(HAPPY NEW YEAR YA'LL AHHHHH I HOPE YA'LL MAKE IT A GOOD ONE <3)
I spent the remainder of my left-over time going over what I heard König say, or at least what I thought I heard him say. My hands were folded tightly as I sat deep in thought. I looked down momentarily, seeing the silhouette of König's jacket sprawled out on my lap. 'He forgot his jacket.' My thoughts were cut short when I caught a glimpse of the time, it was almost time to head to the training field. I didn't want to risk being late as that would be an embarrassing introduction to my team. I stood up, pushing my chair away from me with the backs of my knees.
I stepped out from behind my desk, clutching König's jacket close to my chest with my arms. I paused, scanning my office to see if I left anything behind; before walking out of my office and locking it behind me. I made my way to the stairs, not wanting to wait the extended amount of time for that dammed elevator to arrive. I pushed open the door, trotting my way down the stairs before arriving at the exit door that led to the open training field. I paused, wondering if me putting on König's jacket would be considered appropriate. 'Oh well, I'll give it back to him when I see him. I'll just tell him I needed to use it. Yeah, yeah that'll work. Totally not weird that his lieutenant was about to wear his jacket.'
I heaved a labored sigh, shaking my head to rid it of my thoughts as I threw his jacket over my shoulders, sliding my arms into the sleeves of it. It did everything but fit me in the slightest. It dangled over my knees and hung off my arms in excessive amounts of slack. 'Jeez this guy is huge'. I hobbled closer to the exit door, trying to fix the jacket to where I'd actually be able to move in it. After some time of fighting with both me and the jacket, I finally fixed it; just enough so that I could move comfortably without it getting caught on my knees. I sucked in a deep breath before pushing open the heavy metal door, it complied with a loud squeak as I stepped out from behind it; slamming shut after I let go of it.
The chilly wind slapped me across the face almost instantly. I clutched my arms around my sides. 'Glad I decided to wear the damn jacket.' I looked up, examining the training field. Half of my team was already there. That half being Roze and König. They were having a conversation that seemed somewhat intense. I stayed put, not daring to wonder close to them. I examined König. He didn't have a jacket.
'Wasn't he cold?' Almost as if he had heard my thoughts, he shifted his attention to me as he looked up from Roze; she followed his gaze; waving when she made eye contact with me. I waved back at them, a smile plastered on my face. Before I could think to do anything else, I caught a glimpse of König jogging towards me. I froze, watching as he made his way over to me. 'He's probably coming to get his jacket, I guess I'm really going to freeze. This is so embarrassing; I really should bring my jacket today. Should I take it off? Yeah. Yup. I should take this off. It was stupid of me to even put it-' He reached me surprisingly fast.
His eyes roamed my body, seemingly devouring me with those sunken eyes of his. "You're wearing my jacket..." He trailed off, his eyes not leaving me for even a second, something flashed in them; but was gone in a heartbeat. I looked down, escaping his eye contact. "Yeah, I'm sorry I'll take it off-" He cut me off, his large hand cupping mine as he softly stopped me from pulling off his jacket. His hand was surprisingly warm. "No no, why? It's cold out here! You'll catch a cold Liebling!" He spoke so fast I thought he started speaking German. Which he did.
I stood there, motionless as he dropped his hand from mine. "Aren't you cold König?" I finally asked. The corners of his eyes seemed to lift, almost as if he was smiling. "No, I am used to the cold Ms. Belle." His tone was light and soft. I looked down, feeling slightly dumb that I even asked that question.
I remembered that Kortac's base was in the mountains. It was always cold there so this type of weather probably felt good to him. He kept his gaze on me as I started to fix his jacket so that it would fit me again. It was then that I realized just how tall he really was. He literally towered over me till the point it wasn't even funny. Just then the metal door that led outside, creaked open. The sound of gravel being crushed underneath a lot of boots, piqued my curiosity.
Must be Simon and his team. I rolled my eyes at the thought. Still fighting with the zipper, I looked up; expecting to see that König had moved away to somewhere else. But he hadn't. He still stood towering over me, now looking out into the distance at something. I looked back down, focusing on the now jammed zipper. "Belle." A raspy accented voice called out to me from behind König.
I looked up at him again, he seemed not to hear it; if he did then he was one dammed good actor. I stared into space, straining my ears to listen for the sound of my name being called again. It never was. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Simon appear out of nowhere as he marched up towards me. Just as it seemed like he was about to say something, König shifted his body, blocking my view of Simon completely. His body was like a barricade of some sort. I glanced up at him for a brief second and I saw it; that emotion in his eyes that I just couldn't put a name to.
"König......? Are you okay?" His head shot down to look at me and his eyes seemed to become free from whatever emotion that was in them before as they were back to being sunken with a hint of softness in them. "Ah yes, sorry Liebling. I was stretching! Ha-Ha." He brought his hand around to scratch the back of his neck as he looked to the side. I tilted my head, raising a brow; "Really?" I earned a few more nervous chuckles from him before he went silent.
I stepped to the side of König to see a twitching, rage seeping Simon. The sight itself was quite funny but I had to remain professional. "Simon? What's up." I asked, kind of lost on why he was acting like this. His eyes suggested that he was beyond pissed. "Get your soldiers. We start in 5." His accent was thicker than ever as he gritted out those words.
I nodded before looking back down at the jammed zipper. I kept my gaze down as I spoke, "König, go get ready with the rest of the team. I'll be there in a bit." I kept my voice harsh and demanding and he listened; even though it seemed like he wanted to protest my orders. I heard his boots crushing the gravel beneath them as he walked away. I lifted my head up to watch him walk away but my gaze was interrupted by Simon who had stepped in front of me; taking the spot that König was once standing in. "Lieutenant Riley?" I kept my tone free from emotion as I stared at him, "To what do I owe you for this up-close-and-personal visit?" He scoffed, easing closer.
"Don't think I forgot what happened this morning." I shifted the weight in my legs as I craned my neck backwards to look at him. "Please, do remind me of what happened." Was this his way of catching a fit? I replied, slightly amused. "And again, just now." he continued. 'What the hell is he talking about? ' "That soldier of yours needs to learn his fucking place," He spat. "Which soldier and what did he do Simon?" An impatient sigh left my lips.
He scoffed again, darting his eyes to the side before leaning back closer to me. I took a step back and he took a step forward. "You know who I'm talking about." After a while of me not responding and looking at him like he was not mentally sane; he took in a lengthy whiff of breath, pinching the bridge of his nose in between his two gloved fingers before continuing. "König, Belle. I'm talking about König." I didn't even get a chance to say anything before he continued talking.
"Look Belle, I don't know what you're encouraging that twat to do, but you need to put him in his place, or I will." And with that he turned and walked away. I shrugged it off. It's not like he didn't have a problem with anything and everything that was new. I, of all people was used to it by now. Finally, I got the dammed zipper to work again and with that I made my way over to my group. I stopped by one of the weapon crates to peep at the schedule.
In bold, it read 'Sniper Training' as the first thing to be completed. 'Not my favorite'. A labored groan escaped my lips as I turned on my heel to go over to my group for real this time. I stopped in between Roze and Horangi; with König standing in front of me. Each person moved over to create a small circle between the 4 of us. Roze turned to me and asked, " So what are we starting off with for practice today?" She seemed amped up and ready to go as she flexed her knuckles.
I looked at her reluctantly before answering, "......Sniper training." I heard Horangi release a loud puff of air from his mouth, seemingly frustrated. Roze's face was contorted with what I believed to be horror, and a low and soft chuckle came from König as I looked up at him. His eyes were smiling down at mine.
Of course, he loved anything that had to do with sniping....
