As Westeros prepares to celebrate the imminent arrival of the new child of King Viserys and Queen Aemma, the hope of a son seems more tangible than ever. The court eagerly awaits a male heir to cement the royal line and end the uncertainty surrounding the succession. The Heir's Tournament approaches, setting off a cascade of events that will mark the beginning of irreversible rifts within House Targaryen.

Gwayne Hightower, Otto's eldest son, arrives in King's Landing to take part in the tournament, welcomed by his sister Alicent, who is already well integrated into the court. With preparations in full swing, he is reacquainted with the intricacies of court life, while Otto, Hand of the King, works to maintain his influence with Viserys through his wise counsel and Alicent's friendship with Princess Rhaenyra, continuing to weave his web within the royal family.

Tragedy strikes when Queen Aemma dies in childbirth, followed by the death of her newborn child, leaving the court reeling. King Viserys' grief shatters the court, but it quickly becomes leverage for Otto, who urges Alicent to comfort the king. Viserys, overwhelmed by grief and estranged from his brother Prince Daemon, announces his decision to name Rhaenyra heir to the throne, a move that already divides the court between those who support the idea of a queen and those who are already conspiring to replace her.

Ever the strategist, the time is ripe for Otto Hightower, the King's Hand, to exert his influence. While subtly urging Alicent, whom he sees as an ally, to get closer to Viserys in order to ingratiate herself with him, Otto does not stop there. He also gives his son Gwayne another task: to get closer to Princess Visenya, to become a confidant to her, whom he sees as more vulnerable and therefore more easily manipulated and in need of constant love and attention. By bringing her closer to Gwayne, Otto hopes not only to distance her from the now-heiress Rhaenyra, but also to increase his house's influence within the royal family.

Visenya, haunted by her father's and sister's lack of recognition, is slowly drawn into the relationship. Her budding friendship with Gwayne is a breath of fresh air in a world where she often feels ignored or undervalued. She finds in him a supportive ear and an ally in a world where she often feels ignored. But as their friendship blossoms into something deeper, Gwayne also begins to feel real feelings for the young princess, far beyond his father's instructions. But everything is plot and intrigue... even love.

Alicent, meanwhile, ascends to the throne and consolidates the Hightower's position at court, but at the cost of a fight with Rhaenyra and their now fractured friendship. At the same time, Gwayne and Visenya grow closer, forming a bond that is sincere but tinged with manipulation. Isolated by the intrigue that surrounds her, Visenya doesn't seem to care much, with Gwayne at her side to satisfy her craving for recognition and attention. The court is a viper's nest in this world of conspiracy, and as she begins to understand that she is but a pawn in the court's power games, she is reluctant to leave the comfortable role in which she has grown so comfortable.

In a world where even love can become a weapon, Visenya must choose between indulging her desire for affection or protecting what's left of her independence and dignity from those who would use her.
