chapter6

6—familiar

---.ᴥ︎ᴥ︎ᴥ︎ᴥ︎.---

Mirae finds herself walking alongside Jungguk under the thick canopy, through the forest.

She can't help but look around the dense woods, the woods clicking her as if she's seen them before.

Branches, canopies so thick; even sunlight could hardly penetrate, giving the forest a spooky, gloomy look.

But still, Mirae's eyes gleam with fascination, as they dance high and low through the forest.

As she moves forward, her mind dips into a trance, marking each and every detail of the woods, but being brought back to reality when she notices that Jungguk isn't present there beside her anymore.

She turns around to look for him; but he's nowhere to be found.

A sudden panic hits her heart; shivers travelling down her body.

"Jungguk?" she tries calling out to him, but her voice comes out rather a mere whisper.

"Jungguk!" she calls out a little louder this time.

Still no response.

"Jungguk, where are you?!" she cries.

"Don't leave me alone." She murmurs.

A sudden rustling of leaves from the opposite direction startles her.

She turns around to find-

-Jungguk, poking his head out from behind a thick tree, grinning like an idiot.

Mirae stomps over to him with angry steps, to stop right in front of him.

Jungguk expected a punch on his fore-arm or a good reprimanding from her.

But he is astonished to receive a tight hug from her instead.

Her arms tightly wrap around his shoulders and neck, like she does not want him to leave her or be even an inch away from her.

He slowly embraces her back, arms wrapping around her waist, so delicately, as if he was holding a baby.

"Mirae-ah?" he murmurs, still locked in her embrace.

She slightly pulls away to be able to look at him, but flushes heavily realising the almost non-existent proximity between them.

"Don't do that again." She whispers, hugging him again.

Jungguk can't help but chuckle due to her childishness.

"I won't, okay?" He assurez.
"I won't ever leave you again."

As they both pulls away, Jungguk lightly pecks her forehead and takes her hand.

"I found a place to sit. Wanna come?" he asks.

Mirae nods in agreement.

He turns around and pointed at a spot behind a nearby tree.

"There."
He saunters over to toward the place, Mirea following him.

He settles down, smiling, and patting the place beside him.

Mirae sits down beside him.

"Have you been here before?" Mirae breaks the silence.

Jungguk shakes his head.
"I haven't."

"How do you know the way then?"

"I don't know. Its just that, I know...somehow? It's like I know these woods, as if I've been here before, but I can't remember when." He sighs.

"I know its kinda lame, but-"
Mirae interrupts him.
"It isn't lame. I feel that too-like, I've been here before. But again, I can't remember when." She exhales.

"Is that why you wanted to come here? he asks, his voice feather-like soft.

Mirae smiles at him, a sad one.

"I guess?" she shrugs.

"Hmm."

"Okay." Jungguk stands up enthusiastically.

Mirea looks up at him, confused.

"Let's go. We have a long way ahead, right? Let's get moving then." He offers his hand to her, grinning.

She returns his beautiful gesture, his smile; and takes his hand to stand up.

"Let's go."

Jungguk intertwines his fingers with hers', this coming NG rather naturally to him, and starts walking in the direction, where cliffs were.

-

"We're here." Jungguk declares.

Both of them stand now, on the foot of the cliffs.

Mirae feels like touching the ancient rocks, the soil, which feels so very familiar.

She runs her fingers on the rough, uneven surface of the walls of the cliffs.

And can not help but wonder what the top of this cliff holds.

But as if she already knew, she picturizes the cliff with a house on top, and some town on the other lower side of it, the cherry on top being the fact it was just the replica of cliff she had dreamt about.

It's like all the pieces to some kind of a puzzle are coming together.

But a puzzle, she does not even know of.

"Do you think you are familiar with this place?" she asks Jungguk.

"Uh, I think so. But, I haven't been here, for as long as I can remember." He answers truthfully.

"Well, how much do you remember?"

"What do you mean?" he asks, tilting his head to the side.

"How much, of your childhood, do you remember?"

"U-uh, actually I don't remember my childhood. I mean its so vague that I can't make anything out of it. But I get those dreams-dreams of playing around with a kid, a girl, running around a beautiful fountain, on the grass. But then, I get nightmares too, it's like I'm falling, but from where and to where, I don't know. And it's like I've been here, many a times, but can't remember a single time here. Urgh, it's frustrating!" he exclaims, running his hands through his hair.

"I know." Mirae sighs. She has started to get what all these dreams, the familiarity she found in him and, the forest and the cliffs are about.
But she chooses to stay silent.

Better be sure than to take chances.

"What about you? It sure seems like you are familiar with the place too."

Mirae takes a while to answer.

"I don't know, but it surely reminds me of something." She answers.

As she looks ahead, at the giant cliffs, sunlight hitting her skin, making it glow like never before, thinking what to do next about the huge discovery she had just made, Jungguk stands there beside her, admiring her simplicity, which makes her even more beautiful and unique than she already was.

Innocence really makes a person beautiful.

And he drowns into the ocean of his own thoughts, consisting of questions like,

'Am I falling for this girl ?'
'But it's merely been two days.'
