Silence strangled the air. Unnatural, sickly quietness all around. I stood, paralysed with fear. Only moments ago, the merry chirping of birds and rustling of leaves had been floating on the breeze. I felt the hairs on my neck rise. Someone, or something, was watching. Suddenly even my quiet breaths seemed deafening in this still air. I scanned my surroundings carefully, at every moment preparing to feel the painful punch of an arrow or the silver slash of a sword from this hidden enemy. There! Through the trees there was a flicker of movement, yet the leaves did not even rustle a warning. I could only watch in horror as a shrouded, shadowy figure slid into the clearing. An apparition of mist that made not a sound as it moved closer. I tried to move, but something about it's presence seemed to bind me here. Then, it was upon me.
