CHAPTER THREE - THE EMPEROR TOSS

"I'M GETTING MARRIED."

Akiteru spits out his coffee that he was drinking in surprise. While Saeko squeals in excitement. "Tenma finally popped the question?" She asked as Takashi nodded.

"You okay, Akiteru?" Takashi asked.

Akiteru nodded. "Yeah. I'm just shocked at the news is all." He replied. "I thought I was over Taka a long time ago. But now, he's getting married..."

"I was shocked as well. Didn't expect Ten to ask me to marry him in our bedroom at our apartment." Takashi stated.

"Well, Tenma doesn't come off as the romantic type." Saeko said. "I volunteer to be your maid of honor."

"Spot was already saved for you." Takashi chuckled. "Now I have to decide who'll be my best man."

"You haven't decided?" Akiteru asked.

Takashi shook his head. "I have three candidates for the role: Ren, Tōru, and Tobio." He replied. "Though, Tobio and I aren't on the best terms. So that just leaves Ren and Tōru."

"Things might change between you and your brother before your wedding." Saeko reminded him. "You still got time."

"I also want him to meet Ten before then. If Ten is gonna be his soon-to-be brother in law I want them to meet since the last time they met was when he was young. Though, mine and Tobio's relationship needs to be fixed first." Takashi stated.

Takashi's phone chimed a second time that day as he lifted up a finger towards his two best friends. Both Akiteru and Saeko nodded in understanding. They both knew that Takashi was constantly busy since high school volleyball coaches always texted him.

Takashi looked at his phone, seeing two texts. One from Ukai and one from Irihata, Aoba Johsai's coach.

Irihata Nobuteru:
> Hello, Kageyama. I know you're a busy person, but if you have time, do you think you can stop by Seijoh's volleyball practice today? I want you to check up on the team's stats and numbers before the Inter-High, and Oikawa was mentioning this toss he wants you to teach him and Iwaizumi.

Kageyama Takashi:
I don't mind, Irihata. I'll stop by after my practice. It'll be nice to see Tōru again.  <

He sent his reply to Irihata and checked Ukai's text message.

Ukai Keishin:
> Are you gonna be attending Golden Week with us? It'll be nice to have you train them more before the match with Nekoma.

Kageyama Takashi:
Ah, sorry Keishin. I'm heading over to Seijoh later. Not to mention I have my own practices with my team. I would love to come along if I could. <

Ukai Keishin:
> I understand. You're a busy person. Will you at least be available to come to the match?

Kageyama Takashi:
I'll try to make it after practice. <

Takashi pocketed his phone in his hoodie and stood up. "It was nice seeing you two again after so long. But I better head to practice before Ren gets pissed." He said.

Saeko hugged him goodbye. "Don't be a stranger, Taka. Akiteru and I know you're busy but at least hang out with us once in a while." She stated.

"I will, Saeko. Don't worry." Takashi promised as he gave a nod to Akiteru and headed out of the coffee shop.

Once he left, Saeko looked at Akiteru with sympathy. She knew all about his crush on Takashi. "You okay, Akiteru? With Taka getting married to Tenma?" She asked.

"I thought I had gotten over my silly high school crush on him when we graduated. But I guess my love for him is still there. If only I had confessed to him back then. Would things be different now?" Akiteru replied. "Would I be the one getting married to him instead?"

Takashi arrived back to his apartment as he headed over to the bedroom. "You're back. How are Saeko and Akiteru doing?" Tenma asked.

Takashi got changed into his practice clothes. A black tank top and red shorts. "They're doing fine. I told them the news." He replied. "They were shocked but happy for me."

"I see. Did you ever find out what Akiteru wanted to tell you back in high school?" Tenma questioned.

"Huh? Now that I think about it. I never asked him. It sorta slipped my mind. Though, he did say it was nothing to worry about." Takashi responded, putting on his black and red volleyball jacket.

"I'm stopping by at Seijoh after practice. So I won't be home until late again." Takashi informed, kissing his fiance goodbye.

Takashi arrived at the building where his team practices as Matsuda ran to hug him. "Congratulations on your engagement, Taka!" The libero shouted.

"Eh? Yama-chan is engaged?" Miura asked, coming up from behind his captain and vice-captain.

"Yes, dumbass. So that means you can't flirt with him anymore! Don't wanna ruin your reputation if people find out you would go as far as to flirt with a married man!" Matsuda shouted as he kicked the red head.

"So mean, Matsu-chan!"

Takashi chuckled a little at his two friends and teammates. "Thank you. Ten is really special to me. He's my soulmate." He said.

"Are you going back to Karasuno after practice?" Matsuda asked.

Takashi shook his head. "I'm heading to Seijoh instead. The coach asked me to do a check up on his team's numbers and stats. Also, Tōru wanted me to teach him a toss." He answered.

"W-Wait, it's not that toss is it, Yama-chan?" Miura questioned.

"It is."

Miura sighed. "He's screwed."

"I'm heading over to Nekoma after practice. Say hi to the current team and give pointers." Matsuda stated. "And I'm not surprised Seijoh's coach wants you for your ability. It's pretty amazing."

"Speaking of..." Takashi said, scanning his best friend. Once he was done, he scanned Miura next. "Don't overwork yourself, Miura. You need to take care of that ankle." He informed.

"Y-Yes, Captain!"

After practice, Takashi arrived at Aoba Johsai. He entered the gym to find the players looking at him. "Oh, Kageyama. You're here." Irihata greeted.

"Taka-chan!"

The black haired male was suddenly knocked to the ground by a certain brunette. This brunette was his former student, Oikawa Tōru.

"Oi, Shittykawa! Don't kill Kageyama like that!"

Oikawa released Takashi as he set his volleyball bag down. He saw two familiar first-years looking at him.

"Kindaichi, Kunimi. It's nice to see you two again."

"It's nice to see you too, senpai." Kindaichi nodded respectfully. The two first-years had remembered Takashi when he would stop by Kitagawa Daiichi during their first-year to visit Oikawa.

"Hello, everyone. I'm Kageyama Takashi. Captain and setter for Japan's National Team. Your coach asked me to check your numbers and stats. So, please take off your shirts, it'll only take a few minutes." Takashi said.

The volleyball team complied as all of them took off their shirts. "At least they didn't freak out like the current team for Karasuno did." Takashi thought. He started off with their libero, Watari.

"His numbers are higher than Nishinoya's... That may be a problem for Karasuno if they go up against them during the Inter-High." Takashi thinks to himself.

"Watari, you take your libero position seriously, do you?" Takashi asked.

"Yes, senpai!" Watari replied. "Uh, how did you know I was a libero?"

"Your numbers are higher in your arms and legs. They're also higher than Karasuno's libero." Takashi replied. "I'm not saying he doesn't train, but you definitely train harder than he does."

"Karasuno?"

"Taka-chan is Tobio-chan's older brother. Not to mention he graduated from Karasuno. It's only natural for him to visit them." Oikawa stated. His fellow third-years looked at their captain in amazement. "Did you not know?"

"W-Wait, if he pays more attention to Karasuno. They have a chance to beat us with his training!"

"Nonsense." Takashi said, overhearing the conversation. "I'm a famous volleyball player. I give each school the same amount of training as well as the same amount of advice. The advice I'm giving you is the same advice I gave Karasuno's players."

Once Takashi was done scanning everyone, the players went to do their own thing while Takashi was with Iwaizumi and Oikawa. "Tōru, are you sure you want to learn the toss?" Takashi asked.

"I'm sure, Taka-chan." Oikawa replied.

"It's just—" Takashi started to say. "I'm not putting down your skills. But if this toss is done wrong or spiked wrong, Iwaizumi could get seriously hurt. Even Miura had a hard time learning it at first. It was the only spike Tenma could do perfectly. I just don't want to injure your ace before the Inter-High."

"Shittykawa can do it. I believe in him." Iwaizumi reassured him. "Now that I think about it, how come you're teaching him this special toss and not your brother? I would think you would want to teach it to him."

"Tobio isn't ready to learn it. Which is why I had to wait until now to teach Tōru it. As I strictly believe Tobio only wanted you to teach him since you learned from me." Takashi replied.

"Huh, never thought of it back then. But that does make sense." Oikawa muttered.

"Anyways, Iwaizumi. Can I borrow you for a minute?" Takashi asked as Iwaizumi nodded in reply. "Now Tōru, there's a reason that people call my famous toss the Emperor toss, and you're about to find out."

Takashi took the ball in his hands and raised it up. "First up, for this toss, I don't use my palms. I move my hands outward like this, only using my fingertips." He explained as he demonstrated it. "I start off with a normal toss the first time, letting it go in the air. When it goes towards my hands again, I switch to my fingertips and toss the ball backwards to the spiker."

"So how will I know when Shittykawa wants to use it?" Iwaizumi questioned.

"Watch his hands move." Takashi responded. "It's what I always told Ten, and we mastered it. Do you want to try it?"

Iwaizumi nodded. Takashi did a normal toss in the air. As the ball moved closer to his hands, he moved his hands outwards and used his fingertips to toss the ball a second time as he arched backwards. Iwaizumi was able to spike the ball over the net as the ball hit the wall on the other side, getting the rest of the team's attention.

"Did you see that?"

"Talk about a sadistic toss!"

"That was amazing! If Oikawa and Iwaizumi can perfect this, we just might be able to beat Shiratorizawa and go to Nationals!"

Takashi picked up the ball, tossing it to Oikawa who caught it. "Your turn now, Tōru. Do the same thing I did with Iwaizumi." He said.

Oikawa copied what Takashi did and Iwaizumi was able to hit the ball the second time. "Oh, that reminds me. Tōru, I'm getting married." Takashi informed.

"Eh? Your boyfriend finally asked you?" Oikawa questioned.

"Yeah. He asked me in our apartment in our bedroom." Takashi responded. "Tenma's not really the romantic type, so I didn't expect much."

"I'm happy for you. Though, aren't you a little young to get married, Taka-chan?" Oikawa asked. Takashi threw the volleyball he was holding to his head.

"I'm only 21 you ass!" Takashi shouted and scoffed. "Besides, Tenma and I have been together for 5 years. I think it's time to tie the knot."

"Have you told Tobio-chan yet?" Oikawa questioned.

Takashi sighed. "I haven't, and I don't think I'm going too. Our relationship has gone to shit ever since he was a child." He answered.

"He's bound to find out sooner or later." Iwaizumi said.

"I know... I know..."
