We all get to the barbecue place at the same time, I hold Lalisa's hand as we get out of the car and wait in the parking lot for everyone else. I then see Lalisa's parents, but she doesn't see them. "Look who made it." I tell her, she turns and gasps. The biggest smile grows on her face and I let go of her hand so she can run to them. I smile to myself to see them hugging her, they have a bouquet of flowers and a bunch of graduation balloons. They even have her Polaroid camera in their hand.
She then waves me over, "Hi my handsome boy!" Lalisa's mother greets me, I smile. "Hello, I'm so happy that the both of you were able to make it." I say. "Of course! We didn't want to miss it for the world." Her father tells me. "I'm so happy that you invited us, we haven't had some nice barbecue in awhile." I begin to blush, "I picked this place because this is the place I brought Lalisa for our first date." I say as I look right at her and her face turns pink.
"Awe Jungkook, that's the cutest thing ever." Her mother screeches, and before we can say anything more, my mother is up to us and talking really loud. Lalisa walks over to me and let's the parents talk, "I didn't know that this is why you picked this place." She says, I look at her and nod. "Don't get all googly please." I hear an annoying voice, "Don't get all googly pleeeeeaaaase." I say in a extremely high pitched and crackly voice. His face drops, "I don't sound like that." He says in an angry tone. "Yeah yeah." I laugh.
"Don't give me sass Kook, I'll throat punch you." He says. "Awe man dude, if you can reach." I see Chaeyoung laughing in back of Jimin and I chuckle. He turns to her quickly, "It's not funny!" He exclaims, she jumps in surprise but still laughs. Throwing her head back and making her laughs over exaggerated just to get under his skin. "Chae! It's not funny!" He shakes her shoulders, causing her hair to fly everywhere. "Dear gosh Jimin, don't break the poor girl." I hear his mother say, I hear Lalisa laughing next to me. I look at her and stare at her while she looks at Jimin and Chae, she then looks at me and she leaves the smile on her face.
"Jungkook! Jungkookie! Come on! Our reservation is in a few minutes." I hear my mother, "Okay." I call to her as I just stare at Lalisa. "Let's go, now." Jimin shoves me to the side, luckily I don't fall and I just look at Jimin with a straight face. "Aye, J-Jungkook, you know I was just kidding." He smiles. I just stare at him, "Okay." He runs ahead of us, I just roll my eyes and Chaeyoung just shrugs. We all turn and follow my mother into the restaurant, I start to look around and I wonder if Taehyung would be coming to the dinner. I hope he does, that would be pretty sad if he was alone today.
I feel a soft hand grab ahold of mine and I hold it back immediately. We walk into the restaurant together, I can't wait to get my grub on. When we get up to the front desk, I begin figure out that Taehyung isn't going to come to the dinner. I should've known, but I wanted to be nice. I really didn't want him to be alone, I want everyone to feel special on a important day... that's all. And I find myself to be a very forgiving person, maybe that's what makes me a target all the time or it makes me vulnerable to most people. Yeah, I know what I am and who I am. I have little feelings and I'm kinder than most, and sadly, I can't hate people.
"So I guess Taehyung isn't coming." I hear my mother say happily. I just stare at her for a very long time, and if Taehyung would've came in at that moment? What would've he thought? I notice everyone has stopped, all the people who were in the front of the group has stopped. I'm so confused. I let go of Lalisa's hand and push my way through everyone, I also stop. "I can tell that my presence here tonight, isn't welcomed." He says. I instantly shake my head, "Taehyung, no." I say quickly. "Oh come on Jungkook, I know when I'm not welcomed. Your own mother doesn't even want me here." I slowly look at my mother who has her hand over her mouth.
I know that she instantly takes back what she's said. "Oh believe me, she didn't mean it." I say as I slowly look back at him. I then look at the table, Taehyung had brought a huge bouquet of flowers and what seems to be a plate of very expensive pastries. If he wasn't a thoughtful person, he wouldn't have done that. "I should go Jungkook." He says. He's about to walk past me when I use all the strength I have to stop him. "Stop, sit down." I tell him. He looks at me then everyone else, I know that his eyes land on Jennie before he looks back at me. "Thanks for the invitation." He says as he turns and he chooses a seat at the long table, I sit right next to him.
Everyone quietly takes their seats at the table, they all look at me as if they're scared or something. Or maybe they're looking at Taehyung, I need to say something this silence is going to kill me. "What are those pastries you brought?" I ask him. "Oh, they're just all different kinds of Tteok. I wasn't sure what you liked so I just got everything." He says to me. "Awe, thanks. You didn't have to do that." I tell him, he looks at me and raises an eyebrow. "No, I think I did kid." I smile, "And those flowers?" I ask another question. I see him bite his tongue, "They're actually for Jennie." He whispers. I nod, "That's nice of you, that's.. the biggest bouquet of flowers I've ever seen." He chuckles, "Could've gone a little bigger you think?" I laugh, "I think that's okay."
He nods quickly, "Okay good." He smiles. "Good." I tell him. In no time conversations start around the table and Taehyung stayed in our conversation well. The only person that was out of the mix was Jennie, she just stayed quiet and ate her food, maybe had some tea and would sit there on her phone. I feel bad, like I want to include her, but I don't need tension between Tae and Jennie.. did I just call him Tae? Ugh, what's the wrong with me? Is he like my friend now, "No way that you know the owner of Gucci!" Chaeyoung exclaims. "Well, yeah, they know my.. parents. So I technically know them." Taehyung smiles.
"You're so lucky, you wear designer all the time don't you?" Chae is really into talking about clothes, I haven't noticed. "Basically yeah, my whole closet it's like.. Versace and all the other really nice designer brands." He explains.
**
I roll my eyes as I look down at my phone, "Stupid designer clothes.." I mumble under my breath. Oh, it's so dumb that Taehyung is the one that beats up Jungkook and they end up having a swell time together. How is that logical? It's so... infuriating! I should be the one next to Jungkook and I should be the one everyone is talking to. Me, Jennie, not Him, Taehyung. He's the one that has anger problems and beats everyone up, I'm the one that's better. The hell? What is wrong with everyone?
"Jennie baby." I hear my mother whisper sweetly, I look up at her with a fake smile. "Yes Eomma?" I ask her in a even sweeter voice. "Why aren't you talking to them?" Oh, them as in the Brady bunch? The breakfast club? The ninja turtles? Geeze, I don't know Eomma, maybe cause I don't want to. "I don't really get what they're talking about, I'm fine." I say. "Jennie, you're the outsider at this table." She mumbles so nobody hears what she's saying. "Are you ashamed that I'm not interacting with them? Why does it matter? I won't be seeing them after Jungkook's going away party." She just stares at me. "I don't need friends who won't stay around Eomma." I tell her as I look back at my phone.
I hear her let out a breath but I can care less, I hear Taehyung talking about all the stuff he does for his dog. I can hear the dog herself and the little rat friend saying, "Aaaaaaawe." When Taehyung shows them a picture of the dog. I roll my eyes and continue to browse on my Instagram, everything is old and it's no fun. Now what am I going to do? This is so lame, my gosh. I just want to go home, not that I thought this dinner would be fun from the beginning anyways. I would've probably done the same thing, I should've bought some cards to play go-fish with myself. Wow, how fun.
"Everyone, since dinner is over, Taehyung brought some really tasty Tteok. Taehyung, since you brought them would you like to pass them out? Or shall we have the youngest serve?" Jungkook looks at his mother and I laugh when his eyes get big. "Oh no Ms Jeon, it's okay, I'll serve the dessert." Taehyung stands up, and my face goes straight. When he picks up the plate he looks straight at me and I quickly look away from him and down at my phone. I don't want him to think anything, because if we look at each other it doesn't mean anything at all. I don't get why I'd want to look at him anyways, I'm not interested.
He walks around the table, purposely avoiding me! Okay! Now that's just cold and childlike to avoid me completely! What a little jerk! Well, I mean, he started with the parents and then he went over to all his dumb new friends. So probably because I'm least important, he let me have the leftovers no one wants. I see him walk up to me and his eyes are set on me the whole damn time. UUUUUUUH! Stop! It's not fair, why is he hot with everything he does? It's sort of frustrating to be around him when all he does is look like a model. Not that I was looking or anything.
"Jennie." He says as he stops right next to me, everyone is looking at us. Yup, this is making matters worse. I feel like my my body is going to turn into slime at any second, and it makes me want to just.. splatter everywhere. I don't look at him as I slowly turn off my phone, then I set it down and lay my temple on the palm of my hand as I slowly look at him. I notice him stiffen up a bit as I look up at him and make complete eye contact. "I wanted to know if you wanted s-some pastries." He tells me as he shows me the plate that still had a lot of sweets on it.
I sit up straight and look down at the plate, wondering and tapping my chin to make a decision on whether or not I want to pick from one side or the other. There are some with really pretty colors and others with nice decorations. I decide to pick several like everyone else, I then look up at him and smile. "Thank you." I say before I turn away from him completely and look down at my pastries. He walks away and everyone goes back into their little groups and talk. I mean... I don't like him or anything, I just like to tease.
**
Jungkook was definitely right about Taehyung, he's actually a really sweet person and is very kind. Not to forget that he has a really cute dog. It makes me grateful that Jungkook listened to his heart and invited Taehyung even when all of us thought it was a bad idea. I know Jungkook is a different kind of human, or he may not be human at all. That would make more sense, if Jungkook was actually something that was more angelic. Or if he actually was an Angel, what am I saying? He is, he's a perfect representation of an Angel.
He has faith in the times when people lose it or don't have it at all. All this time he had faith that we would all understand that Taehyung is a good person and that sometimes good people do not so very good things. Now thanks to Jungkook, and the person that I met this morning at the front of the school, I was able to now recognize the good in Taehyung. He was once like me, a teenager that had parents who worked all the time. Having parents that basically forgot they had a child, but luckily for me my parents snapped out of it and opened their eyes. They saw that I was here, and they're different now. Taehyung and I were very much alike, but I hope we can be alike again in terms that his parents realize that he's more than what they want him to be and that he's their child.
Now more than ever I want Taehyung to be able to experience actual parents, or at least a feeling. I'm sure this dinner we're having is making him feel really nice. That's all I want for a new friend. I look down at the pastries on my plate, they're different than the ones Jungkook picked. Uuuuu, I want to try his. I wrap my arms around his bicep and hold his hand, he was just laughing at what Taehyung was saying. He finally looks at me and I set my chin on his shoulder. He uses his thumb and pointer finger to squish the tip of my nose, before he looks me in my eyes. He then chuckles, "You want something from me, don't you?" He asks.
"I want to try your pastries, they're different than mine." I try aegyo. He smiles and looks at our plates, "Only if I can try yours." I nod quickly in agreement. I set a little kiss on his cheek and let go of him. He picks up one of mine and I stare at him as he takes a bite, "Mmmm." He nods as he chews his piece in his mouth. He's about to set the other half down when I grab his wrist and his eyes look straight at my mouth. I smile as I direct his hand to bring the pastry to my mouth. My face heats up, I never expected for me to do this. I open my mouth and bite half of my half, he still holds it for me. I chew it and nod in agreement as I him as well, "Mmmm!" I look at Jungkook.
He just smiles as he waits for me to finish the piece in my mouth and take the other piece from his fingers. When I'm ready to eat the other piece, he gently presses it into my mouth. When it's gone from his fingers I grin as I chew, meeting his eyes. I bat my eyelashes and he chuckles, I shield my mouth with my hand. "Do you want to kiss me Kook?" I whisper to him. He raises an eyebrow and smiles, "If we weren't at a dinner table, yeah." He whispers back. "Why don't you just get married already?" I hear in my ear, almost making me choke on my pastry. "Chaaaaaeeeee." I look at her and whine, she smiles. "I was watching you two the whole time, just make out already. It's pretty clear you guys haven't kissed in a while and it's bothering you two. I feel the tension."
My eyes widen, "No, there's no tension." I tell her. She does her version of the Lenny face and wiggles her eyebrows. When I'm finally done chewing my food and it's all gone, I use my hands to grab her face. "Stop, you're not making this situation any easier." I whisper. "That's the point fam." She chuckles. I laugh and shake my head as I push her forehead and her body bumps into Jimin. He was too busy eating his pastries, Chae chuckles as she grabs his stuffed face. "You're like a widdle baaaabeeeeyy." She says to him, he instantly frowns. I chuckle and turn back to my plate, and I look down along the table at my parents who look like they're having a great time talking to Jungkook's mother.
Today is such a great day, then I look down the other end of the table and I see Jennie all by herself. Mm. I don't know what to do about her, I don't think that there's much I can do. She hates my soul and she'd probably like it better if I just didn't say anything to her. "This one is good." I hear next to me and Jungkook shows me the piece that's mine from one of his pastries. This time I take it from his fingers and I put the little piece in my mouth and chew. I nod quickly and look at him, already forgetting that Jennie is all by herself. You can't really include someone who doesn't want to be included then, right?
Everyone eats their delicious pastries and as we're all getting ready to leave, I take a few pictures with everyone.. I don't take any with Jennie. In fact, the only one who does is Jungkook. I take several with my Polaroid and then everyone heads out of the restaurant together. I watch Taehyung as he lags behind, maybe he's thinking about what he's going to tell Jennie when he hands her the bouquet. I hope she'll accept them, they're really nice and it was thoughtful of him to think of her when he bought them.
**
I feel like I'm going to have explosive diarrhea, but then I also feel like I really have to do this, even if it doesn't work. I just hope that she accepts them. The really good thing that came out of tonight is that I made some new friends that I will hopefully get to know in the long run. That in the future we will all be friends, including Jennie. That's all I want, I need friends.
"Hey, Taehyung." I look up at Jungkook. "Hey." I respond as I was staring down at the flowers. "I want you to come to my going away party that will be held at my house the night before I leave to college." He tells me. "Really?" I ask. "Of course, you're really cool and I think it will be more enjoyable if more people are there since it will just be all of us who were here today. It would only be right if you came." He smiles. "Dang Jungkook, you make me feel really bad for beating you up. You're so nice I don't know how to repay for you tonight and your invitation. It's honestly been such a good night." I confess.
"Come to my party." He chuckles. I chuckle also and nod. "Okay.", "And don't think about it this time okay? Just come on by, you know where I live." I smile, "Fine." I say, "Good, is an Uber coming for you?" He looks behind me. "Oh, yeah. I need to call one, it's nothing to worry about.", "Okay, well be careful. And thanks again for coming tonight.", "Of course." He turns and meets up with Lalisa and they walk to the car of her parents, before I miss my chance, I walk up to Jennie and I set a gentle hand on her shoulder. "Jennie." I start. She turns to me, she seems really calm. Maybe because she doesn't want to start a scene, yeah, that seems more like what she would do. She probably hates that I talking to her.
"I got these for you, to congratulate you on graduating." I say as calm as I can without stuttering like earlier with dessert. "Taehyung.." She starts off with a tone that tells me that she's going to deny the bouquet. "Look, Jennie. This is a token of my apology, because I really am sorry for what I did. For the past few days I had been crazy and I didn't know what I was doing, and I realize that I was wrong. And that everyone has forgiven me of my mistakes but you." She just stares at me. "I just.. want to give these to you as a friend, nothing more. Just to congratulate you from a graduate to a graduate." I explain.
Though, I know it my heart it's going to take a while before I believe that I'm giving her these flowers as a friend. But, from the looks of her face, I know that she wants nothing to do with me. Even if Jungkook forgave me, even if all the mothers like me now, even if I bought her these flowers and said I'm sorry. She doesn't want me, not even just a little bit. She looks at the bouquet of different flowers, there's a single white rose in the middle of the bouquet that stands out from the reds, pinks and yellows. "I'm flattered." Is all she says. "Jennie, lets go. It's gotten really late." I hear her mother. I clench my jaw still hoping that she'll take them.
"I have to go Taehyung." She tells me the obvious, she knows I heard. I have ears, "These flowers are for you." I tell her sternly. "Taehyung.. I don't-", "Take them, please." I interrupt her. She looks at them again, not hesitating this time. She makes sure to avoid my hand and takes them from me. "Good night." Is all she says to me as she turns and walks away from me towards the car as everyone is saying their last goodbyes. I even get a few waves and I wave back, before I call an Uber.
I really don't know much about the future, or what it holds. But I sure hope that it's nice, like tonight.
**
"Of course! We'll have to go and get some breakfast for a few mornings before I leave." I tell Jennie's mother. She smiles and nods from the porch, Jennie had already went inside. "Okay my love, see you." She waves. "Bye." I wave and my mother and I walk up to the house. "I'd like to think that today was pretty successful, I mean. Besides the fact that a certain someone was still distant from everyone else, but aye.. that's not our problem right?" My mother asks. "I wanted her to be more involved." I tell her. "I know, but you can't always get what you want baby." She tells me. "And Taehyung is such a sweetheart." She adds.
I smile, "I told you we was a good person Eomma." She nods, "I'd have to listen to you more often, you're very-", "Jungkook." I hear behind me. I freeze, and so does my mother. My mother doesn't turn around, but I do.
