Please note: This is NOT a how-to book. While there will be useful (and incredibly obvious) nuggets of information, this is simply a space I created to record my design progress and see if I'm improving.

UPDATE: It has turned into a how-to book.

Note: Updates on this will be sporadic.

Hello everyone.

Why did I decide to create this book?

Mainly, I wanted an online space where I can keep myself accountable in my graphic design journey (and hopefully, get any feedback). I also want to consistently improve in my DIY designing skills and posting will allow me to work towards that higher quality of designing.

I'll also be sharing any resources that have shown me tips and tricks to improve my design and I will also be sharing my 'go-to' bag of tricks for simple book cover design.

I'm not an expert at high level photo manipulation but I do try when I feel like I have the right elements to make something good enough, if not outstanding.

My friends do love teasing me that I like designing the book covers more than actually writing the books but...

Let's not go there haha.

Anyway....

For reference, I'll be using GIMP. It's a free, open source photo manip software that has been labelled to be just as powerful as Photoshop.

However, I will be checking out Photopea very soon as I heard the quality is on par with Photoshop as well. I don't really like online-based photo manip, as I prefer a computer-installed app, but it would work.

Since I mainly write Twilight/Carlisle Cullen fanfictions (sometimes spicy), my covers may or may not feature images of the character.

If you're looking for tips, advice and resources, I'll advise you to check out my Tips and Advice reading list on my profile.

I have a few additions already and if you have any recommendations, feel free to comment them below :)

Here's a full look at this book's cover. Basic, I know. But I tried :)

The gold text style is by eosophobias. And I'm quite in love with it.

The font used is Desire Pro.

If I ever, in this lifetime, get to a point to do commercial stuff, I'll 100% be purchasing licenses for all the resources I use but for now, this is for fun and personal progress.

Hope you tag along! Thanks for reading.

- HEAVEN
