The Sacrifice To Last A Lifetime

━━━━━━━━

I understand some of you may think this chapter is "unrealistic", but I apologize. I couldn't think of anything else.

━━━━━━━━

WHY WAS SHE DOING THIS? How could she just go with this? It was selfish and she hated it. Melody didn't know what to do though. Help Pan, her only blood family? Or help the people she's grown to care about and call family? All that she wished for, all that she wanted, was a family. All she wanted was her family to accept her dad and let him live normally, not hate him, not want to kill him for what he's done.

Melody hated that she had chosen him over them. But in the end, she had to choose. And then at the same time, she hated that there were sides. There was the people against Pan and then the people with Pan.

It almost made her want to shout and cry. Why couldn't they all just get a happy ending? Why couldn't they all just be a family?

---

Night had fallen and Melody, Pan, and Felix were walking toward the wishing well, which was where Pan was going to start the curse.

"You never cease to amaze me, Peter. Outwitting the Evil Queen in less than a day. It's impressive," Felix complimented.

Melody smirked. The two were still shocked at the fact that they liked each other and were still awkwardly standing next to each other.

"She loves the boy. That makes her weak," Pan responded. Melody rolled her eyes and sighed. They reached the wishing well, she leaned against it. "This is it. This is where we'll cast it. The ingredients?"

Felix handed him a bag and Melody pulled out a strand of her hair, handing it to Felix who put it in the potion bottle, which made the substance glow blue. He then handed it to Pan who took it along with the other ingredients.

"When it's done, what will we do?" Felix asked Pan.

"We will live as the family we wanted to be," he told them. He looked at Melody and Felix with a smile. "The three of us."

Melody smiled slightly and watched as Pan continued to set out the ingredients, dropping them into the well.

Soon, Pan had gotten all of the ingredients and then took the potion with Melody strand of hair. He pulled out a heart and the teen pursed her lip.

"So um... where did you get the heart?" she asked.

"No worries Melody, I got it from one of the unloyal Lost Boys."

She gaped. "Right, because that's supposed to make me feel so much better."

He flashed her a smile and poured the potion over the heart, making it glow blue as well. Then he dropped it into the well. Pan moved back and Melody raised an eyebrow.

"That's it?"

He nodded. "That's it."

Then a green thick smoke rapidly rose to the surface, causing Melody to jump back.

"How fitting," Melody snickered, referring to the fact that the smoke was green.

Pan glared and Felix chuckled.

"What's wrong with green?" Pan questioned.

The teen shrugged. "It's my least favorite color." He led the two of them away. "And now, we wait."

---

David, Hook, and Neal arrived at the pawnshop where Emma and Regina were sitting with Henry.

"She's back. The Blue Fairy. She gave us the wand," David told them.

"Do we need anything else?" Emma asked Gold.

"Only one more item," he said, then opened a cabinet and took out a bracelet.

"What is that?" Mary Margaret asked.

"This is one of the only useful things that I managed to pilfer from Greg and Tamara before they left for Neverland. It renders anyone with magic utterly powerless," Gold explained.

"I haven't forgotten about all that, by the way," Regina spoke up disdainfully.

He ignored her and went over to Henry. "Let me see your wrist, Henry." Gold put the black cuff on his wrist and Henry looked at it confused. "I want to make sure when my dear old Dad awakes that he is weakened. This will lock his powers."

"So what happens now?" Henry asked.

"I enact the spell, you fall into a deep sleep and when you awake, you're back in your own body."

"Then you hang onto that scroll, find Melody, and come find us as fast as you can," Regina told him.

Neal handed the wand to Gold and Henry sighed, looking guilty.

"I gave my heart to Pan. I thought I was being a hero. I'm sorry," he apologized.

"You're not the one who needs to be sorry. Pan does," David said softly.

"It's time," Gold told him.

Henry lied on the cot and then Gold waved the wand over him, casting the spell. Pan's body began to convulse and everyone watched with worried looks.

---

They had just reached the edge of the forest when Pan stopped, he grunted and pain and fell to the floor. Melody and Felix stopped and fell next to him.

"Peter?" Felix called in worry.

"Papa?" Melody called out. Tears filled her eyes and she looked at the second in command with concern. "What's happening?"

Felix shook his head. "They're getting his spirit out of Henry's body."

All of a sudden, Pan stopped moving. Melody got up and grabbed Felix's hand, tugging him.

"We need to go."

"No, we can't leave Pan," he told her.

"If you're right, then Henry is going to wake back up in his body." She sighed. "We need to go before he wakes up."

Felix looked back at Pan concerned but then nodded, pulling the teen with him as they ran off.

---

The group frantically followed Granny as they tried to find Henry.

"I've got a scent. He's nearby," Granny revealed as they followed.

"Where?" Emma asked.

All of a sudden, Henry - now back in his body - ran toward them.

"It's me, it's me! It worked!" Henry yelled.

They saw him but then realized Melody was nowhere in sight.

"Henry, where's Melody?" Regina asked.

He took a deep breath from the running he just did. "I don't know. When I woke up she wasn't there. Neither was Felix."

They all exchanged looks of worry. If Melody wasn't with Henry.

Then where was she?

---

Gold tried not to think how the conversation would go. It would be the first time he'd be talking to Pan since he learned the truth. The Dark One still couldn't believe it. He was destined to kill his sister, though they weren't even blood-related. It crushed him. And here he tried so hard to get his sister's forgiveness to only realize that it didn't matter.

Pan opened his eyes and Gold prepared himself by making sure that the sword was still within his reach.

"Hello, Papa," Gold greeted.

"Thought you'd kill me in my sleep, laddie." He sat up. "I guess you changed your-" Pan stopped when he saw the black cuff on his wrist. He looked at Gold. "Oh, wait. I see." He scoffed. "You've taken away my magic. That's why it's so easy for you to strut around and pose now, isn't it?"

The immortal boy tried to not let his worry for his daughter or his second in command show. He imagined that the two were probably on their way.

"I wanted to talk to you. I wanted you to see me and think about what you've done," Gold said.

Pan grinned. "Of course. To look at the thing I was forced to raise. The thing that was destined to kill my daughter! I remember looking at you... the littlest babe. Helpless and all mine. Those big, big eyes full of tears... pulling at me... pulling away my name, my money, my time. Pulling away any hope of making my life into something better for myself. And pulling away any hope I had of raising my daughter with a mother. He pointed accusingly at Gold. "This pink, naked, squirming little larva that wanted to eat my dreams alive and never stop! How old are you now? A couple hundred? Can't Melody and I be free of you?"

---

Flashback

"Keep pushing," the older women said to another who was painfully giving birth to her baby girl.

Malcolm stood by, holding his wife's hand lovingly. "Come on, love."

With one last push, the women gave birth to her beautiful daughter. The baby cried and the older women wrapped the child up in a white blanket.

"Would you like to hold her?" the older women asked the slightly younger one with a smile.

The mother nodded with a smile, reaching toward her daughter. Fiona held her daughter and smiled.

"She's perfect," she sighed.

Malcolm smiled and kissed his wife's head. "She's beautiful as well."

Fiona laughed in agreement. The other women in the room smiled.

"Wha's her name?" she asked them.

Fiona looked at Malcolm. "Melody. Her name's Melody."

All of a sudden, the window opened and in came a fairy. The fairy entered the room and stopped, becoming regular-sized. She wore a sad smile and approached the two.

"A fairy?" Fiona questioned. "Is something wrong?"

The Blue Fairy sighed. "I'm sorry. But there is some news that I have to tell the both of you."

And that was when Fiona and Malcolm found out about their daughter's curse. Fiona started to sob as she held her baby close to her. Malcolm was in shock. Their firstborn child was cursed.

End Of Flashback

---

"Oh, you will be," Gold said, then he picked up a sword. "In death."

"Then, one last lesson, son," Pan said, putting a vile tone of the word 'son'. "Never make a cage you can't get out of." He ripped off the bracelet from his own wrist and Gold stepped back, shocked. "I made this cuff, you know. Doesn't work on me. But on you..." Pan trailed off and then made it materialize on Gold's wrist. Pan stood up. "Down, boy."

He magically flung Gold backward into a shelf. And Pan walked to him with a nasty glare.

"Let's see how you do without magic," Pan hissed.

Gold crawled toward the fallen sword, but Pan kicked him away from it.

"I've come too far for this. For them," Gold said frantically.

"For your son? No. It's too late. Soon, that fine green smoke will fill their lungs and fog their brains. And you won't do a thing to stop me. Do you know why? Because without magic, you are right back to where you started. The village coward. And then Melody, Felix, and I can finally be a family. Without you in the way," Pan sneered, then he left the shop.

There was no way he was going to let them beat him now.

---

Pan arrived at the Main Street just as Henry squeezed his mom's hand comfortingly. Then he flicked his hand, making the scroll appear in his hand.

"No, he won't," Pan called, making the group turn to him.

They back away and Hook went to warn them.

"He has the-"

He is cut off as Pan bound everyone in place with a freezing spell. Pan held up the scroll with a smirk.

"Curse? That I do," he announced. "Look at you all. A captive audience. I could play with you like a pack of dolls, couldn't I? I think I'll start with these two." He walked over to Belle and Neal. "Hmm. You both look so adorable. Hard to tell who to kill first." He shifted his gaze between both of them. Then he pointed to Neal. "You. You first."

But before he could, Gold tugged him away from them.

"Stay away from them," Gold demanded in a threatening tone.

"How about this? The worm has teeth." Pan spoke in a mocking tone. "You're here to protect your "loved ones"."

"I'm not gonna let you touch either one of them."

"Oh, I'd like to see that."

"Oh, you will. Because I have a job to finish, and I have to do whatever it takes. No loopholes. And what needs to be done has a price. A price I'm finally willing to pay."

Gold then looked at Neal and said, "I used the curse to find you, Bae, to tell you I made a mistake. To make sure you had a chance at happiness." Pan openly laughed at his words. "And that happiness is possible. Just not with me. I accept that."

"Pretty, pretty words," Pan taunted.

"I love you, Bae. And I love you, Belle, you made me stronger."

"But still no magic."

Gold turned to him. "Oh, but I don't need it. You see, you may have lost your shadow, but there's one thing you're forgetting."

"And what's that?"

"So have I. I sent it away with something to hide," Gold said triumphantly.

He raised his hand into the air; summoning his shadow back with the dagger. Gold grabbed the dagger from the shadow and then grabbed Pan, holding him against him, raising the dagger.

"What are you doing?!" Pan yelled, struggling.

"You see, the only way for you to die is if we both die. And now... now, I am ready," Gold said.

He lifted the dagger ready to stab Pan when a voice screamed.

"Papa no!"

Melody, who had run all the way to Main Street with no breaks, raised her hands and Gold soared back, causing the dagger to fall to the floor. Felix came running up behind her, looking concerned for both the young girl and Pan.

Pan looked over at his daughter and Melody looked at the scene with tears running down her cheeks. He saw Felix and nodded at them.

"Thank you, Melody. Now I can-"

"No," Melody interrupted. firmly.

Pan looked at her in disbelief. "No? What do you mean 'No'?"

"There has to be a way I can save you and stop the curse. You can stay in StoryBrooke and we can be a family. Like we said."

Pan took a step toward her, casting a glance at Felix.

"That's not possible, princess. And even if it was, these people wouldn't let us. They hurt you, they'd hurt me." He put a hand on her cheek, smiling sadly.

"There has to be another way," she said as a tear fell down her cheek.

"I'm afraid there isn't."

"Then I'll make one. I just have to believe."

Melody took a step back a raised her hand up.

"Melody!" Pan yelled fearfully.

The teen didn't listen. She took a deep breath and thought. Why am I doing this? To get my family our happy ending. Who am I saving? My family. A bright white light shone and it pressed out and through the town. The StoryBrooke gang that was frozen was unfrozen and Pan put his hand on his chest, feeling a change. His magic was back and felt stronger than ever, and, he no longer felt like the oxygen was being sucked out of him.

The young girl in front of him put her hand down and collapsed to the ground.

"Melody!" they all screamed.

Everyone ran over to the fallen girl, not even caring Pan was still alive and was right next to them.

"Melody. Come on, princess," Pan called with tears in his eyes. "Don't leave me."

Everyone was shocked as Pan pulled his daughter into his lap and sobbed. Everyone had tears in their eyes and Emma, Regina, Mary Margaret, Henry, Gold, and Belle started crying. Neal, David, Felix, and Hook looked like they were about to burst into tears.

Pan continued to sob and held his daughter's body close to him.

He failed
