ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ 6: ɢᴏᴏᴅʙʏᴇ ʀɪʟᴇʏ
I stood up, launching myself up and out of my chair; it rolled back hitting the wall behind me. König's jacket fell from chest. I caught it in my hand and gripped it. I stared straight ahead at my door. Simon stared back at me as he stood in my doorway. I watched König in my peripheral look up from his hands to me. It was as if he was studying my face.
His gaze shifted from my face to the hand that was clutching his jacket. Sorry König's jacket. He kept his back towards the door, and part of me was thankful for that as things were probably going to get ugly. Not that anything was ever pretty whenever me and Simon crossed paths. "What is it that you want Ghost?" My tone was cold, and void of any emotion as I spat out his code name, earning a wince from him. He wasn't going to get a reaction out of me that easily.
"Good morning, Belle, seems you forgot your manners for the second time." He kept a humorous tone, seemingly mocking me. He was mocking me. "This is coming from the person who literally kicked my door down. Right, seems like the billion-dollar question is where are your manners?" I said, rolling my eyes, keeping my same tone. I crossed my arms, now cradling König's jacket.
I glanced down at König to see that he was already staring at me. He was trying to read my face. I gave him a brief smile before shifting my attention back to Simon, who was now making his way over to my desk. The sound of his boots hitting my wooden floor created an ambiance that was so dizzying and so intoxicating, it started to make me feel nauseous. He strode past König's chair up to my desk. He spoke, "You've gotten quite bold over the years, yeah Belle?" His voice was low and raspy.
He huffed a chuckle, grinding the heels of his palms into my desk. He leaned forward, the outline of his textured mask almost hitting me. I jumped back a step, earning another chuckle from him. He raised himself upward leaning more toward me. I took in a deep breathe, closing my eyes, "What is it that you need Simon?" I exhaled, opening my eyes again. His eyes never shifted from mine as he stared into my soul. I felt a bead of sweat roll down my back.
There was a long pause as he didn't say anything. I glanced over to my clock before speaking, "There's a little more than an hour left before we are scheduled to meet, I will be on time if that's what you're worried about." I glanced back at him as he stood there, still leaning over my desk. He completely blocked my line of view as all I could see was him and only him. Just then, I saw König's head shift forwards; suggesting that he was getting up. I met Simon's gaze again.
I dropped my arms down by my sides, "Uh hello? What the hell do you want Simon?" I said now flailing my arms. I was growing more impatient by the minute. He ignored me; his eyes shifted to the side as he tilted his head. König stood to his full height and extended a handout to touch Simon's shoulder. I looked up at him. His mask casted a shadow over his eyes.
He took a step towards Simon; he completely towered over him. Simon shot me a glare before pushing himself off my desk, turning towards König. He had to look up to König which I found quite funny. I stifled a laugh, focusing on the two giants in front of me. König bent down, whispering something to Simon. Whatever König said was enough to piss Simon off. So much so that it ended up in Simon storming out of my office and König turning around to watch him leave.
The door slammed closed behind him; causing my body to jolt a bit. Me and König stood in silence, listening to the sound of Simon's boots as he angrily stomping down the hall. After a while, everything went completely silent. I let a shaky breath escape my lips, one that I didn't even know I was holding in. König finally turned to face me. His gaze was directed toward the floor, he seemed nervous. I was about console him and thank him but as I opened my mouth random; nervous burst of laughter erupted from my body.
My hands flew to my mouth, desperately trying to stop myself. But I couldn't stop. I clutched my belly, laughing. After some time, I composed myself. Wiping the tears that had escaped my eyes. "Sorry, Sorry" I put my hand in the air waving to König as I caught my breath. I finally stopped giggling, pulling my chair from off the wall behind me. I plopped down in it, placing König's jacket in my lap. I looked up towards him.
He was standing off to the side, unsure of whether to sit back down. "König?" I spoke. He looked up at me, his eyes were low and sullen. "You're not going to sit?" I extended my arm out towards the chair that he was once sitting at. He glanced where I was pointing, then back at me. "You....want me to sit?" His German accent tickled my ears.
He seemed as if he was asking me whether or not I wanted him to stay. "Yes, of course I want you to sit." I gave him a small smile, pointing again to the chair that he once sat in. He huffed before walking over to his chair and sitting down again, he kept his gaze on me instead of the floor. I started again, "So um, thank you for getting him out of here.
Simon, I mean." He glanced at the ground. "......You're welcome." He said in a voice so low and heavily accented, I barely caught what he even said. Silence engulfed my office as neither of us said anything for a nice while.
That is until he spoke up, "Does he bother you often?" His voice was laced with an emotion I couldn't put a name to. "Yeah, he's always been a dick to me." I looked down at my lap, examining König's jacket. "Oh." Was all he said. I looked up again, meeting his gaze. "But you helped me, so I'm in debt to you."
I paused before continuing. "Thank you, König." I huffed a laugh, "You have no idea how long I've wanted to get that same reaction out of him." I crossed my arms, leaning back in my chair. "What is it that you desire, my savior?" I said with a teasing tone. "It's the least I can do to pay you back." I waited for his response patiently, I held the eye contact with him before he broke it, looking down.
While I waited, I thought of possible answers that he might give me. Would he ask for a few days off? A vacation? A trip back home? My thoughts were interrupted when I heard him mumble something. "You."
Huh?
"Oh, sorry I meant to ask if you'd give me some time to think it over." He said, standing from his chair. "Sure, take your time." I smiled up at him while he stood to his full height. "Well, I must get going now, I will see you later LT Belle." He said, turning around and heading towards my door. He waved at me as he opened the door; before ducking and walking out. He closed it softly, leaving me to drown in my thoughts.
Did I hear that correctly......?
