15 : Lost

Agility

The front lines were not the ideal place for a hybrid with only a single friend, who was stuck on guard duty for Yellowjacket Hive. Agility wished she had a ruff to flare to look more threatening, venom to shoot to melt her enemies's faces, or camouflage to hide or do a sneak attack. Well, she did have venom, but it wouldn't do much face-melting.

Her SkyWing abilities were more obvious, with the fire-breathing and all. But it left her regiment very reliant on her whenever they came across one of Queen Pygmy's border guards of flamesilks. Fire against fire.

It was ridiculous. This wasn't her war.

Huffing, Agility stared at the makeshift table in the abandoned building where her regiment had taken residence for the past few days. This had once been a completely normal home, probably occupied by a SilkWing or LeafWing. But not it was just an empty shell. She curled her prehensile tail absentmindedly. She was thinking about Poison and Ipê, some of the only dragons that she was close with. Agility hadn't seen Ipê, her girlfriend, since she'd been drafted. Closing her eyes, she pictured the LeafWing's face. It was slightly blurred from months of hardly any contact, but she still found it endearing.

Once this over, I'm giving her a massive hug, Agility grumbled internally, clenching her talons. Once the war was over... It was hard to think about. What was their plan exactly? Agility fought on the HiveWing's side, as her parents lived in Mantis Hive. She shuddered slightly. She'd heard that a Hive had been taken over by LeafWings, and she prayed that it hadn't been Mantis. News about the happenings outside was sparse. They hadn't had contact with other dragons in two days.

"Thinking?" Agility raised her head and took in the thin black HiveWing with soft yellow scales rimming their eyes. They stared at her in concern. She wasn't exactly friends with any of the dragons here, but they were all friendly with one another.

She sighed. "Yeah... about the war." How could they not think about the war? The horrible thing that took over all of their minds at all times. Not knowing if, at any moment, a dragon could lurch out of the shadows and attack them. They were entering the disputed forested area near the Poison Jungle, called the flat lands. Apparently, Queen Pigmy demanded a section of territory around Hornet Hive. Giving her the land would have meant the hive belonged to the SilkWing, and would dislocate hundreds of HiveWings from their homes. In relation, Queen Chalcid was sending dragons to the flat lands to send a message.

But the LeafWings... why had they captured a Hive? Why?! The dragon talking to her blinked thoughtfully. "I understand that," they nodded. "Try to relax, think about home. Once we get to the captured area near the SilkWing village, we should be fine."

Agility nodded, trying to believe that all their troubles would be over. It was just so hard... She remembered the first time she'd met Poison.

The hybrid had been in the army for two days -not long- but she already was gaining the expressions of a seasoned soldier. Agility was sitting in their lunchroom, staring at the unappetizing food on her plate, when a HiveWing sat next to her.

Agility eyed the yellow-striped HiveWing out of the corner of her eye, seemingly causing the other alarm. Finally, she spoke. "How long have you been in the army?" The HiveWing asked.
"Not long; just two days," Agility had replied.
The HiveWing hummed to herself for a moment, drumming her talons on the table. "Interesting. Have you killed anyone?"

Even now, Agility shuddered. At first, she'd been so shocked at Poison's question and how ridiculous it was. Her, a killer? It was like having a newly hatched dragonet write a novel. Such a silly idea. Things change. Agility had the blood of two dragons on her talons now. Even thinking about it now made her heart pound and her throat feel dry. If she thought about it too hard, she could almost feel the crust of dried blood between her scales. That had been a dark day.

Agility nodded slowly, trying to believe it. Trying to believe that after this war was over, she would be able to return to her life. That she wouldn't be broken beyond compare, a mere shell of who she used to be. Right now, Agility was like a lost dragonet, just wandering around. She gritted her teeth, suddenly determined. Get through this.

Yep that's agility, probably the least relevant character that I absolutely don't care about lol
