bottle as she looks around. Taking in the roundabout. This place is a hive of activity before the school year has even begun. Locals and students that have already moved in. Vivi lets her eyes wander around the people, watching them come and go about their shopping. Shota watches her. Even after so many years with him, she always seems fascinated with everyday life, like she never experienced it as a child. Like normality is strange for her. Despite her friends and her home, it's like it still surprises her, like it is still foreign to her. Shota touches her arm, to draw her attention back to their dinner. She turns to look at him, a soft frown on her face at the interruption.

"Hmm?" She muses and he pats her arm before pulling his hand back to pick up his spoon.

"Have you met any of your classmates yet?" He asks her and she nods.

"A few" She answers and picks up her soda to take a drink from it. He raises an eyebrow for elaboration. She sets the bottle down and shrugs. "My neighbours, so far they seem...." She pauses thinking about Bakugo who already seems like he isn't the friendliest, but Momo and Izuku both seem fine. "Nice" She settles on with a small smile. "I'm sure we'll be fine" She assures him. "It's the first day....we're all stressed moving in. We'll do better introductions tomorrow" She picks up her spoon and fork to dig into her pad thai. "Maybe I can take a cake back" She muses. "Or some cupcakes....everyone loves cake" She leans up a little and tilts her head. "I don't think there is a store here that sells them though" She mutters sadly. Bakery wasn't on the list of stores here. Which is a shame.

"There is one not far from Lizzies" Shota informs her. Vivi hums a little in acknowledgement. It isn't too far away for her to make the trip. She'll likely have to wait until tomorrow though. She kind of just wants to immerse herself in her apartment and get to know it a bit more. To feel comfortable in it.
