~ Chapter Fifty Two ~

The next morning, the sun's bright orange and yellow rays shone their light on Dallas, and in Elliott's former bedroom, Dusk and Klaus slept so peacefully. His rough hands wrapped around his girlfriend's waist while the raven rested her soft and delicate hands on his chest, just like when they snuggled together back at the Academy as children. Slowly, Dusk's eyes began to flutter open, instantly greeted with the bright green eyes of her lover.

"Hey, handsome," She mumbled softly and brought a hand to his cheek. "Morning, songbird," he sleepily responded before kissing her, not caring about the morning breath. Neither of them knew that the previous terrible day would bring the best night of their lives. Dusk hadn't lost Klaus at all and instead gained his confession and an endless night of nostalgic cuddles. Klaus snuggled his head deeper into his girlfriend's shoulder, his brown curls brushing against the nape of her neck.

"I love you so much. I don't ever want to let you go," He mumbled, still maintaining eye contact with her. "I love you too," She responded. She glanced over at the nightstand, over to the alarm clock that displayed the time, 6:05 am. Suddenly, Klaus softly turned her head, so they were eye to eye again. The look in his eyes was so playful yet flirty, making her giggle at the sight. "Let's stay here for a little bit. I need more cuddles," he said, a hint of pleading at the end.

"You know I can't say no to you," Dusk agreed, hoping to enjoy more of this moment. No hectic situations, no feuding, just them and their blissful moment. Though, it was not to last very long.

"Authorities are asking for help identifying several persons of interest at Dealey Plaza at the time of the assassination. The FBI believes they may have been acting in concert with the alleged shooter, Lee Harvey Oswald," The reporter on the television screen stated as the Hargreeves siblings gathered around it. Dusk shuddered as they showed the photo of Kennedy's killer. She could never quite understand how someone could pull off a stunt like this and try to get away with it. It made her feel sick to see that cold-blooded man's face.

"Vanya Hargreeves, wanted in connection with the deaths of several FBI agents inside the federal building at Dealey Plaza. A Cuban exile, known only as Diego-" "Cuban? Seriously?" Diego scoffed as his picture was shown on the screen, describing how he escaped a mental institution. Leave it to Diego to get stuck in one of the worse places imaginable. The raven internally rolled her eyes.

"Dusk Hargreeves wanted in connection with a brawl at Jonathan's Bar that left a man dead and another man injured two days ago. And finally, her accomplice Klaus, the controversial cult leader and known tax evader," Dusk's body suddenly became paralyzed with shock and fear. Never had she ever imagined she would be on The FBI's Most Wanted List. There was no way she could explain herself to Mary, as she feared that the widow would turn her in immediately upon her return to the house.

Shortly after the report, the siblings began to talk over one another, protesting about the situation they now found themselves in. Klaus rubbed Dusk's back soothingly, hoping it would help her nerves as she appeared to be on the edge of another severe panic attack. "The FBI is after us, the Dallas police, the Secret Service. It's only a matter of time before they hunt us down!" Allison said, staring down at her hands in shock.

"Where are we supposed to go? There's no way we can stay here?" Vanya questioned. "I have this yurt just outside Reykjavik. The folks are a little weird but lovely. Maybe we could stay there," Klaus suggested. "Guys, hiding's not going to make a difference here. The Commission will hunt us down wherever and whenever we go," Five spoke up. Diego then spoke up, agreeing with Five on the Commission.

"I'm sorry, since when are you an expert on the Commission?" Five asked, his eyes narrowing. "They headhunted me, offered me a job. Full time with benefits which I had to turn down," Five still didn't believe him, thinking that Diego was too much of a pansy to be a part of the Commission. He muttered under his breath, shaking his head at his brother. "They headhunted you? The village idiot?"

Pretty much everybody knew exactly where this was going. Another one of their immature arguments. Sure enough, Diego and Five were practically nose to nose, arguing about the Commission and how Diego was "Not Commission Material," "I made the Switchboard my bitch! Y'all need to realize I got shit going on that you don't even know about," Diego said, glancing around at the rest of the siblings. "Oh, I'm sorry. You've got things going on? Guess what, Buster? You're not the only one!" Dusk snapped, her anxiety turning into anger.

If it wasn't for Klaus being there to keep her inner demon in check, she most likely would've raged on the dimwit. "I'm leaving!" Vanya announced, making everybody simmer down and stare at her. "What do you mean by your leaving?" Dusk inquired. The seventh Hargreeves explained there a situation was happening at Sissy's farm, claiming that something was wrong with Sissy's son, Harlan and that he needed help.

"I know that he needs my help. But for the first time in my life, I don't want to do this alone," Vanya expressed, hoping that at least one of her siblings would come and help. But to her dismay, most of her siblings stared down at the ground with looks of pity. "Vanya I'm sorry, but we have other priorities right now," Diego crossed his arms over his chest, staring down at her like she was a small child. "Alright then, I guess I'll see you when I see you," With that, Vanya took off, walking out the back door towards the alleyway.

"Unbelievable! At the very end, whenever one of our siblings asks for our help, you all turn your backs on them!" Dusk scoffed, shaking her head in disappointment. "Dusk, I hate to say this, but that child isn't as important as Vanya claims," Luther said, crossing his arms. Those words began to shake her core. But contrary to what happened back in 2019, she wouldn't turn into The Phoenix and unleash terror unless it was absolutely necessary.

"Do you honestly think that holing up in here and waiting for the Commission to come is a good idea? No, it's not! It's suicide, and you all know it! I don't care what you all have to say. I'm going with Vanya," As she was about to turn the knob of the back door, she heard the sound of footsteps following close behind her. "Luther, you're not gonna-" Number Eight turned on her heel, surprised to see that it wasn't Luther but Klaus.

"I'm coming with," he explained. Dusk said nothing further but gave him a sweet smile that silently told him she was proud of him. "Come on, let's go," she said, taking his hand as they walked out the door, surprised to see Vanya was still there. Dusk got in the backseat, sliding towards the middle of the row, while Klaus entered the front passenger seat. Vanya shifted her gaze to both of them, surprised to see they were there.

"So, Ben's gone forever, isn't he?" Klaus asked her, remembering as he watched Ben walk towards the interrogation room in the Federal building when he and his siblings were on the brink of death. "He traded his life for mine... while he saved the world in the process," Vanya explained. "Ben always tried to do what was best for the world. I miss him," Dusk sighed, faintly remembering him. Growing up, Dusk and Ben weren't nearly as close as she, Klaus and Vanya were. But they still had their good times and got along well.

"Did he... say anything about me?" Klaus spoke with interest, hopeful that Vanya had an answer. Number Seven nodded her head, telling him that Ben wanted him to know that he was too scared to go into the light and that it wasn't him that made him stay. Klaus's eyes widened, always believing that it was his fault that his closest brother didn't take his ticket to heaven. Dusk for her part, was also in shock. She also began to feel a little guilty that she never got a chance to say hi to him before he moved on.

Their melancholy thoughts were interrupted when they heard the sounds of the backseat car doors opening and closing. "Got room for two more?" Allison asked, scooting right next to Dusk. "What about the Commission?" Vanya asked, confused. "Well, we might as well do some good before we die horribly," Five poked his head inside, staring at his sister as she tried to tell him that he didn't have to do this, but he interrupted, "I know. You owe me one, sis," Five slightly smiled before telling Klaus to get in the back.

Without any protests, he complied, sitting next to his girlfriend. Though it was a little crowded, the two lovebirds didn't mind as they looked at one another with an equal amount of love in their eyes. Everyone in the car then felt a sudden drop, like one of the tires had deflated. But to their surprise, they saw Luther get into the trunk. "Anyone makes a fat joke, and I'm out of here," he warned, making everybody chuckle as Vanya pulled out of the alleyway and onto the road, hoping to save Harlan from himself.
