GALLY BEGAN TO TELL THE STORY OF
how he got here and Evie only listened to him with one ear. Her gaze scanned her surroundings, scrutinizing every single person. She was suspicious of everything here.
"This group has been at war with WCKD since WCKD took control of the city. But they can't hide behind these walls forever! They'll pay for their actions one day."
They arrived in front of a greenhouse.
"Better leave the talking to me and try not to stare." He said when they walked in.
"Lorence!" Gally shouted into the dark room. Evie could make out a few of the flower beds. But she couldn't smell anything. She had never seen flowers before because of the scorched world she was living in so these flowers were probably not real.
"Gally." A voice sounded in the shadows. Evie saw a man, but she couldn't see him quite clearly, as the light coming in through the narrow hole besides the man blinded her too much. However, she recognized the man's strangely disfigured nose.

He held a rose in his hand, lifted it to his nose the next moment and smelled it.
What was he trying to smell with a nose like that? The air?
"Who are these people with you and what do they want?" he then asked. Gally wanted to say something, but Thomas beat him to it.
"We want to go to WCKD. Gally said you could take us there!"
So much for letting Gally talk.
Evie thought.
"Gally shouldn't make promises he can't keep," Lorence said indifferently. And turned to face them.
He walked slowly into the light and Evie had to try really hard not to gasp at his appearance.
His face was decayed on one side, covered in veins and his one eye was deathly gray. It seemed as if he was half human and half crank.
"There is a way now! But we need Thomas for that." Gally said and Thomas looked at him with a surprised look.
Neither of them had expected Gally to speak well of Thomas for once in their lives.
Lorence stepped towards the brunette boy.
"Do you know what I am? Thomas." he asked.
"I'm a businessman. That means.." he moved his face closer to Thomas'.
"I don't take unnecessary risks!" he then said.
Thomas looked at him. He didn't even bat an eyelid, which honestly scared Evie a bit, cause she didn't know this side of her brother.
"I can get you what you need," he said. Lorence laughed with a raspy voice.
"And what is it that I need?" he asked.
A nose?
Evie's gaze fell on the bag Lorence was carrying. But it only had a little serum in it.
"Time! Lorence." Thomas pointed to the bag.
"Down to the last drop." He said.
"Is that what I need?" Lorence asked, amused. Something about his whole being irritated Evie. It almost frightened her the way he laughed at her brother.
"Good, two of you can go! The others stay here! As a little.. Insurance." Evie suddenly felt herself being watched by the people around her.
"So you can find your way back Thomas!" said Lorence.
He held out his half-decayed hand to Thomas. Thomas eyed and then struck it.
"Deal!" her brother stated and then turned around.
"Okay, me and Newt go with Gally, you stay here!"

Evie sat down on a chair, bored. Newt sat down in the other corner and tied his shoes. The girl watched her boyfriend, especially the worried look on his face.
As Gally opened a shaft and lowered a ladder into it, Evie saw Newt stop tying his shoes and look down at his arm. He clenched his hand like he was in pain. Then his eyes met hers, as if he'd remembered she existed.
Evie looked at him worriedly and critically, scanning him from top to bottom. He looked away again, as if she had caught him doing something, and looked down at his shoes, annoyed.
The blonde girl stood up and walked over to him. She squatted down in front of him, put a hand on his cheek and forced him to look at her.
"What's wrong?" she asked and tried to reach for his arm. But he pulled it away.
"Did you hurt yourself?" She asked concerned.
"No." He said with a sigh, a little too annoyed for her taste, and stood up.
Evie followed him as he walked to the open hole.
Thomas and Gally climbed down the ladder and Newt followed them. Evie crossed her arms in front of her chest as she watched the boys disappear down the hole.
What was his problem?
The girl made short work of it and went to the ladder too.
"What are you doing? That's not the deal." said Lorence.
"The others are staying here anyway. One more or less doesn't matter! I'll be back!" she said and climbed down.
"Oi! Come back!" shouted Lorence, but the girl didn't even think about it.
"Bahh, that's disgusting!" she heard Newt's voice from afar and grinned.
"Yeah, really great here!" said Thomas, also disgusted. Gally turned on the light and she ran around the corner to them. They flinched at the splash Evie made and whirled around.
"It's just me," she said, coming to a halt and smiling at them.
"What are you doing here?! You should be waiting upstairs." Newt said rather less enthusiastically and Evie's smile disappeared.
"What does it look like? I'll come with you." she said, shrugging her shoulders and was about to run off, but Newt pulled the girl back by the shoulder.
"Oh no, NO. You're going back!"
"I'm coming with you." Evie disagreed and crossed her arms in front of her chest.
"Doesn't matter she's coming with us, we could really use her!" Thomas said, shrugging his shoulders, and Gally agreed.
"You get your arse back up there now!" said Newt and pushed Evie towards the entrance.
"What's your problem?" She asked, annoyed, and twisted out of his grip.
"Come on, guys, we're losing time!" Gally urged and wanted to move on.
"My problem is that you're defying every order and doing what you want again!" Newt got upset.
"Sounds familiar, doesn't it?" Evie said, thinking about the glade. She smiled for a second but got serious again the next.
„You want me to wait upstairs when I could probably help you down here? You're the one who said you wouldn't leave my side!"
"THAT has nothing to do with it AND you know it!" He hissed and stabbed Evie in the chest with his index finger.
Just like in the good old days in the glade, he was once again experiencing the anxiety and mood swings of a pregnant woman.
The blonde girl crossed her arms defiantly and fought him in an eye duel. Newt snorted, gave up and turned around.
Gally didn't know exactly what to say and looked between them. Thomas came over to his sister and put his arm around her. He gave her an encouraging look and she gave him a slight smile. So they walked on.
