Forty-eight
im feeling so bad for the last chapter, but i had to get everyone to believe that he was dead. that was the last time i ever did that, promise. but on the bright side, the story isn't over and guy is alive :)
Her eyes snapped open and she inhaled sharply, but she didn't move from her position. Dried tear streaks stained Linda's cheeks, and she felt more sting her eyes. She took quiet deep breaths, seeing as everyone was still asleep and she didn't want to wake anyone. Especially Guy.
Holy God, where was he?
She started to panic mentally, her wild eyes searching everywhere. But she breathed out a quiet sigh of relief when she felt his arms tighten around her waist, pressing her back to his body.
You're safe.
Linda rolled over, studying her fiancé. He looked so peaceful when he slept. His eyes were closed, but his brow was furrowed, making him look adorable. His chest rose and fell as he breathed, and she put her hand on his heart.
Ba-bump... ba-bump... ba-bump...
He was alive, and he was with her. She smiled softly and traced patterns on his jawline, causing him to mumble in his sleep. That made her chuckle quietly and kiss his stubble, and his arms tightened around her.
"I love you, Guy, so much," she whispered, carefully squirming out of his grasp and leaving her bed in the camp. She stood, raising her arms over her head and stretching. That's when a thought hit her. That was her second death dream in a row, and the first one was partially true. What could happen now?
Shuddering, she grabbed her weapons and placed them on her back, her sword in her sheathe and her knife in her boot. She hopped over the numerous things on the floor, arriving at Tuck's bedchamber.
"Tuck," she whispered, lightly shaking him. "Tuck, wake up."
Tuck groaned, sitting up and looking over his shoulder. "What?" he asked groggily.
"We need to talk."
"Can't it wait?"
"Uh, no."
"Why?"
She didn't speak; all she did was slowly crane her neck at Guy, he of which was still sleeping. Tuck turned so he was facing her, and then looked where she was. He finally got it.
"You had another dream."
She nodded fast. "I did," she responded. "I don't know what it means though, and it scares me." Linda sighed. "Can we talk about this somewhere besides the camp?"
Tuck nodded. Linda sighed and carefully walked to the lift, opening it and sneaking out. She took a deep breath, instantly feeling relaxed. The forest seemed calm today, and the air was crisp. The sun was peeking through the branches, hitting certain spots. She wandered around, sitting at the hill that the outlaws sat on when waiting to snag someone. Tuck joined her a few minutes later and sat next to her on the grass.
"Tell me about your dream," he said.
Linda bit her lip. "It begins in Nottingham Castle in the great hall. There's a war going on between us and a few hundred... villagers... against Vaisey and his huge army."
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, Vaisey?" Tuck asked. "As in your father?"
"No, as in a piece of furniture." She rolled her eyes, running a palm down her face. "Yes, my father. He was alive."
Tuck paused. "And?"
She took a few breaths, rubbing the back of her neck. "And then he was murdered. Sword went through his body, and the poison knife got stuck in his back." She let out a breath. "While we were fighting, Robin was marrying Guy and I."
"Marrying you?" Tuck repeated.
Linda nodded. "Yeah."
Tuck blinked a few times, pursing his lips and nodding. That's when he frowned and tilted his head to the side, narrowing his eyes. He put his hands on her neck, moving her head around as if inspecting her.
"Erm, Tuck, what are you doing?" She asked.
"Why do you have marks on you neck?" he asked.
"What?!" Linda shook her head and swatted Tuck's hands away, rubbing her neck again and feeling the marks. Linda blushed.
Guy, you gave me marks!
"I... uh... I slept wrong," she stammered. "Kinks in the neck."
Tuck didn't look convinced. "They look like–"
"Let's not talk about my neck, shall we?"
"But–"
"Tuck!" she groaned. Linda didn't really feel like explaining what those marks were. If she brought up Guy's, then the gang would kill him. She sighed and ran a palm down her face. "The dreams. What do they mean?"
Tuck cleared his throat, getting back on topic. "The last time you had this type of dream, it was in the same setting, and the same thing was happening. He was meant to die, but he didn't. His accomplice did." Tuck paused. "The dream is a warning that something is going to happen."
"Someone is going to die," Linda whispered. She chuckled bitterly and shook her head.
That's why Meg died, she thought. All because of a stupid dream. Who's next? Who's the next to die because of my dreams?
"But it makes no sense. Can't it be reversed? Can't the event be avoided?"
Tuck sighed. "I don't know," he admitted. "We just have to trust in The Lord."
"Right," Linda breathed. "And hope."
They stayed silent for a few moments, Linda playing with the ring on her finger. She found herself smiling absentmindedly as last night came back to her. She then promised herself that she would protect her future husband as long as she lived.
Just then, she heard hoof beats on the Great North Road. Frowning, she stood up and skipped down the hill, hopping in the middle of the rode. The hoof beats were getting closer, and she loaded her bow. Before she shot, though, she heard her name being called out.
"Linda, don't shoot!"
"Genevieve?" Linda exhaled in relief and grumbled to herself, putting her bow on her back.
Genevieve stopped her horse short, hopping off and approaching her sister. "We've got a problem."
"Yeah, you're not supposed to be here. Isabella would kill you."
"No, no, no, that's not it," she explained. "Look, I asked to travel the forest, and she made me be accompanied by a guard. Oh, and I'm known as Scarlet, by the way."
"Nice," Linda mused. "What's the problem?"
"The guard," Genevieve said. "He's carrying a message, and I don't know what."
"Right." Linda looked behind her. "You get all that?"
Tuck nodded. "We should get the others."
"I call using the frying pan to wake them all up," Genevieve called, rushing up the hill and following Tuck.
During the walk, Genevieve explained the run down of what happened at the castle. "Naturally, she thought us prisoners. She brought us to the great hall, demanding who we were. I said that my name was Scarlet, and I was ambushed by Robin and the others. I quickly said that I knew a lot about you guys, and after a lot of convincing, she let me go. I don't know what happened to Archer, but I suppose I'll find out when I get back."
"You're going back?!" Linda demanded. "Are you nuts?"
"Yes." Genevieve shrugged. "No big deal."
"'No big deal,' she says," Linda scoffed.
Genevieve smirked, turning her head towards Linda. She suddenly frowned. "Hey, what happened to your–"
"I slept wrong, end of story," Linda said fast, picking up the pace.
They finally reached the camp, where everyone was still sleeping. Allan was drooling, Much and John were snoring, and Guy and Robin were sleeping like babies. Kate was the only one that didn't look crazy in her sleep. Genevieve and Linda shared a look. The older woman tossed Genevieve a pan, as well as a spoon. Tuck and Linda covered their ears as Genevieve hit the pan like crazy.
"Wake up, sunshines! You've got a full day of robbing to do! Wake up!"
Much naturally screamed like a girl and flailed around, and John started waving his staff around blindly. Kate shrieked and fell off her bed, giving Genevieve a death look. But Guy and Robin were the funniest. They both shot up with a yell, jumping out of their beds and accidently punching each other in the face, plopping back on the beds. Allan was still asleep... as usual. Linda screamed in his ear.
"GET UP."
Allan snorted and waved his arms everywhere, shooting out of bed and looking around. He jumped and turned around, glaring at Linda.
"Oi!"
The siblings had to contain their laughter. "We need to do that more often."
Guy rubbed his jaw and sat up. He frowned when he saw Genevieve. "What the hell are you doing here?"
"Good to see you, too, Guy."
Robin groaned and sat up, eyes widening when he saw Genevieve. "Where were you?!" he demanded.
"I left with Archer to Nottingham," she replied nonchalantly.
"And apparently she goes by Scarlet now," Linda said. "And she's going to go back."
"What?!"
"Robin, you should know by now that I'm not going to let you coop me up in this camp all day."
Tuck intervened. "Genny was traveling with a protector, not too far from here on the Great North Road. Apparently he's carrying a message."
"Then we've got to get that message," Robin mused.
Genevieve grinned. "I was hoping you would say that."
Robin smirked and slowly hopped over. "Then you hoped right."
"Hello, you've still got an audience here," Allan said.
Robin shrugged, offering his arm to Genevieve. She smiled and took his arm, and they set off. John shook his head, dragging Much with him out of the camp. Kate chuckled and followed, Tuck behind her. Guy approached Linda, and she giggled when she saw his purple jaw.
"Good morning," she greeted, kissing his bruised jaw.
Guy rolled his eyes. "Hi."
"Hey, hate to ruin the moment, but we've got to go," Allan said, pushing Linda out of the gate. She protested, groaning when Allan pulled her along. Guy rolled his eyes and caught up with John.
"You suck," Linda said to Allan. "You can't give me two minutes?"
"I wanted to spend time with my friend," Allan responded with a hand to his heart, soon poking her neck. "And talk about these."
"Allan!" she exclaimed, swatting his hand away. "Why is everyone pointing that out to me?"
"Because they're new."
"I slept wrong."
"Right. Oi, Guy!" Allan called, and Guy turned around. "How bad did you mark her up?"
"Allan!!!"
Guy frowned for a moment, glancing at Linda for a moment before smirking and winking, facing the front again. That proved Allan's suspicions to be true.
"Ah, Linda, you naughty person."
She was tomato red. "I hate you right now."
"Aw, come on. You know you love me."
Linda snorted. "Sure I do."
Allan chuckled. "But seriously, this is a forest, not a bedroom. And also, you guys aren't even married yet."
"Yet."
Allah stopped in front of her. "What are you talking about?" His eyes widened. "You've got to be joking."
She didn't answer, only smiled widely. Allan's jaw dropped, and he let out a few breaths. He looked down and Linda's hand, and she lifted it up. Yup, the engagement ring was there on her finger. Allan kept staring at it.
Linda chuckled. "Well, you can stare at it all day, or–"
"Congratulations," Allan said, cutting her off and hugging her. Linda laughed lightly and hugged him back, smiling.
They broke away and Allan put his arm around her shoulders as they continued to walk again. "I'm coming to the wedding."
"Well, of course. I need someone to walk me down isle."
Allah frowned. "It's not going to be Robin?"
"Chances are he's best man," Linda mused. "Besides, I want it to be you. You've known me longest out of everyone, save Robin."
"But it'd make more sense if John did it."
"Allan," she groaned. "First of all, John and the others don't know about the engagement, just you. Second, I already said that I wanted you to walk me down the isle. You're my best friend, and you also know Guy really well." She pouted. "Pleeeeeease?"
Allan smirked. "Ah, why not."
Linda giggled. "Thank you."
Someone cleared his throat from in front of them. Allan looked forward and saw Guy standing with his arms crossed. Allah paled and awkwardly let go of Linda, stepping to the side. Guy rolled his eyes and approached the two.
"I would like my fiancé back," he said.
Allan coughed, and Linda smacked his back hard. That only made him choke and glare at her.
"That's what friends are for."
Allan hit his chest, nodding and gesturing for him to take her. "She's a pain in the arse anyways."
Linda rolled her eyes in playful annoyance and clung to Guy's arm and pulled him away, saving Allan from the glare he was receiving from Guy.
"He was only kidding," Linda defended as they walked away from everyone and took their position on the hill.
"Maybe, but you know me," Guy responded, sitting and hiding behind a few bushes.
"From the inside out." Linda took a seat next to him, fiddling her fingers. "How are we going to get married, considering everything that's going on?" she asked.
Guy sighed and leaned back, resting on the trunk of a tree. "First, we defeat Isabella."
"No, we're going to just let her win," Linda retorted with a smirk.
Guy chuckled to himself breathlessly. "Defeat Prince John and his probable army, the king comes home, and then we get married."
Linda nodded. "Who will give me away?"
Guy bit his lip, shrugging. "I can ask Robin to, seeing as King Richard might want to kill me when he gets back."
"But he won't," Linda said, stern all of a sudden and taking his larger hand in her small one. "I won't allow it."
Guy's lips rose into a half smile, and he pulled Linda forward, settling her in his lap. She laughed softly, staring into those blue eyes of his.
"I really love you," he whispered, leaning his forehead on hers and lightly kissing her lips. "I love you so much."
"I know," she replied softly, smiling and tracing patterns on his stubble. "I love you, too."
Guy's eyes flicked to her neck, and he smirked. "Allan was right. I did mark you."
Linda raised an eyebrow and then shrugged. "You did say that you were going to mark your 'territory."'
"But you're more than that." His lips brushed against one of her marks, making her shudder. "You're mine."
There it was again, that husky possessive voice. She smirked, her eyes coming to a close when he kissed her neck, gently this time. No nipping, but just the gentle movement of his lips moving up her neck and kissing her marks, as if trying to make them fade.
That was the thing with Guy. Although he wanted her–and he wanted her bad–he didn't want to hurt her or rush it. He didn't want to damage her pride as a woman or herself as a person in general. He loved her too much. It was then where he decided that he would walk to the ends of the Earth for her if it meant keeping her safe. Guy didn't want anything happening to her.
Guy never wanted anything to happen to her.
So he kept kissing Linda's neck, and she threaded her hands through his black hair with a low moan. Guy smirked against her skin, making circles at the small of her back.
"We really........ shouldn't....... be doing this," Linda breathed after another low moan.
Guy kissed her neck one last time before finally claiming her mouth into a kiss, pulling away all too soon. "I suppose your right," he muttered, disappointed to say the least.
She chuckled and positioned herself so she was sitting in front of him, leaning her body on his chest and just resting. His arms came to wrap around her middle, his chin on her forehead. They just sat there comfortably, enjoying finally being in one another's arms peacefully.
That's when Robin came out into the road, lying down and putting his ear on the road. He soon smirked, picking himself up and loading two arrows on his bow. He was drawing back when Genevieve suddenly appeared from behind him, smirking and whispering something in his ear, putting a third arrow on his bow after. Robin simply looked back and grinned, releasing the three arrows. Genevieve's "protector" was riding on the road, and his horse reared backwards. He fell on his butt with a cry, thumping on the ground. Guy and Linda sprinted down the hill, join in on the action.
Linda knelt down and put her knee on the guards chest, ripping his helmet off and putting a knife to his throat. "I'll take that," she announced as she pulled out a rolled up letter, handing it to Tuck.
"Tie him up, then," Robin said with a smirk, waltzing over with Genny riding backwards on another horse, also tied up, But rather than being mad, she was trying her hardest not to laugh. Linda gave Robin a glare.
"She said she wanted to go back," he defended. "Better to do it safely."
Linda rolled her eyes and stood next to Tuck, he of which was skimming over the note. Allan tied up the guard with Guy's help.
"It's from Isabella to Prince John," Tuck mused.
Linda frowned and looked at it. "'My prince, I understand the urgency of your request. Richard returns from the Crusades within the month. Troops loyal to him will be await his return in Loughborough. We must be ready.'"
"Richard?" Allan asked. "King Richard?"
"No, Richard from York," Linda retorted. "Yes, King Richard, Allan.
"The king's coming home," Kate breathed.
Robin frowned and got on Tuck's other side. "Read the rest."
"'You asked for three-hundred men, food, and supplies. I will dispatch them at sunset to join with your Northern forces at Doncaster."
Linda scoffed. "Where in hell is she going to get three-hundred men from?"
"'England will be yours soon.'"
Robin leaned on his bow, frowning. "You give the Sheriff this message," he said as Allan put the guard on the horse backwards, smacking the horse as well as Genevieve's so they could go. "England will never be a slave to Prince John, not while Robin Hood fights for King Richard."
"Robin! They've taken them!"
Everyone jumped at the sound of John's scream, and they ran to the end of the road. John stopped about halfway away, panting and pointing to where they just came from. "They took them!"
"Taken who?" Robin demanded.
John panted, and he looked worried. "I was in Clun," he started. "The Sheriff's soldiers – they've taken all the men."
"How many?" Guy asked loudly.
"I don't know," he breathed, still trying to catch his breath. "Must've been at least one-hundred."
Much came running at the top of the hill from the other side of the road, also looking panicked. "Robin! Same in Nettlestone!" he shouted. "The Sheriff's guard came and just cartered them off! Crops and livestock, too!"
Tuck was doing the math. "One-hundred from Clun, one-hundred from Nettlestone."
"They'll go to Locksley next." Linda's eyes widened. "Oh, my God. Timothy." She pulled Guy pack to the road, whistling loudly. Richie came galloping over in a matter of seconds. She swung on, Guy right behind her.
Robin knew it, too. "Get to Locksley!"
