They say time is like a river.
It flows beautifully and so calmly one second and then it can all go wrong in a flash and wreck everything within its path.
Much like a mind that has nothing else to lose.
Losing something precious takes something from a person.
Some people lose their partner, their best friend, a mother, a father or even a beloved pet.
But Valentine Nitsune had lost something meaningful to her. She had lost her brother.
Her twin.
Her other half.
Grief is processed in many different ways. Most people mourn by denying the fact that the person is actually gone, others may feel shocked and wail in agony once hearing that a loved one had passed.
However.. the young blonde's mind processed this grief in a different way.
It snapped completely.

Electricity sparked and crackled, eyes of the ocean staring worriedly at the young blonde as Killua held live wires in his hand, the electricity traveling into his body and strengthening within his Nen.
Once bright and beautiful golden eyes were dull and void of any emotion, her eyes blank and a rusted tint coating her irises as she stared off into the distance.
He remembered how brutally she had attacked that Chimera Ant, almost reducing it into a puddle of blood and ripped apart sickly puddles of flesh had he not called out to her.
But seeing the empty look within her eyes, made him look down at the ground and a frown tugged at his lips as he gripped the wires tighter.
The scream that had left her lips when her brother— no.. her other half, had died in her arms, kept repeating in her mind over and over again, leaving a numbing sensation to rush through her body.
Biting his bottom lip, Killua stared at his girl for quite a while and breathed in shakily, knowing that she wasn't alright; based on the way she hadn't cleaned the blood from her face and hands from ripping that Chimera Ant to shreds.. and from her brother.
'..Val?'
Staring ahead emotionlessly, Valentine slowly began to walk out of the room and seeing this, Killua's eyes widened in sheer panic as he quickly let go of the wires, rising to his feet as he followed after her.
'Valentine, hold on!'
Rushing around the corner, Killua quickly slid to a stop and his eyes widened in horror, a small gasp leaving his lips as he quickly looked around.
Where'd—!?
Where the hell did his Val go!?

The small patter of footfall echoed throughout the hallway, dead and emotionless rust colored eyes staring ahead, her body moving as if it were on autopilot and not being controlled by her own actions.
The smell of iron was strong on her clothes and body, dried blood coating her cheeks and hands, her nails painted brown from the dried blood, sticking to her skin like a sickness.
As she rounded a corner, the young teenager kept her head down and continued to stare at the ground, her movements almost robotic; having no energy to them as her shoes scuffed and shuffled along the ground without a single care.
Seeing the teenager in a vulnerable state and deciding that she was an easy meal, a feral hiss left a Chimera Ant as it lunged at her, it's jaw wide and drool dripping from its teeth.
Head tilted down slightly, a shadow covered her face and Valentine slowly lifted her hand, before it moved faster than the ant could blink.
Strands of blonde hair flowed in the updraft of her quick attack, soulless darkened eyes of rust staring ahead aimlessly.
The warm and sticky feeling of blood splattering onto her face didn't defer the young girl or even make her flinch as the smell filled her nose.
So rotten and foul it would've made anyone gag.
Blood dripped from her fingers and to the ground, leaving small spots of blood amongst the once clean floor as she slowly walked forward, her steps slow but unfocused.
It was like a piece of her had been ripped out and she'd never get it back.
The sound of multiple footsteps rushing her way filled her ears and eyes of rust slowly turned towards the sounds, her gaze void of anything, watching as multiple, disgusting chimera ants rushed her way, their fangs bared and claws ready to rip into soft flesh.
Why couldn't they just leave her alone!?
Why couldn't they just let her mourn in peace.
Head tilted down, an ominous shadow crossed over the blonde's face and her hand moved so fast that the human eye couldn't see it.
A flash of metal was all that was seen before the sharp whistle of metal flying through the air was all that was heard, three daggers piercing the heads of three chimera ants, flaming eyes of rust snapped up and her body was nothing more than a blur, snaps filling the air as she twisted the other chimera ant's necks, their bodies hitting the ground at the same time.
Bodies littered the floor in ripped apart masses of blood and chunks of flesh, cracked and shattered fragments of bone were scattered across the ground in puddles of the red liquid, the small squish of the fluids and chunks being crushed underneath her boots as she walked filled the desolate hallway, lights flickering ominously overhead, casting an eerie shadow every few seconds every time she came back into view, darkened eyes staring ahead with a deadly flash.
She had killed the one who had murdered her brother, but her body wanted more.
More death.
More pain.
More blood.
Hearing a small creak from behind, the girl stopped and her head slowly turned to the side, glowing, darkened eyes of rust seemed to gleam darkly under the flickers of light, casting a murderous intent.
Pausing at the sight in front of him, Killua's ocean blue eyes widened slightly and slowly trailed along his girlfriend's body, his heart almost stopping as she was covered head to toe in blood.
'Val, what the hell—'
Rushing forward, Killua gently placed his hands on her arms and swiftly turned her around, before gently placing his hands on her cheeks, a frown on his face once he saw the dark look in her eyes.
It was like..
Like she wasn't even there anymore.
Almost like she was a shell of herself.
Eyes of the Atlantic began to sting as tears slowly filled them and Killua gritted his teeth before swiftly pulling his girl close and wrapping his arms around her tightly, his face nuzzled into her soft, blonde locks and his eyes were squeezed shut, water slowly trickling down his skin.
'I'm sorry.. I'm so sorry, if I could change things I would in a heartbeat for you. If I knew that this was how it would turn out—...'
A small, unavoidable sob broke through his lips and the silverette squeezed his eyes shut tighter, his arms tightening around Valentine as he held her closer to him, one of his hands gripping the back of her shirt and the other gripping her hair, keeping her close to him; but feeling that she didn't even try to lift her arms to hug him back shattered his heart.
If only he had been able to know what could've happened, he would've been able to help Jaxon. He could've stopped him from saving Val and had done it himself.
If he was quick enough, he'd be alive.
But he couldn't focus on that right now.
What he had to focus on was the beautiful girl in his arms.
Gritting his teeth, Killua leaned back and reached up, his hand swiftly; yet gently, gripped her chin and he forced her head up, making her darkened eyes stare up into his tearful blue eyes.
'Listen to me Valentine, I know that everything in you right now is hurting.. I know that losing Jaxon made you lose a part of yourself and you're just going on a killing spree without a care in the world, but baby..'
Frowning, he slowly moved his hand up from her chin and softly cupped her cheek, gently wiping away some of the sticky, blue blood of the ant's from her soft skin.
'..you know that this won't bring him back. Killing this recklessly, this.. emotionally, will get you killed and I wouldn't be able to handled that. Losing you.. losing you would break me, Val.'
Letting out a shaky breath, Killua slowly leaned forward and rested his forehead against her own, squeezing his eyes shut as his grip on her cheeks tightened slightly.
He wouldn't let her go.
He'd never let her go.
'You know that you're the best thing that's ever happened to me, right?',
Voice cracking emotionally, Killua couldn't stop the tears that slowly began to flow down his cheeks, his tear-filled blue eyes slowly opened as he stared into her dim, almost emotionless; yet still as beautiful as ever, golden eyes as they stared at him— almost as if they were staring right through him
'Gods Val, when I first met you—.. when I first met you, I thought you were pretty annoying to be honest, that bright smile and carefree giggle as if you were the happiest person in the world that not even a strand of darkness could touch, it used to annoy me so much'
A small, tearful chuckle left his lips and the silverette slowly let his thumbs caress her cheeks, not bothered by the amount of blood that stickily stuck to her skin; wanting to wash it away as soon as he could.
It looked so.. unnatural on her.
Her beautiful and sweet face once full of light, warmth and innocence now snuffed out with an unnatural darkness and numbness that he's never seen on her before.
And to be honest, it scared him a little bit.
It scared him to think that.. he was losing her.
'I thought to myself "this girl doesn't even know half of what's going on in the real world. She probably couldn't fight to save her life and I don't want her anywhere near me if I have to protect her all of the time". But I was wrong.. I was so wrong'
Sniffling, a tearful chuckle left Killua's lips and his thumbs continued to slowly caress Valentine's cheeks as her darkened, emotionless eyes stared at him; seeming to almost stare through him.
'Because that girl.. became the only reason to keep fighting. Valentine..', Sniffling once more, the silverette slowly pulled her closer and closed his eyes as their noses brushed, slowly nuzzling his nose against her own; wanting her to know that he was here, that he was there for her, 'You're my reason to keep fighting'
Another, broken sob left the teenager's lips and he swiftly tightened his arms around his girlfriend and pulled her close, burying his face in the crook of her neck as his hand gripped her beautiful blonde curls, tears rolling down his face as he held her.
Wanting nothing more than to hear her beautiful voice.
A voice that had once annoyed him when they first met, had become a symphony that he never wanted to lose and now that he didn't hear it, it broke his heart.
'So please, keep fighting..', As he spoke, Killua's voice cracked and sobs continued to leave him as he held her close, his grip so tight that no outside force could break it, '..for me.'
Sobs and hiccups filled the air as he held her as tightly and as closely as he could, not wanting to let her go for a single second, tears rolling down Killua's cheeks as he sobbed openly.
Before he had met her, sobbing this openly and this much in front of someone would've embarrassed him to no end, but.. this was Valentine. It was his girlfriend, his best friend, his light in the darkness.
And he knew she'd never judge him for sobbing so hard like this, that'd she'd only wrap him in her arms, hold him close and tell him that everything was going to be okay because she was there for him.
He wanted nothing more than for that right now, for her to wrap her arms around him and say—.
"..It's okay."
The way her soft, gentle voice seemed to whisper into his ear made tearful eyes of the ocean snap open and widen significantly as gentle hands gripped his shirt and held him close, tears dripping onto his shoulder as her beautiful whisper filled his senses, making shivers run down his spine.
"..Everything's okay now."
With a sob breaking through his lips, Killua swiftly and tightly wrapped his arms even tighter around his girlfriend, nuzzling his face into the crook of her neck as he held her close, his muscles straining as he held her so tightly that he didn't care if she'd struggle to get free, the only thing that mattered to him was that he had her back.
He had Valentine back.
And that's all that mattered to him right now.
