4: bunny's lunch

CHIYO NERVOUSLY AWAITED...

by the oak tree near the hakuzen tower, as maki and mai said that they would be expecting her at another part of the field.

scuffing the bottom of her shoe with the grass beneath her, chiyo was suddenly alerted of sukuna's presence when she heard a pair of feet walking towards her.

"here", sukuna stated, holding out a neatly wrapped up bento box, as chiyo accepted it with a smile.

"t-thank you! and here's yours. sorry if it's not good...I don't usually cook since my mom isn't always home, and I'm busy with school", the second-year rambled.

"it's fine. anyways, I'll return this to you today after the field trip. meet me at the school's front gates", sukuna said, taking the disgustingly (cutely) wrapped up bento box in exchange.

chiyo bowed before rushing off to meet maki and mai, meanwhile sukuna headed the other way, meeting yūji and the rest of their friends.

the platinum blonde girl anxiously unfolded the black fabric, as she wondered if sukuna used this same lunchbox.

"look at her. all smitten because her crush made her lunch", mai teased, as chiyo's face only reddened.

"to be honest, I doubt sukuna's very good at cooking. he probably just made her a sandwich or something", maki mindlessly commented.

"i-is a sandwich bad?!", chiyo worried, for that was what she had made him.

"uhh...no, not particularly. it's just that normally people who are inexperienced with cooking make sandwiches", maki answered, hitting the nail on the head.

chiyo hoped that sukuna wouldn't hate her for her incompetence. as she opened the bento box, she was utterly shocked at how wonderful everything looked.

     "no way", mai gasped.

not only was the rice seasoned with sesame seeds, but there was fried tempura in one column, handmade sushi rolls in another, and fried gyoza (dumplings) in the last one.

"he even put some wasabi in there for you", maki gawked, as chiyo couldn't help but take a picture of the delicious lunch.

"I haven't had a handmade lunch in a really long time", the girl smiled, digging in, as she savored every bite of it.

     "it's so good!!", she chirped.

"damn. who knew that the angry kirby could cook", mai snorted.

"probably his only redeeming quality", maki bluntly insulted.

sukuna sneezed, as he cursed whoever the fuck was talking about him behind his back.

"it's probably just the pollen", yūji brushed it off.

"say, since when were you...", kugisaki couldn't even finish her question, as she bursted out laughing.

even megumi found it a bit hard to hold back his chuckles.

"what?", sukuna snarled, unraveling the lunchbox, as he revealed a pink container with a bunny sticker plastered to the right corner of it.

"I wonder what she made you", yoshino hummed with curiosity, as sukuna opened the box for everyone to see.

kugisaki stopped laughing for a second before falling onto her back and crackling even more.

"ehhhh?? that's pretty cute!", yūji complimented, peering over his brother's stiff shoulders, as the latter froze at the sight of a bunny-shaped sandwich.

there was some lettuce as decoration, an egg that was also decorated like a rabbit, some grapes with a bunny toothpick, and vegetables either cut into slices or flowers.

sukuna was torn between feeling humiliated and appealed.

"what the—"

a flash suddenly went off, as kugisaki giggled to herself, claiming that she'll never ever see sukuna with something so cute ever again.

"now I HAVE TO meet the girl that made this. she's ballsy for giving the itadori sukuna a bunny bento box for lunch", the orange-haired girl teased.

"delete that", sukuna threatened.

"make me", kugisaki retorted with a grin.

before sukuna could jump the girl, yūji snatched one of the flower-shaped carrots, causing sukuna's attention to redirect towards his brother.

"did you just—"

"yeah", yūji interrupted, munching on the snack, as sukuna flicked his brother's forehead.

"who said you could eat my food?"

"well you didn't look too happy receiving it, so I just thought I'd help you get rid of it", the younger twin stated.

"fuck off! I'm finishing it", sukuna scowled, starting with the side dish and fruits first, as he eventually stopped at the main course.

picking up the bunny sandwich, he almost felt like this was an accurate representation of the girl.

'timid, quiet, cute, and—cute?? no, this bunny isn't cute. it's ugly!', sukuna internally argued with himself.

"dude, are you okay? you're glaring at your lunch bro", yūji snickered.

a glare had quickly made the younger itadori quiet, as megumi was also now interested in meeting the girl.

"say, what does she look like?", megumi questioned.

kugisaki raised a brow.

"oh? this is the first time that I've heard about you being even remotely interested about a girl. why? is it because she's not a part of the megumi fan club and you're trying to convert her?", the first-year girl joked.

"obviously not", megumi frowned, "and aren't you intrigued by her as well?"

"that's true. I just can't believe that a girl would decide to make sukuna a cute lunch. makes me wonder what she's like, ya know?"

"aishhh! today was tiring", mai yawned, stretching her arms, as she held no consideration for her twin that was seated beside her on the bus.

chiyo was the unlucky one and ended up being seated next to a random girl, but she didn't particularly mind.

her thoughts were solely focused on meeting sukuna after their ride back to school. as she watched the nature swish by her, the girl was elated when the bus driver had announced that they have arrived.

chiyo hastily rushed off the bus, leaving mai scoffing — though not in an offended way.

"geez. she didn't even wait for us".

maki just shrugged, as she shouldered their belongings, noticing chiyo meeting sukuna at the front of the school.

"h-here you go. thank you for the lunch", chiyo bowed, exchanging bento boxes, as sukuna just hummed.

"was it okay?", the second-year asked.

before the male could answer, chiyo spoke up once again, twiddling her thumbs as the rest of her fingers clenched tightly onto her own lunchbox.

"i-it's just that I've never made lunch for anybody before...I-I tried a lot of different recipes, but thought that a sandwich was the best choice for me since it's pretty easy..."

"it was good", sukuna begrudgingly complimented, for he couldn't bring himself to bash on her about the bunny sandwich.

"thank you", chiyo managed to mutter out.

"y-your food was very good as well...it was amazing, actually..."

"you think so?", sukuna grinned, as chiyo's eyes flickered towards the boy before back down at her feet.

"y-yeah...I rarely eat home cooked meals, so this was a nice change from my usual frozen foods", the girl dryly chuckled.

"you don't make your own meals?"

"I-I'm not good at cooking, and plus, homework keeps me busy after school", chiyo briefly explained.

"frozen food isn't good for you", sukuna proclaimed.

chiyo wasn't sure what else to say.

"umm...I'm sorry?"

"that's not what I—never mind", the pink-haired boy sighed, scratching the back of his head, as he decided that it'd be better to just go home and rest for the day.

"w-well, if there's nothing more, have a nice rest of your day", chiyo mumbled, walking off, as sukuna just replied with an acknowledging hum.

"ya done flirting?", yūji whispered, popping up behind sukuna and causing the latter to almost punch the boy in the face.

     "WOAH! damn!", yūji snorted.

"oh, it's just you", sukuna scoffed, rolling his eyes, as he started heading towards home.

"we're home!", yūji and sukuna exclaimed in sync, one clearly more excited than the other.

"welcome back!", their mother — itadori kaori — greeted.

"how was the field trip?", jin, their father who was sitting on the sofa reading the newspaper, asked.

     "good", sukuna simply replied.

"amazing!! there were so many cool birds and plants. I even found this chubby squirrel, look!!", yūji rambled, taking out his phone and shoving it in his dad's face.

     "wow! how cute!", jin chuckled.

"right?! oh, and junpei nearly tripped trying to chase the flock of crows. I have a video. let me show you".

whilst the younger twin and their father were chatting about the school excursion, sukuna headed towards the kitchen, where kaori was preparing dinner.

     "need any help?", he questioned.

"oh I don't think so. thank you for offering though", kaori smiled, "so...did she like the lunch?"

sukuna slightly flinched at the mentioning of her.

"w-what do you mean? the lunch was for me".

the dark-haired woman squinted her eyes, as she raised a brow at her suspicious son.

"for a boy who's always so confident, you never stutter unless you're lying or scared".

     "how'd you—"

"oh come on, sukuna! I'm your mother! I know you like the back of my hand. and plus, you never put that much effort into your own lunches. maybe yūji's or chōsō's, but never your own".

sukuna grumbled something beneath his breath, as he adverted his gaze from his anticipating mother.

     "well?", she pressured.

sighing, sukuna raked through his hair, as he stated how she had liked the lunch, and how her diet consisted mostly of frozen foods, so she really appreciated it.

"oh, poor thing! if only there was someone to help cook her dinner and lunch like I do for my two boys", kaori pouted, feigning sadness.

sukuna's eye twitched, as he knew exactly what his mother was hinting at.

"yeah, how sad. oh well", the pink-haired boy shrugged, about to walk away before kaori snatched the back collar of her son's uniform.

"oh no you don't. think about it, sukuna. wouldn't it be nice to do something special for someone once in a while?", kaori persuaded.

"you don't even know her!", sukuna argued.

"from the picture of the lunch that she made for you, sent by yūji? oh yes I do. she seems like an absolute sweetheart".

the older twin frowned, as he maintained a brief stare-off with his mother.

"fine, but it's not because she's special or anything. it's because you forced me to", sukuna stated.

"yes yes, totally not because she's special", kaori sarcastically repeated.

sukuna had then stolen some of the leftover ingredients that kaori was using for their dinner tonight, as he prepared something small; nothing extravagant.

kaori occasionally glanced over at her son who was focused on making some regular takoyakis.

'aw, how cute! can't wait until he brings her home to us'.

AUTHOR'S NOTE: this is most likely how sukuna (and I) view chiyo:

stop,, she's just so cute, I—
