Chapter 18 - Demons.

~Alisa~

_ I've had to cope with the demons in my head all my life. It's funny to think, that were actually my greatest fears _

"You will not be leaving this house, and that is final. Do whatever you wish, say whatever you want... But you will not leave this house!" that was Mr. Ekwegh's voice. And it rose a time higher, a tone harsher. The debate over Kamsi's decision had been on for far too long. And I  was beginning to feel a migraine approaching.

"And you didn't think that when you f*cking sent me away?!" Kamsi yelled, angry at his father. His hands were shoved into his pockets, his nose flared with hot air and Kambili stood by his side; trying so hard to calm him down.

"I've warned you. I am your father, like it or not" Mr. Ekwegh said, and Kamsi let out a sarcastic laugh.

"Father my foot!" Kamsi dared to say, daring him with his darkened eyes. Mr. Ekwegh stared back, and gave his all into trying to hide the hurt accompanied with Kamsi's words.

"Kamsiyochukwu, he is your father. Treated him like—"

"Granny, I've heard that too many times but question myself over and over again if he truly is!" Kamsi yelled, cutting her off. Had he gone mad? Because I wondered if he did.  "He is not my father" Kamsi added, immediately.

"Kamsi, please calm down" Kambili managed to say to him and it seemed like she was the only one he was willing to listen to. He spared her a glance, his gaze still remained hardened, but not as much as it was when he stared at his father; coldly.

"You are not leaving" Mr. Ekwegh said, again.

"Says who? Last time I checked, you threw me out" Kamsi argued.

"That was because I was trying to help you. And this, this , was exactly why I did that!" Mr. Ekwegh yelled in frustration.

Kamsi shook his head, and ran a frustrated hand through his wooly hair. His eyes had pure rage moulded into his woody pools. "I can't deal with this. I can't deal with him either" he said, ready to leave once again, but Kambili stopped him. Did he seriously not know when to stop? Could he not see how much this was hurting her as well?

She had tears in her eyes, and it seemed to have an effect on him. "Kamsi, you are not leaving this house" Mr. Ekwegh still debated, and that only made Kamsi even more annoyed. He turned to spare him a distasteful look.

"Watch me," with that, he pulled Kambili along with him and headed for the door.

"Kamsi! Kamsi!" He yelled, rushing after the two of them.

Where was he taking Kambili to?

Finally, Kamsi halted. His grandparents were by his side now and his father had already gotten right in front of him.

"Get back" Mr. Ekwegh warned.

Kamsi eyed him. "I don't want to have to fight you to get what I want... But if you leave me with no other option, I will" he said, making everyone else - besides Mr. Ekwegh - gasp in shock. Even I gasped, as well.

"You've grown the wings to want to fight your father? Kamsi, can you hear yourself?" Mr. Ekwegh's voice held disbelief, and Kamsi seemed to not care at all.

"I lost all my respect for you, when you and your stupid wife killed my mother. You both wronged her, and not only did you do that... You also took all she—"

"That's enough, Kamsi!" Grandpa Ekwegh ordered, and Kamsi clenched his fists while glaring at his father.

"Don't friggin tell me to keep quiet! He knows it's true! He knows what he did!" Kamsi yelled, his voice suddenly got a pitch higher.

"Kamsi, stop talking. That's enou—"

"No one should say that to me again! It's not enough! He killed my mother, took all she had, and still went ahead and married her twin even after he had an affair with her. She was pregnant , Grandpa. Pregnant for his child, and yet he treated her badly. He used to care about her, but channeled all the love for her to her twin whom he was currently seeing. And when my innocent mother found out, killing her became his only option," Kamsi's eyes had already reddened and his voice shook with every word he spoke.

"No one else was there that day. And that's why you all wouldn't know what I saw. I was the only one at home, and I had seen every single thing. My mother was struggling, and he kept pushing her... And it stinks cause her own twin was there and did nothing!" At this point, he darted his eyes towards Mrs. Ekwegh and eyed her in disgust. "I tried helping, still he kept hitting her..." Kamsi looked like he could see everything replaying in his head. The shock in his eyes, the way his shoulders slumped and trembled, and the way he looked like he was losing his senses - made me think he was slowly running mad. It also made me think he was telling the truth all along. The realisation of this, hit me at full speed.

"And when she finally fell off the stairs, he did absolutely nothing! They both didn't do sh*t about it! And yet he..." He choked on his own words. "And yet this demon had the guts to lie to you all that it was an accident. And you all believed him!" Kamsi suddenly looked like he had lost it.

"It was an accident, Kamsi! I didn't mean it! Trust—"

"Shut up! Just shut the hell up!" Kamsi roared, towering over his father and taking threatening steps towards him. "Say that one more time, and I swear to God who made me your son, I'll kill you right here and right now!" He roared at him again, and Mr. Ekwegh had fear swimming in the pools of his eyes.

Kambili immediately knew her brother wasn't bluffing, and hurriedly tried to pull him away from their father. His grandparents were also trying their best to calm him down.

"Kamsi, calm down. We can talk about in this in a more civilized way and—"

"Don't you friggin tell me to calm down! Don't you dare!" He yelled at Mr. Ekwegh.

"Son, please—"

"I am not your son! Your son died the minute you turned into this slimy beast you have become. One day, your lies will finally be out in the open... And that's when everyone will finally know who you truly are. Mark my words," Kamsi said. "I hope Karma lands you in your grave" he spat the last words with no care in the world.

"Kamsi, don't say that to him! Please!" Kambili yelled, shaking her head in disbelief. At this point, she let go of Kamsi's hand, like she was afraid to touch it. Afraid of what he could do with those hands of his. She looked like she couldn't believe that the boy standing right before her, was her twin brother.

"Bili, you don't have to cover for him while I'm here" he said to her, and she stared at him like everything he was saying was both shocking her, and hurting her at the same time. Kamsi tried holding her hand, but she took a step back; still maintaining eye contact with him. Her eyes had endless tears rolling from them. And the look of shock and fear in her eyes, must've certainly hurt Kamsi as well, because he stood there like he had just been shot straight at his heart.

"He's our father, Kamsi. No matter how much you hate him" she tried to reason with him.

"And that's why he tried to get rid of me! Cause I'm the only one who knows the truth about him. You don't know what he's capable of doing. He's capable of even wanting to kill his own son... Just as long as his secret doesn't come out in the open," Kamsi said, his eyes were still rooted to his father's now. "Disgusting" he said, with so much distaste in his voice.

"What do you mean by that?" Grandpa Ekwegh asked. Grandma Ekwegh, at this point, seemed to have gotten tired of saying anything. She simply watched the scene unfold, with tears in her eyes.

"Ask him. He is your son after all. So ask him how he tried to kill me" Kamsi said, and that was enough to get all attention on Mr. Ekwegh.

"Kamsi, quit saying trash about me. I am your father, and I deserve your respect!" Mr. Ekwegh demanded.

"Demand what stupid respect?! Respect you didn't earn?! Or respect you lost years ago?!" Kamsi flared up. "You lost all the respect I had for you, a long time ago. You are dead to me, as far as I'm concerned" Kamsi said. It seemed like he intended for his words to cut right through his father's heart. And it was working.

"Kamsi!" It was Kambili who yelled this in shock, still refusing to believe her brother just spat those incredibly harsh words at their father.

"You hired men to have me killed, didn't you?" Kamsi ignored her, yet continued talking. "And not only that, you've sent people to attack me... Not once, not thrice, and I know it won't be the last" Kamsi further accused and his grandparents, alongside Kambili watched him in awe.

"Damn you!" Mr. Ekwegh flared up. His chest rose and fell at tremendous speed, and he stared at Kamsi; like he was trying so hard to not strangle him.

"No! Damn you!" Kamsi yelled back. And surprisingly, Kamsi lost it and shocked everyone present, when his fist flew across his father's face and made impact with his left cheek. Mr. Ekwegh staggered, and fell and Kambili and their grandparents rushed over to his side.

"What have you done, Kamsi? You've committed an abomination! How you could you punch your own father?!" Grandpa Ekwegh yelled at him.

Kamsi scoffed, and wiped off the blood stains off his knuckles. "He deserves to die. He should be grateful that I didn't kill him the second I had the chance" and with that, Kamsi stormed out of the house.

"Kamsi! Kamsi! Kamsi!" Kambili yelled, rushing after her brother, while her father lay on the floor; still recovering from the punch, and stunned by everything that had happened. He had spat out some blood out of his mouth, and his left cheek was terribly bruised. I couldn't imagine what exactly he must've done to make his own son hate him this much. Did he really try to kill Kamsi? Or was Kamsi simply laying false allegations?

"What has that boy turned into?" Grandma Ekwegh wailed, as she sent for a maid who ran in with a bowl of warm water and a clean cloth; which she used to wipe the blood stains, off her son's cheek.

* * *

For hours, I'd been trying to get Kambili to eat something. She refused eating, or drinking anything. All she did, was lay on my bed and cry. I couldn't even bring myself to tell her to stop, because I understood her pain. Still, I was obliged to at least make her eat something.

"Crying won't change anything, Bili. Please stop" I told her, yet she wouldn't listen. All she did, was wail continuously. Showing no sign of wanting to stop anytime soon.

"He shouldn't have don't that, Alisa. He shouldn't have! I know my father made a mistake by sending him away," She sobbed. "But it wasn't his fault. Instead, it was that witch's fault!" Kambili cried all over again, and began to feel a little too tired of constantly trying to calm her down.

After the entire thing, and she trying to get Kamsi to stay, the stubborn boy still left. Despite all her pleading! And worse part was, he didn't go to his grandparents' house. No one even know where he went.

Honestly, I was most disappointed in him for having punched his father like that. That was a major insult, and I could only imagine how hurt the Mr. Ekwegh must've felt. Who wouldn't? His own son had said such brute words to him, and even punched him in the face, and walked out on him like he was some piece of sh*t. I wondered, if Kamsi had said all that just to spite him, or if it actually did happen. Would Mr. Ekwegh really try to kill his own son?
