Chapter 6: You're my secret
//
"Here you go." Harry said as he handed me a cup of water. I chugged the water while Harry sat down on the couch again.
"Damn, you really were thirsty." He said laughing.
"Yeah, why else would I ask for a cup of water?" I answered and rolled my eyes jokingly.
Harry and I were watching some series we had started ages ago. It wasn't bad, but Harry and I weren't really the ones to binge watch series - we'd rather watch movies. I heard footsteps behind me and turned around to see Tom walking down the stairs. When he saw me he granted me a smile and gave me a wink. I blushed and turned around to face the TV. Although the volume on the TV was quite high, I heard everything happening in the kitchen. Since we had been at the lake I couldn't seem to get my mind off of him. We had kissed and the fact that he had even brought me there.. I couldn't think of nothing but how sweet and pleasant he had been. The sound of the fridge opening and his grunt when he found out Harry and I had taken the last bit of milk made me look back at him. Harry nudged me and told me to pay attention to the TV. I heard Tom laugh from the kitchen and I rolled my eyes. Tom started coughing - an evident fake cough.
"Hey! We're trying to watch something, can you please shut up?" Harry said and threw one of Tessa's toys at Tom.
When Harry looked away I sent Tom a questioning look. He pointed at his phone and indicated he was gonna text me something. I pulled out my phone and waited for him to send the message. He was typing slowly and impatiently I looked at him and mimed "what?". Then my phone beeped and I had received the text.
T - Wanna go have some fun today?
I looked at Tom and he sent me puppy eyes. Why did he want to hang with me? This whole Tom thing was new to me, but I couldn't resist and answered.
Y/N - Sure, when and where?
T - Now, just get up and go with me
No, not now. Also I don't want Harry to know.
Y/N - Come pick me up at my house in 1 hour? Don't tell Harry!
"Why not." Tom then said and made my heart skip a beat.
"Who are you talking to?" Harry asked and we both turned to face him.
I sent Tom a strict 'shut up' look and he started laughing. I didn't know what he was about to say and I'm sure it wasn't gonna be "no one" so I interrupted;
"Anyways, I have to go now Harry."
"What, why? You've got a boyfriend?" He questioned jokingly.
"No!" I said a little too defensively and continued; "I mean no, I have to.. I have to go grab coffee with a friend."
A light pink blush appeared on my cheeks and I felt Tom smirk at me from the kitchen.
"You don't like coffee? And since when have you got friends?" Harry said and laughed. My face turned red as Tom still was standing in the kitchen listening to me and Harry's conversation.
"No but seriously, what friend?" Harry added when he stopped laughing.
"It doesn't matter, I'm in a bit of a hurry." I said and got up from the couch.
"I'll see you later, bye." I yelled as I ran out the door.
——
"Luke come here now." I yelled from my room.
Luke came running, finally after 5 minutes of calling. I asked him which outfit he thought I should wear. He has got a great sense of style. I couldn't choose between my yellow shirt and shorts or my new green summer dress. Luke pointed to the dress and quickly ran back to his fortnite or what else he was doing in his room. I put on the dress, some white sneakers and some chapstick. My phone beeped and Tom was here. I quickly sprayed on some perfume and ran to the door.
"Bye." I yelled to Luke and without an answer I closed the door and walked to Tom's car.
"So where are we going?" I said excitedly but also a little anxious. I had never been on a date before - if that's even what it was.
"You'll see." He said and moved his sunglasses from his eyes.
"You look good." He then said, put them on again and started the car. I blushed and then turned to look out the window.
——
"We're here." Tom said and parked the car. I got out of the car and looked around.
"Are we going golfing?" I asked frowning.
"Yes. You don't want to?" Tom questioned and I turned to look at him. His anxious face made me feel bad for acting like that.
"Yes, I do. I'm sorry, it just.. brings up a lot of.. memories." I said, making him relax.
"What memories?" He looked concerned and it almost made me weak. How adorable.
"It's nothing important." I said and smiled, avoiding the sadness.
My mum used to love golfing. Or so my dad told me. She had left my brother, dad and I just after Luke was born 12 years ago. I don't remember much of her as I was only 5 when she left. That's also why Nikki has been such a big part of my life.
I didn't want to play the 'have pity on me' card though so I avoided telling Tom.
"Alrighty. Come, it'll be fun. I promise." Tom said and grabbed my hand.
"So, wanna go first?" Tom asked gesturing to the golf ball he had thrown on the course.
"I, um.. I don't know how." I said and tried to smile the embarrassment off of me. I knew Tom had a passion for golf and was good at it and that made me very nervous.
"Are you kidding me? Okay you can go home now." He said making my mouth drop. Wondering if he was serious I frowned.
"Hey I'm kidding. I'll help you." He said and started laughing. I shoved his shoulder making him laugh even more.
"You should've seen your face."
I pouted and knocked his cap off of his head making his curls fall. Damn those curls.
"Get your sulking ass over here so I can help you." He said as serious as he could, picking up his cap. I got over there like a puppy and did as he said.
"Now move your legs a few more inches apart from each other. Bend your knees a little and bend a little forward. A little less knee bending. Jesus Christ." He instructed standing in front of me keeping an eye on every little mistake I did.
He went behind me placing his hands on my hips helping me get in position. The touch of his hands sent chills down my spine. He kept on positioning me not knowing how he made me feel.
"Now here." He said grabbing a golf club and handed it to me. Totally clueless of how to hold it I shrugged.
"Are you not going to help me?" I asked.
He smirked. Something in his eyes told me he wasn't going to help me just like that.
"Hmm. Since I'm basically your teacher, don't I have some sort of pronounce?" He asked standing with crossed arms.
"What d'you mean?" I questioned totally confused. He stepped closer to me bending down to whisper something in my ear.
"What do you usually call your teachers?" His breath against my skin formed a smile on my face.
"You're weird." I giggled. "Gonna help me, sir?" I repeated, turning my head to face him. He smirked and got behind me grabbing my hands on the golf club. I felt my body heating at the feeling of his hands on mine.
We golfed for a while and I would actually say that I quite got the hold of it at last. Even though I lost and wasn't happy with it. I'm not a good sport and poutingly got into the car.
"So, ice cream?" Tom said as he got into the car, still laughing about me being a bad loser.
"Only if you pay." I hummed while looking out the window.
"Look at me when you're talking to me darling." He said, his dominant side I didn't know he had showing. I kept looking out the window, starting to like teasing him.
"Look at me." He said and grabbed the back of my head, forcing me to look at him. I closed my eyes sticking my tongue at him. He let go of my face, started the car and drove off. I'm sure he's used to getting things his way. Not with me.
——
"So you're paying I guess." I said as I saw the ice cream shop a few yards from the car.
"Then I would like my cap back." He said making me pout as I handed it to him.
We got out of the car and made our way to the shop.
"Omg." I exclaimed just before getting in the shop.
"What's wrong?" Tom asked trying to figure where I was looking.
"Um.. can't you just order and I'll wait over here?" I questioned with puppy eyes.
"Why? What's wrong?"
"It's nothing." I said. Tom pressed a finger against my chin making me look at him. I sighed.
"Tailor is standing in the shop. I can't go in there with you. She would totally tell Harry and make my life a living hell." I said.
"Aw c'mon I can't be that bad." He said jokingly, but stopped laughing as I shot him a look.
"Fine what you want?" He added making me smile.
"Cookie dough." I said nudging him in the ice cream shop. He grunted, but went in.
After a few minutes he came out with my ice cream.
"Vanilla?? That's basic." I teased him when I saw his choice of ice cream.
"So what? I can't always be intriguing. Girls wouldn't stop seeking me then." He answered making me nudge him.
I grabbed my ice cream and we walked down the street to the beach. It was getting kinda late and the sun was on its way down.
"Wow it's beautiful." I said looking at the red/orange/yellow sunset. I felt Tom gaze at me and unconsciously I bit my lip.
"Stop making me-" Tom started but I quickly interrupted him. I pulled him behind a festival toilet.
"What are you doing?" He questioned confused.
"Harry is right there." I said pointing to Harry walking down the beach with his skateboard in his hands.
"Oh so you don't wanna get caught." Tom said with a smirk.
"Oops he's looking." He added and quickly turned me around and pinned me against the wall. A shiver was sent through my body.
"What do you think you're doing?" I asked teasingly with a smirk and he quickly put his hand before my mouth.
"You don't want to get caught do you?" He smirked. I shook my head no. He removed his hand and pressed his lips against mine. He kissed me softly, cupping my cheek with his right hand still holding me against the wall with the left. He slowly pulled away and looked around.
"Yep, no Harry." He said letting me go as if it was just a stunt for hiding me.
I smiled at him but then I was hit by guilty conscience. It's not like I enjoy hiding something from my best friend. I knit my brows and unlock my eyes from Tom's.
"Why that face darling? Are you hiding something from me? A secret?" He smirked and ran a hand through his hair. I shook my head no.
"Use your words darling." He said, his dominant side showing again
"Thomas, you are my secret."
