twenty | INTERROGATION

warning: sensitive topics

Wow, did the day fly by fast for Luna, and it was torture.

The things she had to do after school were going to kill her very slowly and painfully.

First of all, she had to ask Ophelia (who she had called mom) if Cheryl could stay the night.

Then, she had to talk to FP with Jughead about Anthony.

She had also decided to drop by the Sheriff's to see if she could get Anthony's cause of death.

Not to mention she had to finish her homework.

Her long, hard, homework.

Hey, get your mind out of the gutter.

But anyways, Luna had to meet up with Jughead after school to drop by FP's.

And the last bell had just rung.

Luna got up to her locker, getting the things she needed and putting them into her bag before walking to her half-brother's locker.

"You ready, Juggie?" Luna asked.

"Yeah, I'm ready," Jughead sighed.

They had started walking in silence for the most part when Jughead decided to strike up an actual conversation.

"So, are you nervous?"

"Why wouldn't I be?" Luna laughed, putting her hands into her pockets.

"I think I'm afraid of getting answers," Jughead chuckled.

"Ones you don't like? Or ones you do like?" Luna asked.

Jughead scoffed, "What are you, a psychologist now?"

"Maybe," Luna shook her head. "but I understand, you're afraid to forgive him. To let him into your heart again..."

"He's broken it more than once. I'm hoping he was serious about cleaning up, though," Jughead shivered, but it wasn't from the cold.

"He told you he was 'gonna clean up?" Luna asked.

"He's not quitting the Serpents, I guess it's a family thing," Jughead smiled at Luna. "but he's 'gonna start trying."

The two eventually arrived at the trailer that FP resided, both hesitating to knock.

Eventually, Luna stepped up and knocked on the door, waiting for what felt like agonizing hours for him to open it, finally.

The door opened to see an FP who looked like a better version of himself, he looked, younger?

Was that the right word to use?

He just looked, at ease.

"Luna," he smiled.

"And Jughead," Juggie raised his hand and popped out from behind Luna.

"Both of you," he laughed. "all we need now is Jellybean, eh?"

Luna shook her head, smiling.

"Well, do you guys want to come in, or.."

"Yes, please!" Jughead said first, causing Luna to scoff with a smile.

They both walked inside, Jughead slightly taken aback by the state of his home.

"Wow," Jughead said.

It was clean, no beer bottles, no stains, his clothes were picked up, the whole shebang.

"I told you I'd clean up," FP smiled. "anyways, what gives me the pleasure of seeing both my kids?"

"We'd, um, like to ask you a few questions?" Luna asked.

And when Luna saw FP's smile falter, a piece of her broke inside.

She felt like she had offended him, or brought his hopes down, which is what he didn't want to do.

He probably was happy to see his kids just casually visit him.

Only to find they were here to interrogate him.

"Well, take a seat, make yourself at home," FP gestured to the couches, which they all took a seat on.

Jughead was first to speak, "So, we all know about you, and Luna, and Anthony, and the Serpents."

FP nodded, "Figured you'd eventually talk about that."

There was an awkward silence.

"Well, ask on!" he smiled.

Luna spoke first this time, "Well, it's true you and Anthony and Jason had a drug deal going on right?"

FP made a face, "Sort of."

"Jason needed money to run away, so we made a mutually beneficial deal. We – The Serpents –gave him drugs to sell, and he got his money."

"So why sort of?" Jughead asked.

"Anthony wasn't part of that deal, but that's how he met Jason," FP explained.

"So why were you and Anthony fighting our last day here?" Luna asked.

"Well, Anthony insisted for me to call off the deal with Jason, saying it wasn't going to end well, sadly, I refused," FP cleared his throat awkwardly. "and then Anthony said he wouldn't be associated with a killer, then he left with you."

More silence.

"You aren't a killer, FP, you didn't know," Luna spoke.

"I still feel partly responsible, I could have prevented his death," FP sighed.

"It's not really your fault," Jughead chimed in.

FP shrugged, "Doesn't feel that way."

Even more agonizing silence.

"But thank you for the efforts," FP smiled, causing one to arise on Luna's own face and consequently, Jughead's.

"Well, thank you," Luna smiled, getting up.

Jughead started to also, only to be stopped by FP, "But I, actually, Jughead could I talk to you?"

"'Course," Jughead smiled, bidding farewell to Luna.

Luna gave FP a wave of her own before walking out of the house.

Next stop, Sheriff's station.

Luna made her way to the place, knowing the fate of her brother already.

I mean, what other reason could they have conjured up that would explain why Anthony's body was hidden among the trees beside murder?

She walked through the doors, eventually coaxing Sheriff Keller into letting her see the coroner's reports.

Luna furrowed her brows, this can't be right.

They had the cause of death and they had the toxicology reports, but everything seemed to be off.

Luna looked over her shoulder before pulling out her phone to take a picture of the reports.

She gave them back to Sheriff Keller who wished her a painless grieving.

Luna said her goodbye's, thanking Kevin's father once again before walking outside.

It was getting dark by now, believe it or not, it took a long time to walk across town and it was going to take a long time to walk back.

As she walked, Luna started to feel a bit uneasy.

She decided to kill two birds with one stone and call Ophelia.

The phone rung three times before her voice was heard on the other line saying, 'hello'.

"Hey, mom, I was wondering if my friend could stay over tonight?"

"Y-, wait, what?"

"My friend, could she stay over tonight?" Luna scoffed. "please don't tease me about-"

"You called me mom."

Luna stopped in her tracks, realizing now what she had said and she could now comprehend that Ophelia's voice had cracked.

She also now had to start admitting to herself that it wasn't an accident and that it wasn't just easier.

Ophelia was her mom, and Luna was finally starting to accept that.

"Huh, I guess I did," Luna smiled and continued walking.

"Oh my god, I don't even know what to say?"

"Say yes?"

"Yes to what?"

"To my friend, staying over?"

"Oh, yes, of course? Is this a...special friend?"

"Oh my god."

"What?!"

"Okay, maybe she is."

"She?"

Shit.

"I was, I was kidding," Luna stuttered. "But yeah, she's a friend. Can she come over?"

"Sure..." Ophelia's voice was hesitant, but more like an 'i'm putting together the pieces of the puzzle' hesitant."

Luna nodded, "I talked to FP today, about Anthony."

"Oh?"

"And I saw the coroner's reports."

"Yeah? What did they say?"

"Well, it was weird..."

"Weird how?"

"Well, the cause of death and toxicology reports..."

"What about them? What happened?"

"Well-"

"Luna? Luna, answer me! Luna, I swear if this is a joke!"

Silence.

"Luna!"
