Chapter 7 - Lionwing

A/NΒ

So we are doing a huge time skip ppl!Β

*fast forwards about 6 moons*Β

Ok now cue the story!

Lionwing walked inside camp along with Leafmoon, Coldgaze, and his apprentice, Cinderpaw.

The four cats just arrived from a dawn patrol.

The golden tom glanced at the sky, realizing that it was already sunhigh.

Lionwing and Cinderpaw were heading to the fresh-kill pile when suddenly Flowertail rushed up to them.

"Hey Lionwing," Flowertail said in a fake sweet voice, "Oh uh hey...Timberpaw right?"

"It's Cinderp-" she white and black pawed apprentice began and Flowertail soon turned away from her.

Cinderpaw glared at the tan she-cat, her blue eyes narrowed to slits.

"So I was wondering if you wanna hang out later today," she slowly got in between him and his apprentice.

"Uh sure Flowertail. I just need to take a nap first. I'm really tired today," Lionwing responded, feeling tired just from talking.

"Alright. Catch you later!" she brushed her tan and red tail under his chin.

"I hate her," Cinderpaw said when Flowertail was out of earshot.

"Cinderpaw that's not nice..."Β

"Well she's not nice. She's rude, fake, and way too obsessed with you."

"I know right!" a voice said with a mrrow of laughter behind them.

They both turned to see Fawnpelt trotting over to them slowly.

Her belly was very swollen; her and Hawksong's kits were due any day now.

"Fawnpelt you should stay in the nursery!" Lionwing meowed in a stern tone to his sister.

"C'mon bro, I need to get water some time," Fawnpelt rolled her eyes.

"Why didn't you stop her?" the golden warrior turned to Hawksong, who padded up besides his mate.

"I'm too afraid to try," Hawksong laughed, "Lionwing you are taking this way to seriously!"

"Well your not taking it seriously enough!" he mumbled grumpily.

"You should get a nap. You look tired," Fawnpelt rested her tail tip on her brother's shoulder.

Lionwing sighed.

"Fine! But I'll check on you soon," he yawned and headed for the warriors den.

He sighed again as he laid down in the moss nest.Β

The warrior closed his amber eyes and fell asleep almost instantly.

There was a loud yowl and Lionwing's head shot up.

Oh no...that's Fawnpelt! he thought with a flare of panic.

The golden tom leapt from his nest and dashed outside.

Fawnpelt was crouched low and wailed, "My kits!"

Hawksong looked about ready to have a heart attack.

"Someone get the medicine cats!" Brindleheart meowed, helping her daughter.

Lionwing sprinted to the medicine den where he found Shimmersky and Velvetcloud sorting herbs.

"Fawnpelt is kitting!" he said and without another word, the three of them raced out of the room.

"Where is she?" Shimmersky asked when they were in the middle of camp, Velvetcloud right behind her, carrying the herbs they needed.

"She's in the nursery,"Hawksong said, pacing nervously right outside where his mate entered.

Shimmersky and Velvetcloud went in, leaving him and Hawksong at the entrance.

"Don't worry Hawksong. Everything will be fine! Shimmersky and Velvetcloud are probably the best medicine cats out there," Lionwing tried to reassure his best friend, even though he was just as scared.

The white and black tom nodded weakly and continued pacing back and forth.

After for what had seemed moons, Shimmersky peeked her head out.

"Congratulations Hawksong! You're a father to two strong she-cats! You and Lionwing may see her," the golden-flecked medicine cat smiled.

Lionwing and Hawksong padded in to see an exhausted yet joyful Fawnpelt laying in a moss nest, two small kits huddled close to her belly.

"They're so beautiful!" Hawksong purred, happiness glinting in his light blue eyes.

Fawnpelt nuzzled him and said, "What should we name them?"

"Well how about Deerkit for the dark brown one with white speckles?" the tabby tom suggested.

"I like that. Maybe we could name the other one after Silverpaw..." Fawnpelt's mew trailed off slightly.

A familiar pain stabbed Lionwing in the heart as he remembered Silverpaw's death and how it was his fault.

He blinked back tears and tried to focus on the present.

Hawksong's face fell.

"N-no, how about Snowkit?" he quickly replied.

Fawnpelt realized she shouldn't have brought that up and she meowed, "Yeah, let's go with that."

She then glanced at her brother.

"Lionwing come meet your nieces!" his sister mewed, nuzzling each kit softly.

"Hello kits," he purred trying to keep his mind off of Silverpaw.

After he was done, Lionwing sat on his haunches watching the family.

Even though this was a happy moment, the golden warrior gazed down at his light cream paws, wishing that he could've used them to save his best friend's life.
