Chapter 21 - Scream.
~Unknown~
_ Even if I scream loud enough, you wouldn't help me. You'd just let me drown in my own misery. _

"Is she dead?" I waited for a reply, and when it finally came, a smile found its way to my face.
"Just as planned."
I couldn't express the joy that fluttered within my soul. I was beyond happy, and I was eager to know if he had done exactly as I had asked. "Did you leave our little package? I'm pretty sure Mr. Ekwegh will be most delighted to receive it." I asked, drumming my fingers against the thick, mahogany desk in my office.
"I did exactly what you asked. Your money was worth it, anyway." He said, and I couldn't care less if he felt I was being a pest again.
I smirked, as my lips came in contact with my glass of wine. Blood red. Just like the blood I'd just spilled. The Lord would have to forgive me for that. I had to have my way. And I had to get rid of her. She was nothing but a threat, all along. "I'd even give you more, if you finally kill the girl. But not yet, I'm sure the death of the other one will raise too many suspicions. It was wise of you to have struck when you did. Otherwise, they would've been trouble." I said, as I took a sip from my glass of wine. Its contents twirled inside the transparent glass, and I couldn't help but stare at its blood-like appearance.
All my sense of humanity, had been clouded and paralyzed by my greed. I was aware of that. And I was well-aware, that that girl would ruin me. And if anyone ever found out what that foolish woman had found out, I would've been ruined by now. Everything would have been gone by now, just like the wind carried away dust.
"As long as you pay generously." Came his gruff voice.
I placed my glass of wine on my desk, and slipped out a cigarette from it's packet. "Of course. It was enough that you spared my life that day, and didn't shoot me but shot the boxes behind me instead. For that, I'll make sure to treat you nicely. As long as you keep doing you job, splendidly." I replied, and lit the cigarette.
Slowly, I drew the cigarette in between my lips, and took a drag from it. Such sweet pleasure, just knowing that a plan was coming together, perfectly. "You have nothing to worry about. As long as you keep oiling our palms, your work will be done just as you please." He replied.
I let out a puff of smoke, in a perfect smoke ring, before I replied. "Sure. Although, I really wish you would be a bit faster. The longer that girl lives, the closer she gets to the truth." As the words left my mouth, I suddenly became a bit agitated. Knowing she was still alive, and breathing air, was ruining me. And the fact that she was in that cursed mansion, that cursed mansion when everything all began, was equally killing me.
I had to be smart with things. I had to be smart with them, as well. "Patience, ma'am," he glowered. "As a professional assassin, who knows how to devour his prey with ease, I know that patience is the first step to capturing them. Without patience, everything will be ruined." He added, as quick as he had before.
I grunted. "And the boy? What was his name again? Caleb? Kachi?" I groaned, frustrated that I couldn't recall the name of that little rascal.
"Kamsi." The guy at the other end, aided. I smiled, recalling how much I despised him as well.
"He's a threat, as well. From what you told me, earlier, he has started telling everyone what he saw that day. And that is not good. I felt the shock from it wouldn't let him, but it seems like he's slowly getting out of that shock. Whatever the cause, make sure you handle him. I'll pay you just as much." I said, once again, taking a drag from my cigarette.
The man, at the other end of the line, grunted in reply. "The boy isn't in the mansion. He's been with his grandparents." He informed, and I smiled.
"Even better. Killing him will be easy." I smiled again.
"I can't do that. It'd be too obvious that someone's out to get that family — which is true — but would you want the police to really dive into this case? Again, patience, ma'am." He replied, and I angrily slammed my hand on my desk, causing a bit of wine to splash onto the table.
"I don't f*cking care! Paralyze him! Poison him! But make sure you get him out of the way!" I ordered, and I heard another grunt from him.
"It won't work, ma'am. The boy is really smart, and he's the only one who has a hunch on what is really going on in that mansion. The last time we tried killing him, he escaped. And that was why he went on telling everyone. Luckily, we framed his father for it. That was our saving grace... So, for now, he doesn't suspect it's us." The man said, and I felt like gripping my hair, in frustration. This was what I hated about this assassin! He felt like he knew everything. And he always questioned orders. But he was quick to have forgotten that I pay him. I'm the oil to his palm, and the root to his flourishing bank account. I own him, but the nincompoop refused to comply to simple instructions. And yet, he had the audacity to have pointed a gun to my head.
Foolish excuse of a human! Insolent idiot!
"Get that boy out of the way. I don't care how you do it, but make sure you handle him. And make sure you make it a clean one, as well. If you have to, then pin his death on his father again. But make sure you get him out of the way." I said, and I heard the man grunt again.
"The boy isn't the problem, for now." Exasperated, I sighed and listened to him speak.
"Then who the f*ck is?" I almost yelled, but tried to contain my anger. Although my office was soundproofed, I really didn't want to raise a course for suspicions.
"His father." He replied, and I groaned.
"That man is no threat. He is just a plain fool, that's what he is. Even if we slapped him in the face, he still wouldn't know it was us. He's just as dumb as a rock, and that's why he kept listening to his second wife. Luckily, the b*tch is out of the way." I said, with distaste etched in every word that I spoke.
"Well, he is. I had a few suspicions that he would begin to rethink Kamsi's words, so I ordered my men to do a little research on him. They spied on him for days, and monitored his activities. And with that, we found out that he got hold of a CD. And in that CD, is a clear footage on how the first Mrs. Ekwegh died. Also, it had a clear footage of his conversation with you. If that CD gets out, you both are finished." The man said, and I got up from my sit.
Angrily, I took a huge gulp of my wine, and took a drag of cigarette. I almost screamed, but I held it in. "Where is the damned CD?"
"That's the problem. He lost it. And from what my men gathered, he has been worried over it. He knows he'll be ruined once it gets out." He informed, and I felt like smashing my head against a wall.
Just a few minutes ago, I'd been rejoicing over the death of that woman. And now? Now bad news had just slipped into the perfect picture. "Well, find it. Forget Kamsi, for now. Right now, I'm giving you another assignment," I puffed out smoke from my mouth, forming a decent smoke ring. "Find that CD and bring it to me. And make sure you kill whomever has it. Understood?"
"Understood." He replied, and I was most grateful that he didn't argue.
"Anything else? Anything to update me on?" I asked, returning to my swivel chair.
"No. But I do have a suspect on who might have the CD." He said, and I drummed my fingers against the armrest of my swivel chair.
"Well? Tell me." I replied.
He sighed. "The night before I killed Mr. Ekwegh's second wife, I was at the mansion. I was monitoring her activities that night, and I think she noticed someone was spying on her. Abruptly, she got up from her bed, but it was dark in her room so I couldn't quite see what exactly she was doing," he cleared his throat, and continued. "But I still followed her in the shadows, making sure not to lose her from my sight. She walked into that girl's room, that night. But unfortunately, the girl closed the door, and so I had to press my ears against the door in order to hear what they were saying. But I could barely hear a thing. The door was too thick, and—"
"Enough with your flimsy narration! Just get to the point!" I roared, as anger bit into my veins.
The man grunted, and hissed. "As I was saying," he drawled, with a low growl. "I think the lady gave the CD to the girl. She must have the CD." He said, and I had a firm grip on my phone. To think that that brat had the CD, was infuriating. What if she watched it already? No! That couldn't, and wouldn't happen!
"Get the CD. And make sure you get rid of her, as well. If she was wise, that note you left would've have at least made her scared. So I'm sure she'd still be in shock. It'll be easy to kill her now. And don't tell me stupid sh*t that it isn't the right time, and whatnot. I want that girl dead. And now." I ordered, my eyes were as alert as that of an owl in the night.
"Sure. We'll take care of her." He said, and I heaved a sigh, and hissed.
"You had better." With that, I hung up.
My mind was racing, and I couldn't take the fact that that girl was still breathing. She had to go. She just had to. And thankfully, the second wife was dead now, and that meant she couldn't keep protecting her anymore.
Now, I was sure killing her would be an easy feat. After all, the girl was too trusting, and was as foolish as could be. She was extremely clueless, as well, and believed the lies everyone spat her way.
She must've thought coming here meant her paradise, but she didn't know coming here meant her doom. It had been planned all along. And even now, no one could dare change the fact that she was now in the web I created for her.
I'm coming for you, Alisa. Just you wait and see how I end you.
