Down into the caves

✍︎

You wandered into the forest of an island that you'd never heard of, hadn't it been for your mother's notes. Her dying wish was that you would save this little patch of life, and you promised her so you would hold to your word. The forest on the island was bustling with life and different sounds that both scared and intrigued you. You walked further and further away from the coast, then suddenly stopped. A boulder lay in your way, blocking the path of entering a cave that probably laid behind the stone. You sighed and studied it, looking for something to open it.

Soon you found a lever, and you nudged it. It didn't do much other than make the boulder rumble. You shrugged and tried again, this time harder. This time the boulder groaned and moved out of the way. You looked into the darkness behind, seeing something glow king on the other side. With a deep breath, you entered the cavern and let the pull of something drag you there. You then noticed the necklace of a bluestone glimmered against your chest. You frowned but let the draw lead the way. You came to a cavern full of stalagmites and stalactites, like a little river running through it all.

You hummed in thought and went over to the river seeing no plants decrying the Barton. You sighed and sat down, taking from your pouch and food.

After sitting there for a while, you heard the sound of talons against the rock, and you got curious. The necklace glowed now as if it was falling on whatever creature would reveal itself soon. And soon enough, you saw a beast covered in scales. The beast stared at you for a while, then came closer. To your and its confusion. "Who are you?" The beast asked, and you gasped. I can understand a fricking dragon! Mother is going to die when she hears this, you thought and suttted froth some few trying words.

"I- my name is auroa. I'm a scavenger. Though..." should I tell him that im not from here? You thought. It's best like that. He seems like a dragon I can trust. "Im not from this land," you said, and the dragon tilted its head. "What? I mean, there are no more islands than Pyrrhia. What I know of at least... oh, my name is Clay," he said, and you nodded. "Well, it's an honor to meet you, Clay" the dragon smiled and sat down. "So tell me about this country of yours," he said, and you started to tell him about your homeland. Clay was an easy dragon to talk to. He never interrupted and nodded along to your words.

Much easier than your friends back home.

"Well, it's time I go to bed. Wanna come?" Clay asked, and you gave him a puzzled look. He chuckled and opened his wings in a gesture for you to follow him. "I'm sure my friends would love you," he suddenly said as you neared what your beloved was in the sleeping caves. You chuckled nervously, hoping that he was telling the truth. "Here we are," he said and entered a cave. You followed, looking around cautiously in case there were any other dragons.

Luckily it wasn't. "Oh, you're probably looking for my friends. Don't worry; they won't hurt you." Clay said, smiling sweetly, then curled up on his ledge. You sighed and found a spot where you could lay. But even before you could slip into the land of dreams, you felt someone picking you up and placing you beside a warm body. You didn't bother to see nor ask, so you fell asleep, unaware of the warm brown eyes that looked warmly at you. "Soon Auroa, soon," a voice said and laid its head aorund you, so you were laying against his stomach.
