warning: more homophobic assholes
Luna was more than unhappy with Cheryl but she didn't bother being angry with her, it wasn't her fault, really, was it?
Peer pressure had gotten the best of her, and she had succumbed. If she hadn't, who knows what would have happened to her reputation?
But was her reputation more important than her girlfriend's happiness?
Cheryl felt horrible as she sat outside the dressing room, waiting for Luna to walk out.
She was going shopping with her, and Luna had enough money to buy something.
For some reason, she had gone to the dress store but told her to wait for her outside.
Cheryl couldn't imagine Luna in a dress, it was already rare that she'd wear a skirt, so she didn't know what to expect.
She turned around when she heard her name, only for her mouth to be left agape.
Luna was there in a suit, her hair pulled into a top bun, "I'll my hair better, you know?"
It was a black and white traditional suit jacket and dress shirt. It fit her perfectly and Cheryl couldn't be more proud.
"You want to wear this to Homecoming?" Cheryl asked.
Luna nodded slowly.
"This is amazing," Cheryl smiled, kissing the girl in front of her on the lips.
"Stop, we're in public," Luna shook her head, smiling.
"So? Straight couples get to do it," Cheryl frowned.
"It's not a matter of 'straight and gay', it's just gross," Luna shrugged and Cheryl groaned.
"You have a point."
Cheryl had started talking but it was kind of tuned out as Luna started to notice the looks of borderline disgust she was getting from the other patrons of the store.
"Excuse me?" she turned to see a worker. "do you want to buy that suit?"
"Yes," Cheryl stepped in, standing up. "she does."
"Well, um, okay," the worker seemed confused and sort of repulsed as Cheryl held Luna's hand.
She moved it away and crossed her arms, Cheryl looking at her from the side in confusion and hurt.
"On second thought, I'd like to keep looking," Luna smiled.
The retail worker, with a name tag that read Farah, walked away with a smile and shake of the head.
"What the hell was that?" Cheryl asked. "you really wanted that suit?"
Luna looked around again at the people looking at her in the store and she suddenly felt extremely self-conscious.
"Maybe we shouldn't go to Homecoming..."
"What, why?"
"I mean, me, you have to go, you know?"
Cheryl shook her head, "Are you kidding me? Please come, you were so excited and now you don't want to go? I don't want you to do something you'll regret."
"It's for my safety, Cheryl," Luna tried to explain. "right now I don't even want to go to school, let alone shop."
Cheryl furrowed her brows and looked around, suddenly noticing all the lingering eyes, whispers, and gestures towards them that were happening.
She looked at Luna again, "Hey-"
"I don't think we should do this anymore."
Cheryl never knew that 8 words could actually shatter her heart into a million pieces. Or maybe she was hurt because of the person it was coming from.
"We can make this work..." Cheryl tried to take Luna's hand again but she backed up.
"No, I'm sorry," Luna shook her head. "this entire relationship has been us putting each other's happiness before our own. And that was good, to a degree."
Cheryl started to cry, "No, no, no, this can't be happening."
"I think we need time to focus on our health first, get in the right state of mind?" Luna tried to explain. "I think I have to learn more about me. I have to love myself before anyone else, you know? I need to just straighten things out."
Cheryl snorted with watery eyes, "Ironic."
Luna smiled sadly, kissing Cheryl on the cheek, "I'm so sorry."
"I would've risked everything for you," the redhead before Luna was near sobbing at this point. "but I guess that means nothing."
And now she was angry.
"It does!"
"Then why are you breaking up with me?"
"I told you why!"
"No! You have me a bullshit answer because you're too afraid of the criticism! You know what, Luna? What you are is a little bitch, you're a pussy, and you know it. So go ahead and try to convince yourself that's why you're breaking up with the person you said that you loved. The person who you found yourself in. Screw you, Luna."
With that, Cheryl stormed out of the place and left Luna standing there in a now tear drenched suit.
The retail worker came by again, "You're gonna have to-"
"I know."

"You're a dumbass," Betty shook her head.
"Honestly," Archie nodded.
"Why would you do that?" Jughead asked.
"That was shitty," Veronica frowned.
"Oh my god," Kevin shook his head.
"Thanks for the support guys," Luna scoffed.
"Well, it was a dumb thing to do!" Betty put her hands up in defense.
"I thought you loved her?" Jughead asked.
"With all due respect, guys," Kevin interrupted. "you have no idea what she's going through."
"You have a point," Archie nodded.
"It's not easy to put up with this much hate in this world, and having a public, non-straight relationship is kind of hard, especially in front of a bunch of ignorant teenagers," Kevin explained. "I should know."
"Thank you, Kev," Luna sighed.
"I understand a bit of what you're saying," Veronica added. "I mean, I'm not white, and sometimes I get racially profiled. Sometimes people call me some names that I don't appreciate or use words I don't appreciate, and it's hard. I'm proud to be who I am, but I don't like the fact that to be who I am, my life has to be at risk every day."
"God bless, some people who understand," Luna frowned, stuffing another tablespoon of Ben and Jerry's into her mouth.
"Isn't this like carton number 3?" Archie asked.
"Nobody asked you, Justin Gingerlake," Luna growled, cradling her container of ice cream.
Archie shook his head and listened as Jughead continued the conversation.
They all sat in Luna's living room on the floor as the TV in front of them played a Netflix show none of them were really paying attention to.
Betty and Jughead lay leaning against the front of the couch to the left side of the room under a blanket.
Luna was on a couch facing the TV, a blanket of her own on her legs which were placed on Kevin's lap, the blanket slightly warming his legs.
Archie and Veronica sat below them, sharing a blanket of their own.
They all passed the popcorn between them, Luna never bothering to eat it because, well, she had her ice cream.
"They were really staring at you, though?" Archie scoffed. "assholes. I thought this town was better."
"To be fair we went out of town," Luna pointed her big spoon at him. "but yeah. I guess a lot of people say they're okay with things they're really not okay with."
Betty scoffed, "That's so not okay. But you shouldn't have run away! You know what, you bought the suit-"
"Because I cried all over it."
"Doesn't matter," Veronica joined in. "you bought the suit, you're coming to Homecoming. Haha, that sounded funny."
"No, I'm not," Luna yelled, her voice sounding hoarse.
"Save that voice for Homecoming," Kevin laughed.
Luna kicked him and he stopped laughing to clutch his bruised skin and make a pained face.
"You promised Dad," Jughead reminded her and for a while, everyone in the room (including Jughead) smiled to themselves that Jughead had referred to FP as not only Dad but their dad.
Luna rolled her eyes, "I don't care. Well, I do, wait, I didn't promise him anything. I'm not going."
"Come on," Kevin tried to persuade her. "what else are you going to do tomorrow."
"Look-"
Veronica cut her off, "No, you 'look'. You cannot live your life in fear. And I sort of get why you broke up with Cheryl now. You couldn't base your life on someone else at the moment when you needed to figure out who you were first. But that doesn't give you an excuse to miss out on an experience that could define your future. You might be scared of the criticism, you might not be, but wherever you go you will be criticized. Whether for your clothes or your sexuality, and you need to get used to that now. High school kids suck dick. Accept that."
There was a moment of silence.
"Veronica Lodge, 2020," Kevin said and everyone clapped.
"Jesus, V, I didn't need a lecture," Luna laughed. "but I guess I could go to Homecoming."
"Yes!"Jughead rejoiced. "I'm not going into the pits of hell alone."
"I'm not going because I want to," Luna started. "I'm going because I'm afraid what you might do to me if I don't."
