{54} - Cesca

-~-~-

Cesca coughed awkwardly.

She wished Jerome stayed back, silent. Did he not know what danger he was putting them all in? He was a criminal, after all, so if he was sent to jail then anyone in the same building would go with him. One, because the police here are pricks, and two, they would count as 'accomplices'. She clutched the baby carrier with all of her might, due to her now sweaty hands. "What the hell. . ." Was all Mitch sputtered out before Jerome laughed.

"You've got that one right." Jerome said with a low chuckle.

"Jerome, don't." Cesca called out when Jerome started approaching Mitch. She did not want any trouble.

He looked back at her alarmed face, "What? I just want to talk to an old friend, that's all."

"A-An old friend?" Mitch repeated, stuttering in shock. "Jerome, you're not supposed to be here. . . You're supposed to be-"

"I'm supposed to be rotting in jail, I get it." Jerome said with a sarcastic tone. "But it doesn't look like it, does it?"

"N-No. . . Of course not." Mitch replied lowly.

"Exactly." Jerome grinned. "Just wait a few months, everyone will forget about me and I'll be home free."

Cesca's eyes lowered down to the concrete, "And. . . If someone calls you out?"
The two men turned their attention to her. "N-Not that I will or anything!" Cesca stuttered when she met Jerome's curious eyes. "But, whoever is hiding you, what if they say something?"

"Well then screw them." Jerome answered. "I'll probably end up going after them and leaving the state. That's how it works nowadays."

Mitch glared at him, "Is that how easy it is to you?"

"What?" Jerome looked back at him. "You're not going to tell on me, are you?" He slowly approached Mitch once more. ". . . Are you?" His tone was low and dangerous, which put Cesca on full alert.

"If it's necessary then yes, I will." Mitch said, his head held high. But Cesca caught the anxiety in his eyes.

"Oh really? And you think I will let you?" Jerome asked as he crossed his arms.

"As if you're going to stop me." Mitch murmured as he started to pull out his phone.

Cesca's eyes widened, "Don-"

"If you do that, I won't get to tell you what Rose has to do with this." Jerome interrupted casually.

Mitch froze, ". . . What?"

"You heard me." Jerome grinned. "Rose. I get to tell you what she has to do with me. And all you have to do, is not to tell anyone where I am at."

"And, how do I make sure that you're not lying?" Mitch licked his dry lips nervously.

Jerome laughed, "I have people here to back my information up. Think about it, and anyway, how can you not trust your own best friend?"

Mitch's eyes narrowed, "You escaped from jail, how is that going to make me trust you?"

"That was just a little reckless action done by me as a big 'fuck you' to the world." Jerome answered with a bored tone. "It had nothing to do with you."

Mitch almost looked fully convinced, "Really now? Then tell me, what does she have to do with you?"

"She helped me find my hiding spot right here." Jerome smirked. "And she also helped me capture lil' old Emily for me. I have to admit, I didn't think she was serious but. . ."

"Whoa whoa wait, she did what?" Mitch asked in disbelief.

"You heard me," He gestured over towards Cesca. "And it's true, right Cesca?"

Cesca looked down at her shoes, "I-It's true. . ."

Mitch stared at her for a few seconds until, ". . . So she really did murder Rob. . ."

"Pardon?" Jerome asked.

"I had a suspicion that Rose murdered Rob, and, well, if what you say is true then. . ." He looked at Jerome. "Then I suppose my assumptions are true too."

"Clever boy." Jerome grinned. "Now be careful with what you tell them, or else you'll get us all imprisoned."

Mitch nodded slowly, backing up a bit. "I'll be back, I have to go find someone first before I can go and tell the police anything."

"And, who would that be?" Cesca asked curiously, setting a foot in the orphanage.

"A. . . Friend, of mine. Don't worry about it." Mitch replied casually as he turned around.

"Hey, Hughes?" Jerome called out.

Mitch stopped and turned back, ". . . Yeah?"

"If you say anything about me or mention me in your little talk with the police and it somehow gets me caught. Know that I am not afraid of the government,

.
" And that I will get you back. "
