The Screaming Earth
There was an earthquake in the underground, Harry held Sans to her chest as he whimpered in fear.
It was soul breaking terrifying, they were all trapped below ground and if the cave above them collapsed there was no escape.
The seal kept them from digging out past a certain point, otherwise they would have dug under the seal.
They stayed there under there kitchen table for hours, not moving as after shakes moved the ground.
"HARRY! SANS!"
The front door slammed open, a terrified Gaster ran in clearly having rushed from work once it was safe. His lab coat was ripped and dirty, Harry pulled themselves from under the table her trembling arms still holding Sans.
"Gaster," she said in relief tears slipping down her face.
"It was so scary," Sans cried into his daddies chest.
"I was terrified I lost you." he croaked out, the family of three didn't creep put from there home fro awhile.
------
"There was some damage in the labs, mostly from the shaking, Some of the not quite developed towns will need help. The most damages were the shelters," Gaster told her a few days, after the capital city had finished surveys and sent help out to set things right.
"How many were lost?" she asked worriedly, she asked after making sure Sans was still sleeping for his afternoon nap.
"Amazing none, but.. a piece of the veiling collapsed. They want you to take a look, they can see outside," he told her, she hissed in shock.
"The people that still live in the shelter know not to touch it right?" she asked worriedly, they'd had a few people touch pieces of barrier before when digging.
It had not been a nice death.
Not that any death was nice.
The one easy to reach piece of barrier was beyond the castle, protected behind Judgment hall and the throne room.
"They know, I just wish.. they'd leave the shelters," Gaster said rubbing his face, a few monsters didn't seem to want to leave. They were more outliers or the ghost tribe of monsters, even half the spider clan stayed there. They could survive, but if the gate to the shelters ever become blocked they wouldn't be able to leave.
"We can always hope love, but e can't force them.. everyone's taken our situation different ways," Harry said squeezing his hand, it was why they had a prison deep deep below for those criminal and a mental hospital in a peaceful area you needed permission to enter to visit those living there. They were not on maps, and unlikely not to be to stop idiots. Everyone knew of them, and could arrange permission to visit.
The Prison only had three inmates, murderers and unsafe for the mental hospital. People in the Mental Hospital they hoped would heal and one day leave, if not they had a peaceful community they would be cared for.
Harry had visited both and helped build both, wanting to make sure neither placed would eb like human prisons and mental institutions, and would be truly cared for.
Anyone that worked placed, had to take magical vows.
"Hope, what we all must have," Gaster smiled at his spouse.
------
"Mama sky," Sans said happily pointing up.
"Your right sweetsoul." Harry grinned kissing his skull, she passed him to Gaster as she looked over the area the shelter cave ceiling had collapsed. Thankfully a room not used anymore, as the set of families using this courtyard like area had moved to waterfall.
Studying the room, she fixed it as much as she could, making sure to brace it. She'd do it the rest of the shelter areas after, they might need the shelters again one day.
Nothing bad about backup plans.
"The barrier up there is still one way," Harry grumbled, which unfortunately meant humans and animals could fall in but not leave.
"Nothing we can do about it, but have Guards keep an eye on the place," Gaster said shaking his head, its was why they had a few random non magical animals in the underground so far.
"Mama, lots a dirt. Looks all sad," Sans said pointing with the innocence of a child.
She looked down and used magic to bread the dirt till it covered lost of the floor.
"It has a lot of sunlight and the dirt is healthy and has seeds mixed in, we might have a little park one day here," she smiled. A bit of sun would help a lot of peoples minds.
"Flowers mama," Sans chirped excitedly.
"That's right, I think a few of the seeds I see are buttercups," she replied.
"We'll have to check in a few weeks, maybe have a picnic under the sun" Gaster said with a smile.
"I'd like that"
