~ First words ~

When I see Jungkook walk into the lab, his ebony strands concealing his forehead and the majority of his eyes, my first thought is one I've had many times.

Can the boy even see where he's going half the time?

I've only seen Jungkook with his hair pushed back and styled once; that was at orientation. Many girls became infatuated with him at just the sight of his favourable looks, however, upon further investigation - meaning when they tried to talk to him - they soon became bored with his constant rejection, their admiration now only coming from afar.

I eye him unmoving as he walks up to our bench, setting his backpack on top of it before effortlessly sliding into his seat. From the moment he walked in seconds ago, I could sense something different about him so, when he turns to me and gives a short smile, my suspicions are confirmed.

"Hi, Maddie," he mutters, avoiding making eye contact with me as he unzips his bag.

Jungkook just spoke to me!

I pinch myself as subtly as I can but no, I'm not dreaming.

"You look tired," he adds, my jaw almost dropping at his mild concern. I suppose I have felt more tired today than most days.

"Uh yeah, I guess I didn't sleep well last night. Why are you talking to me, though?" I blurt out, wincing when I realise how stand-offish that must've sounded to him.

"Oh... Sorry," he says, eyes turning down to the notebook in front of him as he opens it in an attempt to seem nonchalant.

"No, I mean, we've never spoken before and we've been sat together for almost a year. What makes today so special?" I question with a laugh.

"Well, to tell you the truth, I-" Jungkook is cut off by the sound of the door swinging open, Mr Kim walking into the room with a laptop and notebook in hand as he makes his way to the stand at the front of the class. He turns to pull down the projector screen and Jungkook sighs. "I'll tell you after class," he whispers, earning a nod from me as we turn our eyes to Mr Kim.

a nice short one to introduce our male and female leads. the chapters in this book will be quite short so that i can (hopefully) update more regularly!
