Chapter 41 - The Dark Mark
Y/Ns POV
Bloody hell, this stadium was massive!
"Seats a hundred thousand." Mr. Weasley said after seeing our faces in awe. "Ministry task force of five hundred have been working on it all year. Muggle Repelling Charms cover every inch of it. Every time the Muggles have got anywhere near here all year, they've suddenly remembered urgent appointments and had to dash away again......bless them."
"Blimey Dad." Ron exclaimed. "How far up are we?"
"Let's put it this way," a voice sneered behind us. "If it rains, you'll be the first to know."
Jesus Christ, not this bloke.
We turned our heads to see the smug faces of Lucius, Narcissa, and Draco Malfoy.
"Hey, Malfoy." I sneered. "Seems like you took my advice on buying some hair conditioner, get attacked by any hippogriffs this summer?"
"You will not speak to my son that way!" Narcissa said.
"Did I ask for your opinion?" I sneered. "Why don't you lecture your family on how to show some respect, then you'll earn some."
"Father, Mother and I are in the Ministers box, L/N." Malfoy said smugly. "By personal invitation of Cornelius Fudge himself."
Draco then looked towards Heather and instantly dropped his smug look.
"And who might you be beautiful?" He smirked.
"Heather Weasley." She replied. "Doesn't take much to know who you are, cocky personality, too much gel in your hair, and a ferret face to go along with it, you must be Draco Malfoy, and I'd appreciate it if you stopped harassing my family."
Draco's face fell as Narcissa looked furious.
"How dare you?!" She exclaimed.
"How dare me? How dare you, for raising such a stupid, bigoted son who's an embarrassment to all wizard kind." Heather said. "But the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree, does it?
"Already here, Lucius?" A voice beckoned from next to us. "Perfect."
A family of three joined the Malfoy's and stood next to them, one such person I recognized was Tomas Rosewood, and he looked pretty uncomfortable.
These much be his family.
"Right here, Augustus, Ingrid." Lucius greeted. "Just catching up with our dearest friends, the Weasleys."
A/N: Liam Neeson and Sandra Bullock as Augustus and Ingrid Rosewood. Toms parents.
"Arthur!" Augustus greeted with a fake smile. "I suppose you'll be sitting on the top? We happen to have personal invitations to the Ministers Box. With Cornelius himself."
Tom looked more and more uncomfortable as his Father continued to speak.
Jesus, are most Pureblood families this pompous?
"Why don't you tell it to someone who gives a shit." I said.
Augustus turned towards me as Hermione slipped her hand inside of mine.
"I don't know who you are, boy." He sneered, grabbing my wrist. "But you would do with showing the smallest glimpse of respect, I am-"
"Augustus Rosewood, yeah, I know who you are." I sneered. "One of the most controversial Ministers of all time, I've heard about those accusations made against you, the ones of you being in full support of You Know Who. Some could even say you were worse than Fudge himself."
Hermione's hand squeezed harder as everyone gasped.
"How dare you speak to my husband that way!" Ingrid exclaimed.
"Ma'am, it's a free country, and I can speak to your husband however the hell I want." I replied.
"Ah, I remember now, you must be the L/N boy." Augustus smirked. "How's your Mother and Father doing these days?"
Not a whole lot of people know that my Dad is alive, and we mutually agreed to keep it that way.
"Are you really that low, to be making fun of my dead parents?" I asked. "You really are pathetic."
The Rosewoods scoffed as Augustus grabbed Toms wrist harshly, and made their way up to where Fudge was sitting, but not before Tom gave us a friendly wave.
The Malfoy's followed shortly after, as we went to our seats.
"That was very brave of you to stick up for us Y/N." Mr. Weasley said. "But you could have gotten into serious trouble."
"I don't give a damn what the Malfoy's say." I replied to him. "Or Tom's family for that matter, I can't believe he's related to that man."
"I don't see how you can be friends with a filthy snake like him." Ron sneered. He still had his own opinion on Tom.
"Shut up, Billius." Heather smacked his head. "He seemed nice, and a bit cute."
Me and Hermione followed the others hand in hand as we reached the top box with the others.
"It's the Irish!" Fred cried out as streaks of green and white beamed through the sky. People cheered in excitement, including us.
"Here come the Bulgarians!" George cried out as more voices yelled,
"KRUM!"
"KRUM!"
"KRUM!"
A player who had the exact facial replica of an egg zoomed onto the field, waving to the crowd as he did so.
This is Ron's man crush?
Hermione nudged herself closer to me as continued to watch.
"Veela!" Mr. Weasley shouted.
"What are veel-"
Before Harry could ask, nearly all the boys stared at the women down on the field as they watched them move. I really didn't see the appeal, which is why I said nearly.
"Mr. Weasley!" Hermione exclaimed as he Alamo at fell out of his seat staring at the Veela. "You have a wife!"
"Oh, right." Mr. Weasley said sheepishly. "Let's keep this between us, alright?"
"Sure, Dad." Ginny snickered.
"Why couldn't you be attracted by the Veela?" Hermione asked. "You must be stronger than them."
"I don't need to, as I'm sitting next to the prettiest girl I know." I thought in my head.
"Probably that." I smiled as she brought herself in closer to me.
"Good evening!" Bagman bellowed to the crowd. "It gives me great pleasure to welcome each and everyone of you to the final of the 422nd Quidditch World Cup. Let the match begin!"
———————————————————————————
"IRELAND WINS!" Bagman yelled after two hours of Quidditch. "KRUM GETS THE SNITCH—BUT IRELAND WINS!"
Bagman had paid Fred and George their money, but I had a strange feeling that it was Leprechaun gold, so I told him off. Eventually he paid them with real money and gave Harry his 200 galleons.
We were celebrating the Irish's victory over Bulgaria inside of the tent. The twins were dancing around wildly as the rest of us joined in on the celebration.
Ron was pretty pissed about the Bulgarians defeat, and refused to accept it.
"There's no one like Krum." he bellowed to us.
"Krum?" The Twins said. "KRUM!"
"He's like a bird the way he rides through the wind! He's more than an athlete, he's an artist!"
"Think you're in love Ron?" Ginny smiled.
"Viktor, I love you!"
"Viktor, I do!"
We all joined in together as Ron was looking around. "When we're apart, my heart beats only for youuuuuuuu!"
Eventually, we celebrated long enough as I felt tired and went to the girls bunks to share with Hermione as she followed me in.
"My offer still stands if you're interested." Heather smirked as we walked inside.
"He won't be joining you!" Hermione exclaimed while giving a heated glare.
"I'm just messing around, Hermione." Heather laughed as she climbed into bed.
I let Hermione go in first as I placed my things down on the bed. We had decided to read for awhile before bed, sharing a book between us as we laid down next to each other.
I felt sleep after a while and said, "Goodnight, Hermione."
"Goodnight, Y/N." She said as she closed her book and wrapped her arms around my torso.
"Goodnight, guys." Ginny said to us.
"Goodnight, Gin."
"Goodnight, Ginny." Hermione responded.
"Goodnight, all." Heather said.
"Goodnight!" We all replied.
I kissed Hermione's forehead lightly as she snuggled in, and drifted off to sleep.
———————————————————————————
"Y/N!" A voice bellowed. "Girls! Get up, we have to leave!"
I jolted from my bed to find Mr. Weasley in front of me with his pajamas on.
"W-what's going on." I yawned.
"No time!" He said as the others woke up. "Just grab a jacket and go!"
I didn't ask any more questions as I slipped on my hoodie. Hermione couldn't find the jacket she was wearing earlier, so I gave her one of my hoodies.
We needed to leave.
Me, Hermione, Heather, and Ginny ran outside and met up with Harry and Ron. It was complete chaos outside as a crowd of masked wizards raised people up in the air and cackled evilly.
But these wizards were not just any normal wizards.
These were Death Eaters.
And they served Voldemort.
"A-are those m-Muggles." Hermione stuttered as she pointed to the people screaming in the air.
"They won't get to you." I said as I squeezed her hand. "I'll make sure of that."
"You know, that was really cute and everything, but, WE NEED TO GET OUT OF HERE!" Heather exclaimed.
"She's right." I said as I drew my wand from my pocket. "We aren't safe here."
"We're going to help the Ministry!" Mr. Weasley said as he joined us with Bill, Charlie, and Percy. "You lot—get into the woods, and stick together. I'll come and fetch you when we've sorted this out!" He then left with the three older boys.
"C'mon!" Fred shouted as he ran with George and Ginny as we followed them into the woods.
"What exactly is going on?" Harry asked. "Who are they?"
"Those are Death Eaters!" I yelled. "Voldemort's followers! They're attacking Muggles!"
"Ah!" Ron said as he fell. "Tripped over a tree root."
"With feet that size, hard not to." Malfoy said as he leaned against one of the trees.
"Are those your parents, Bleach boy?" I asked. I bet they are out there with those f*cking, demented, psychos."
"Language, L/N." Malfoy said. "You wouldn't want to have Granger spotted, would you?"
He looked at Hermione, who squeezed my hand tightly. "They're after Muggles." He said. "D'you want to be showing her knickers in midair? Because if you do, hang around...they're moving this way, and it would give us all a laugh."
I whipped out my wand and shouted. "Flipendo!" blasting Malfoy back into a tree.
"Don't you dare." I said as I punched Malfoy hard in the face. "No god damn Death Eater is touching Hermione when I'm around."
"If you think they can't spot a Mudblood." He said as his lip was bleeding. "Stay where you are."
I punched Malfoy again before I said, "Hermione. Is. A. Witch."
"Whatever you say, L/N." He said. "They'll come after you and your filthy little Mudblood bit-"
And before he could say anything else, Malfoy was again punched by none other than our good friend, Sam Auras.
"Bloody bitch." He sneered. "I think I hate him more than Krum."
"Never mind him." Hermione said as she grabbed my arm and looked at me. "Let's go find the others. With any luck, the Ministry will catch them."
In the distance, we could hear a familiar voice.
"That'll be you one day, Tomas, and when that day comes, you'll make me proud!"
That was the voice of Augustus Rosewood, the arsehole we met earlier, as well as Tom's father.
"Whatever you say father." Tom replied. "Whatever you say."
I wonder what they were talking about?
"Fred and George can't have gone that far." Ron said as he pulled out his wand.
"Ah, no!" Harry said. "I don't believe it...I've lost my wand!"
"You're kidding?!" Heather said.
"Maybe it's back at the tent?" Ron suggested.
"Maybe it fell out of your pocket while we were running." Hermione asked.
"There is bad wizards about!" A squeaky voice said. "People high—high in the air! Winky is getting out of the way!" A house elf ran next to us trying to get out of the way.
"What's up with her?" Ron asked. "Why can't she run properly?"
"You know, house elf's get a very raw deal!" Hermione exclaimed.
Sam turned to part ways with us and head back to his friends as we began to run.
We kept running until we all fell onto a branch. Harry doubled down in pain as he clutched his head. In the back, someone had broken the silence around us as they shouted a spell no one had expected.
"MORSMORDRE!"
And out of the users wand, a green bolt shot up into the sky and emblazoned the sky with a scary mark.
A skull with a snake moving inside of it.
This was the Dark Mark.
Hermione's POV
As we watched the Dark Mark fill the sky, I shook with fear as I saw it.
Y/N took notice and grabbed my hand, squeezing it lightly.
"Who's there?" Harry shouted.
"Harry, let's go!" Y/N shouted.
"Why, what's the matter?"
"That's the Dark Mark, Harry! Voldemort's sign!"
As we all got back up, we only took a few steps before we were torpedoed with Stunning Spells.
"STUPEFY!" Several voices yelled as we ducked. Y/N shielded me with his body as we fell to the ground.
"Stop! Stop!" A male voice shouted. "That's my nephew!"
"And that's my son!" Another voice shouted.
We all got up to see Thomas L/N and Mr. Weasley stop the other wizards from firing spells at us. As Thomas turned around, he walked up and hugged Y/N.
"Bloody hell." He said. "Are you lot alright?"
"We're all fine, Mr. L/N." Harry said.
"We got lost in the woods." Heather continued.
"Damn Death Eaters." Thomas muttered before he turned to us and smiled. "I'm happy you all are unharmed."
"Thanks, Uncle." Y/N said.
"Out of the way!" A cold voice said, revealing itself to be Barty Crouch. "Which one of you conjured the Dark Mark?"
"We didn't do that!" Harry said.
"We didn't do anything!" Ron added.
"What the hell did you attack us for?" Heather said.
"Do not lie!" Crouch shouted. "You have been discovered at the scene of the crime!"
"Barty, you can't be serious." Thomas said.
"They're kids." A witch added. "They'd never have been able to-"
"Where did the Mark come from?" Mr. Weasley said to us.
"Over there." I said as I scooted closer to Y/N. "There was someone behind the trees.....they shouted words—an incantation—"
"Oh, stood over there, did they?" Crouch said. "Said an incantation, did they? You seem very well informed about how that Mark is summoned, missy-"
"Mione was with me the whole time!" Y/N exclaimed . "If you really think that she conjured that, you're about as stupid as you look."
"Yes! We got them! Someone shouted. "There's someone here! Unconscious! It's—but—blimey.."
"You've got someone?" Crouch asked. "Who? Who is it?"
Mr. Diggory came back with a small body in his arms, revealing itself to be none other than....Winky the house-elf.
"Bit embarrassing." Mr. Diggory said. "Barty Crouch's house-elf...I mean to say.."
"Oh, come off it, Amos." Thomas said. "You don't seriously think it was the elf? The Dark Marks a wizard sign. It requires a wand."
"Well, she has a wand."
"What?"
"Here, look." Mr. Diggory said as he held up a wand. "Had it in her hand. So that's clause three of the Code of Wand Use broken, for a start. No non human creature is permitted to carry or use a wand."
Suddenly, Ludo Bagman apparated in and started asking questions about the Dark Mark. Crouch looked to Mr. Diggory, who pointed his wand at Winky and said, "Rennervate!"
Winky opened her eyes and looked around in confusion. "Elf!" Mr. Diggory bellowed. "Do you know who I am? I'm a member of the Department of Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures! As you see, elf, the Dark Mark was conjured here a short while ago! And you were discovered moments later, right beneath it! An explanation if you please!"
"I—I is not doing it, sir!" Winky said. "I is not knowing how, sir!"
"You were found with a wand in her hand!" Mr. Diggory yelled as he held up the wand. Harry seemed to recognize it and he said,
"Hey, that's my wand!"
"Excuse me?" Mr. Diggory said.
"That's my wand! I dropped it!"
"You dropped it? Is this a confession? You threw it aside after you conjured the Dark Mark?"
"Amos, think!" Thomas exclaimed. "I'd Harry Potter likely to conjure the Dark Mark?"
"I is not doing magic with it, sir!" Winky cried. "I is.....I just picking it up sir! I is not making the Dark Mark, sir, I is not knowing how!"
"It wasn't her!" I said. "Winky's got a squeaky little voice, and the voice we heard doing the incantation was much deeper!"
I looked as Y/N for reassurance as he squeezed my hand. "It didn't sound anything like Winky, did it?"
"Not at all." Y/N said. "The voice was a human male."
"Well, we'll soon see." Mr. Diggory said. "There's a simple way of discovering the last spell a wand performed performed, elf, did you know that?"
"You know, you could stop being an arse and call her by her name." Y/N muttered.
"Prior Incantato!"
A smaller version of the mark flew out of the wand. "Deletrius!" Mr. Diggory said. "You've been caught red-handed, elf! Caught with the guilty wand in your hand!"
"Regardless," Mr. Crouch said. "Despite of Winky not performing the Dark Mark. She did not listen to her master to stay put. And that means...."
"No!" Winky cried. "Not clothes!"
"Clothes."
"Clothes?" Y/N asked.
"If you give a house elf clothes, they'll be set free."
"So let me get this straight." Y/N said. "Let me see if I heard you correctly, you're telling us...that because Winky didn't follow your orders, you sacked her?"
"Yes boy!" Crouch said coldly. "That is exactly what I said."
"Don't take any offense to what I say here, sir." Y/N said. "But that is the most stupidest thing you could have ever done. Winky was scared, just like everyone else!"
"You can't blame her for wanting to get out of their way!" I said.
"I have no use for a house-elf who disobeys me." Crouch said. "I have no use for a servant who forgets what is due to her master, and her masters reputation."
"You sick son of a bitch." Heather added as Mr. Weasley glared at her.
Winky was crying uncontrollably as Mr. Weasley and Thomas led us back to the tents.
"What's going to happen to Winky?" I asked.
"I don't know, Hermione." Thomas said. "Hopefully she can find work elsewhere."
"The way they were treating her!" I said angrily. "Mr. Diggory calling her 'elf' all the time...and Mr. Crouch! He knows she didn't do it and he's still going to sack her!"
"He didn't care how scared she'd been, or how upset she was." Y/N added. "It's like she wasn't even human!"
"Well, she's not." Ron said, which caused Heather to smack the back of his head.
"Doesn't mean she hasent got feelings, Ron." She said. "It's disgusting the way—"
"Hermione, Y/N, Heather, I agree with you." Mr. Weasley said. "But now is not the time to discuss elf rights. I want to get back to the tent as fast as we can."
When we arrived back to the tent, The older Weasleys went to talk about the events that had just transpired.
"It's very late." Mr. Weasley said. "And if your Mother hears about what happened, she'll be worried sick. We'll get a few more hours of sleep and try to get an early Portkey out of here."
"Sounds wonderful." Heather said as she led the way to our bunks before jumping into her bed.
A few minutes after me and Y/N had gotten into our bed, I was unable to fall asleep.
"Hey." Y/N said as he propped his elbow before resting his head on his hand. "Everything okay?"
"Those Death Eaters, they hurt Muggles...right?" She asked. "That's what you said."
"Unfortunately, yes." He replied.
"That's really what scares me the most." I said. "Being a Muggle born, and coming from a Muggle family."
Y/N took my hand and brushed a stray hair away from my face. "Hey, none of them are coming after you or your family." He said softly. "Over my dead body, and I'll make sure of it."
I just wanted to kiss him right now. Hearing how determined he was to protect me made me want to kiss him right on the lips, but I wrapped his arms around his torso and held him close.
"Thank you, Y/N." I said.
"Anything for you, Mione." He replied. "Let's get some sleep."
"Goodnight."
Y/Ns POV
The day after our disaster at the World Cup, we arrived back at the Burrow. As we walked up to the door, Mrs Weasley found her arms around her husband as a copy of the Daily Prophet was dangling from her hand.
"Oh thank goodness, thank goodness." She exclaimed. "Oh, Arthur—-I've been so worried—-so worried—"
She then pulled Fred and George into a tight hug after she made sure all of us were okay. "Ouch! Mum—you're strangling us!"
"I shouted at you before you left!" She cried. "It's all I've been thinking about! What if You-Know-Who had got you, and the last thing I ever said to you was that you didn't get enough O.W.Ls? Oh Fred....George."
"Come on, now Molly, we're all perfectly okay." Mr. Weasley said. "Bill, pick up that paper, I want to see what it says..."
Hermione and Heather went to go make some tea for everyone, while Mr. Weasley insisted on some Firewhiskey. After the night we've had, I can't blame him in the slightest.
He then went on to read and article exposing the scene by Rita Skeeter and also insisted on going back to work, to which Percy wanted to go back too. Mrs Weasley had gotten our things from Diagon Alleg, as well as Heather's things for her upcoming year at Beaubaxtons, where she had put them in our rooms.
Me, Harry, Hermione, and Ron went up to the attic, but as Ron shut the door to the attic, Harry said, "There's something I haven't told you three. On Saturday morning, I woke up with my scar burning."
We all gasped at this revelation. "But—he wasn't there, was he? You-Know-Who? I mean—last time your scar was hurting, he was at Hogwarts, wasn't he?" Ron asked.
"I'm sure he wasn't on Privet Drive. But I was dreaming about him...him and Peter—-you know, Wormtail. I can't remember all of it now, but they were plotting to kill.....someone."
I walked over to my bag, and pulled my crystal ball out of it, gaining the others attention as I walked back.
"I've been seeing things too. Visions, if you will." I said as the other looked at me.
"You've had a Crystal Ball this entire time, and haven't told my of us?" Ron asked.
"Not the point, Ron." Harry said as he turned to me. "What were they about."
"A bit similar to yours." I said. "But I saw a graveyard. With massive tombstone. It was like some sort of a flash, But there's one thing I can't exactly decipher..."
I waved my hand over the surface of the ball, revealing an image that I just can't seem to get my head around.
"What do you see, Y/N?" Hermione asked nervously as she gripped my hand.
"It's some sort of Goblet." I said. "And there's fire spewing out the top."
