Percy POV
" 600th floor please " I told the security guard of the Empire state building. Yes mortals, Olympus is on the 600th floor of the Empire state building. To mortals there's only 102 floors. Deal with it.
" No such thing kiddo " he spoke it like he had said it a million times. I guess he had. The security guard is immortal so he can always recognise the Gods , if they come this way and because it's such a boring job, no one else but him wanted it, or maybe he didn't?
I mean you sit at a desk all day and give directions or deny that there is a 600th floor. Only demigods would know that! So just let them up !
" Give me the key , before I send you to Hades , the hard way !" This security guard really needs to look at who he's talking to, the Gods already gave me special rights as ' hero of Olympus'.
I never really threatened the guard before *cough* but, I needed to get up there, I had called a meeting with one of the Olympians. It was particularly important and I don't wish to be late.
I got the key at last, the rectangular card. It was pure white and had no wording only the symbols of the Olympians along the border. The centre had a simple gold circle. I slid it into the security slot , and waited. The elevator was terribly slow coupled with some awful songs , the way up was tedious.
Apollo may be the god of Music but his taste and sense is terrible. And a tip? Don't EVER let him tell you a Haiku, they are the worst!
As I walked through Olympus, the nymphs , minor gods and satyrs all stopped and stared. There was a statue of me at some part of Olympus. The shops were selling "Hephaestus brand explosives" , "Dionysus level Gin" and a lot more like "Zeus lightning bolt replica figure".
I approached the throne room, room didn't do this place justice. It was huge with white marble columns and a high domed ceiling. Only Athena was there just as I had requested her presence.
" Athena, please , I wish to marry your daughter, Annabeth. I will do anything for your blessing! " I felt like I had poured my heart out into those few words.
" Very well, son of Poseidon. Defeat Ladon and bring me a golden apple. That is your quest. I shall alert Chiron."
I was stunned. Ladon was scary. He towered over you and he was a terrifying presence to be in. He had Greyish - green scales, the skin lacing his wings were blood red and he has a hundred heads. His scales are nearly impossible to penetrate and to defeat him , you have to slice of 99 of his heads.
His beady eyes are terrifying, a deep red colour. His breath feels like acid burning your lungs. Did I mention he killed my friend Zoë ?
Yeah well he did. And she used to care and feed him. Talk about back stabbing, or biting ? Hey, Luke used to have a sword called Backbiter! Sorry, getting off topic .
STUPID ADHD!
Lady Athena must want me to die before I marry her daughter
Sighing , I looked into Athena fierce grey eyes. I gave her a curt nod. Before she flashed me there , she gave me a pendant filled with a purple mist , instructions were to smash it on the ground and she will flash me out after my quest.
I steeled my nerves as I approached the garden. It was sunset, just the correct time to enter it.
The 4 Hesperides approached me.
" Son of Poseidon , good luck, you will need it ". I so wanted to say, thanks really I do.
My lungs had a burning sensation. The acidic air seemed to choke me. Ladon stood there in all his glory , unfortunately for me he was awake. His 100 heads snapped the air and his 100 pairs of beady eyes eyed me warily.
Quickly I dove into action. I used water and created water- like figures to help me distract Ladon. He spat acid at me and I barely dodged it. His spit sizzling upon contact with the ground. The grass dying instantly. I loped off 3 heads, jumping back as another 50 turned to bite me. I felt fluid like water.
Dodging all his attacks. I used water from the nearby river to transform into ice , piercing 15 of his heads. I jumped , just in time, as his head snapped the areas where I stood moments ago.
I leapt around, trying to stab at him and lop of a few heads. I had to keep in motion, if he decided to rapid fire with all 100 head, let's just say, I'll be a pool of acid in seconds.
I had a few bruises and many scratches covering my body, after all the floor ain't smooth. It's a garden, twigs, leaves and roots were all place.
Ow ! I think I just hit my head against a root ? Well that hurts !
It was a slow process, I was tiring out. On the bright side, I had yet to receive a blow, Ladon had only 15 heads left. The Hesperides stood near the mountain.
Looking at me in shock. I found out later that this was a feat that few managed to achieve. And even less got survive to tell the tale.
One by one his remaining heads fell. Until he had 10 left. Ladon got a lucky blow at my calf. The bite burned and I grit my teeth. I had not come all the way here just to be defeated by one bite.
I limped back toward Ladon and rushed into action.
Dam. I just had to think ' hey! I haven't gotten bitten ' and I got bitten. Yep, curse the fates, my luck is terrible. I started to run again, though it was more of a slow jog.
Duck, roll, slice , stab
My limbs were on fire, I felt the poison seeping its way into my veins. Zoë died because of a bite from Ladon and a blow from her father. Yes , her dad killed her, talk about family bonding right ? How did she endure this pain ?
My respect for Zoë had increased tenfold. Really. I suddenly understood the literal meaning of ' once bitten, twice shy '. I definitely never ever want to be bitten again. It hurts almost as much as the Styx.
My mind was working overdrive, but I was getting sluggish, the poison was nearing my spine. Giving a anguished yell, I controlled the poison to exit my body, not a pleasant not was it a painless experience.
Imagine you blood being forcefully yanked out of your body, then shoved back in...
I started to sprint, rushing around, randomly stabbing Ladon. I actually pitied the poor beast. He was literally injured again and again. Every Greek hero thinks their so mighty and try to defeat him.
I honestly wonder, has Ladon seen more bloodshed than I? I have been in 2 wars...
Eventually , Ladon was defeated , his last head hung low as he backed away. His last head hanging low, the green scales seemingly lost Thier shine. His eyes reflected the amount of regret they held.
The Hesperides looked on and told me
" You are the first to truly defeat Ladon without help. You now have tamed Ladon. A replacement will come soon. Right now this Ladon here is your pet. He will hear your call just touch his forehead now. "
I did as I was told and a searing pain on my left bicep was all I felt.
" that marks your victory over Ladon. Touch it and call ' Ladon ' he will be there. He can change form and size as well.
Only true heroes can take him, others can merely defeat him. Congratulations, you shall be feared as tamer of Ladon. You can come and pick the immortal apple anytime now."
The Hesperides were looking at me teary eyed. "Zoë. She was a true hero. Banishing her from the garden. That was what we regret most. Son of Poseidon, thank you for befriending her. She deserves your friendship. We all miss her. You know ? She is still out sister." Thier eyes turned a pale bluish- red. Nymphs have this weird colouring.
Their blood is different based on what nymph they are, tears and sweat too. I'm guessing they are tearing up? You never know with immortals. They could be happy one second, then suddenly angry. Like literally ' destroy the world, kill all mortals ' angry.
You have no idea how much that happens...
I stared at my bicep, it now had a image of a very mini Ladon on it. Ladon curled up , shrinking into the size of a rabbit and curled abound my neck. I walked to the tree and picked a apple.
The scent was intoxicating, it smelled sweet and I knew that one bite would be the nicest and juiciest thing I ever had.
It shone under the sun. It was beautiful and had the perfect weight. The shine was amazing and it had no blemishes. I over turned it in my hand, it was...perfect.
I turned my thoughts to Annabeth, and the overpowering urge to eat the apple dissipated. Dam, just one look and one sniff made you that way ? Huh, that's down powerful magic.
What if Ladon ate one ? Would his breath smell better ? I mean all he chews is eucalyptus trees. That would sick after a few millennium. Dam. Getting off track. AGAIN !
So you have tamed me ? Oh well we can communicate telepathically by the way.
Cool.
Yeah it's cool. I guess. Any danger you are in , they will have to face my wrath.
So you are like my guardian?
Yes you could say that ...
I smashed the vial against a nearby rock and nodded to the Hesperides one last time, before I was teleported back to Olympus.
When I got there, Athena stared at the now sleeping Ladon curled around my neck like a travel pillow. Her eyes widened in disbelief.
" Pure heart... Tamer... Never before" I heard her mutter. I guess I have that impression on people. FINALLY! Athena approves of me ! She said I have a pure heart !
" Perseus , you are the only person in all of history to tame Ladon. It is said that the hero with the purest heart can tame him. Congratulations, you have earned my blessing "
She took out a ring, tossing it toward me. It was beautiful. The band itself was carved out of Amethyst. Two sapphire dolphins circled around a simple grey gem. It was the most beautiful ring I had ever seen. I knew Annabeth would love it !
Ecstatic, I rushed to camp, skipping and humming to myself. I caught the Grey sister's taxi. The moment I got in, I knew I would regret taking this ride. Let's just say that the Grey sister's never forgave me for threatening to throw their eye out the window... Oops ?
Ok, I rewrote this. Hope you guys enjoy this !
