"You don't know?"

Luna had just finished answering Cheryl's question.

She had grabbed her things quickly, right after Betty had called her.

Luna was about to run right past Cheryl, even assuming she had left the building already but she hadn't.

"What's got you running so quickly?" Cheryl had scoffed as Luna's sneakers made a sound, scuffing the floor of the high school as she pulled to an abrupt stop.

Luna turned around, confused that she hadn't already learned the news.

I mean, they did have news about Jason too!

"No, I don't know," Cheryl responded to Luna's previous statement.

She raised an eyebrow and crossed her arms, expecting Luna to tell her what was wrong.

"There's news-"

Luna stopped, assuming Cheryl could infer what was next.

"About Jason?"

"And Anthony."

Cheryl scoffed and shook her head as she muttered under her breath, "Of course they wouldn't tell me."

"What?" Luna asked her, leaning in to hear more closely.

"Nothing," Cheryl looked up at Luna. "how did you find out?"

"Betty. She called me. She's friends with Kevin, the Sherrif's son. And I'm assuming Kevin knew and he spilled the beans," Luna said in a rushed breath, bouncing on her feet as she was eager to leave as soon as possible.

"W-"

"Cheryl! Just come with me!"

Luna grabbed Cheryl's hand, and for a second she stopped breathing.

Cheryl's breath hitched in her throat and she looked up, only to be met with the burning amber eyes of Luna.

For a quick second, she remembered the kiss they had just shared. How it could have been something more, and how she was quite sure she wasn't completely straight now.

But all those thoughts drifted away when Luna shook her head and tugged on Cheryl's arm, simultaneously tugging her back to reality.

"Are you coming?"

"Yes."

And at that they left the school, running out faster than they ever could have.

Especially Luna, who'd barely run her entire life.

They reached Betty's house soon after they had left the school, and Betty was standing outside and pacing neurotically.

When she sensed someone was there, she looked up, only to frown and scoff as she saw Cheryl.

"What is she doing here?" Betty asked, crossing her arms.

Luna didn't know this, but once Cheryl had tried to befriend Betty, only to anger her and be yelled out of her house.

And also the Cooper's and the Blossom's had a long time feud, but that's not as important, is it?

"She's uh," Luna thought about what to say next, sensing Cheryl was a bit uncomfortable.

In an effort to make her feel better, she took Cheryl's hand in her own and smiled to her side, Cheryl doing the same.

"We're friends," Cheryl completed Luna's sentence and squeezed her hand.

Betty didn't scoff, nor did she smile.

After a long silence, Luna spoke up, "So what's the news?"

"Well," Betty started. "it showed up."

"It?" Cheryl questioned.

"Jason's body and the coroner confirmed it was a murder."

Cheryl's breath hitched and she covered her mouth, turning around to compose herself.

She refused to allow herself to cry in front of these people.

Luna squeezed her hand as if to remind her she was there for Cheryl, and Cheryl nodded and turned around.

"What about my brother..." Luna asked, desperately praying that her brother's fate was not the same as Jason's.

"They didn't find his body, yet, but they know he and Jason interacted at some point during his disappearance. Jason didn't die immediately, it's like he was kidnapped or something prior to the murder," Betty explained and the girls before her nodded.

And that's when a lightbulb clicked in Luna's head.

"Betty, Betty!"

Betty furrowed her brows and so did Cheryl.

"He has Find My Friends on! It would have to turn off the last place it was even if it went into the water, which means even then we'll be closer to finding it where exactly he is!"

"Holy crap let's go!" Betty yelled.

Betty ran into her house and dragged out Veronica, who was quite confused.

"What, what is happening?"

"I'll explain later!"

Luna pulled out her phone quickly, using Find My Friends to figure out that Anthony's phone had last shown his location at the corner of town, right where the lake ended.

"Oh my god, let's go!"

Now, Luna had never run faster in her life than she did now.

Maybe it was her brother's possible chance of life that gave her hope, but just as quickly as that hope was given to her it was ripped away.

Luna somehow knew in her heart and soul that her brother wasn't alive anymore.

But she chose to ignore that feeling and ran anyways.

It took a while on foot, but eventually, the phone had brought them to Sweetwater River.

Luna, Cheryl, Betty, and Veronica stood for a while, waiting for one of the girls in the group to step forward and start walking.

Being the trailblazer she is, Luna decided to step forward first, only to have her forearm clutched by Cheryl.

"Hey, Lune-" Luna turned around, listening intently to Cheryl. "this might be pretty, bad, you know? Like - well, what I'm trying to say-"

"What she's trying to say is that you might see something that you don't want to if you follow through with this," Veronica finished off Cheryl's sentence. "so be prepared for anything, okay?"

Luna nodded, looking down and taking a deep breath before continuing onward.

Like I said, Luna had a feeling that her brother wasn't alive anymore.

And while that feeling was there, it didn't prepare her anymore for what she was about to see.

No amount of mental preparation could ever.

They had been brought to the edge of the lake, and at first, they were confused.

"How about we look in the water?" Betty had asked.

"Are you saying - what I think you're saying?" Luna gulped.

"Look, anything could have happened," Veronica sighed. "she's just - trying to be open to all possibilities."

"I know, I know," Luna started. "but I'm praying that he's still alive."

Moments later, they were bending down on the edge of the water, looking down inside to see if they could find anything.

"Hey!" Cheryl called. "I think I found his-"

When she stopped mid-sentence Luna looked up to find the horrified face of one Cheryl Blossom.

"What, what? Cheryl?"

Luna got up from her crouched position on the water's edge and raced to Cheryl's position, only to look down to see an image she'd never forget.

Betty had already dialed 911, and Luna could hear the sirens.

***

The sight the girls had discovered could only be described as gruesome, and it hadn't been Anthony.

It had been another Serpent, one that Anthony had been friend's with, and when the police decided to investigate the neighboring woods-

Anthony's body had finally been found hidden among the trees.

Luna sat away from most of the police chatter, but still by the river.

She sat on a big rock that was half submerged in the water, and had pulled her knees up to her chest.

Luna only looked up when she felt a weight on her shoulders.

"I thought everyone had left."

"I couldn't leave, I know how it feels to have a loved one die."

"It felt better to not know, I thought it would be better to have some closure - but it isn't."

"When you didn't know there was a possibility he was still alive right?"

"Yeah, but deep down I think I already knew he was dead, Cheryl, I think I just didn't want to accept it."

Cheryl lifted her head up to look into Luna's eyes, Luna turning her head to do the same.

"Hey, do you mind staying at my place tonight?" Luna asked her.

"No, not at all, no one should be alone at a time like this," Cheryl smiled.

The two intertwined their fingers before staring off into the lake, and for the first time in one felt like forever-

It was peaceful.

That feeling did not last forever, though, and soon Luna was being tapped on the shoulder.

"Ms. Martinez?"

"Yes?"

"You can go home now if you would like, we're done here."

Luna nodded and got up, still holding Cheryl's hand.

She looked to her side, "Here's my number, text me when you're coming for my address."

The two exchanged numbers and then Luna started to walk off in the direction of her house.

She kept walking and then stopped dead in her tracks once she reached the driveway.

The car parked had been burned inside Luna's brain forever, even the license plate was the same.

Mom, look out!

How could she forget.

Luna, I'm so sorry...

It was her mom's car, the one both her parents had died in.

The memory only broke Luna's heart more, as she realized how truly alone she was.

But she was still baffled as to why it was in her driveway.

They died, right?

Luna couldn't forget the day she had recieved the news, one could not just forget such a traumatic experience.

She gingerly started walking and pulled out her keys, unlocked her front door to see a woman admiring the framed pictures Luna had put up days before.

The woman turned when she heard the door shut.

"Oh, honey, how great to see you!"
