Chapter 18

I was in the apartment, which I had found out belonged to Allison and her dad, and had just finished explaining to everyone that my mother and I were Fire Nymphs and how my mother had been training me and the problems I had controlling my powers.

After the fight, everyone had come back to Allison's apartment to regroup and so I could explain how I had shot fire out of my palms and defeated the bad guy.

So far, everyone had taken the news pretty well.

"So, have you always been a Fire Nymph and had trouble controlling your powers?" Scott asked.

"No, actually. I had the Fire Nymph gene, but I hadn't been a Fire Nymph until it was triggered," I answered.

They were silent, seemingly waiting for me to continue, but I had nothing to continue with.

"How is the Fire Nymph gene triggered?" Allison asked finally.

I shrugged my shoulders. "I don't know. My mother's keeping that, amongst other things, a secret from me."

"I'm going to Deaton to show him the scroll after this. You can come if you want and see if he knows anything about it," Scott offered.

"That sounds good," I agreed.

. . .

"I was wondering if you knew what could have triggered my Nymph genes?" I asked, trying to keep the hopefulness out of my voice.

I had just finished telling Deaton about everything and I was praying he had some answers for me. Before that, Deaton had explained that the scroll had said the best way to kill the Nogitsune without killing Stiles was to change the body of the host, which meant Scott giving Stiles the bite.

"I do, actually." Deaton said. "For a Fire Nymph's genes to be triggered, or any Nymph's for that matter, the Nymph needs to be in the presence of another supernatural creature besides her kin. It's likely that your mother didn't tell you because she doesn't want you to know about the rest of the supernatural just yet."

I was surprised and angry at the information, but more importantly, I was angry at my mother. How could she not tell me? What else was she hiding? Would I ever be able to trust her again?

"Did you have a peculiar feeling or vision when you met Scott for the first time? Or one of his supernatural friends?" Deaton inquired.

I was about to say no when I remembered something. It was the first day of school and I had been standing by my locker when I saw Scott, Stiles, Allison, and Lydia walk through the halls. As soon as I'd spotted Scott, all I could see was fire, and then it was over. I'd brushed it aside, thinking it had been nothing more than my imagination, but apparently it hadn't been.

"Yes, I did," I answered Deaton.

"That was the Fire Nymph gene inside you being triggered," Deaton explained. "Also, I feel I should warn you, using more of your power than you're used to using will leave you drained. A trick to get more energy is to be around heat. It can be from a fire, heater, or even body heat."

I was surprised at the last bit of information, and annoyed that my mother hadn't told me it first. I thanked Deaton for the information and Scott and I left the veterinarian, walking outside into the cold air.

"I need to go home and talk to my parents," I told Scott when he motioned for me to get on the back of his dirt bike.

"It's too risky," Scott said, shaking his head.

I sighed, annoyed.

"But Stiles is in Eichen House! And he has the poison in him! I should be safe for the night," I argued.

Scott just shook his head again.

"What if the poison wears off sooner than expected? The Nogitsune could easily escape Eichen House and then no one would be there to protect you when he comes to kidnap you."

I sighed again, but this time in defeat. I got on the back of his dirt bike, muttering curses under my breath and we rode away from the Vet.

We ended up arriving back at Allison's apartment. It wasn't necessarily late, but it was dark. We hurried up the stairs and into her apartment.

When we entered, Allison exited a room, and I noticed a bed in there before she closed the door. It must have been her bedroom.

"Everyone will take turns in watching you and keeping you safe," Scott explained. "Allison offered for you to stay here for the night."

After that, Scott quickly left, and I couldn't help but wonder what history they shared together. Allison and I smiled at each other awkwardly. I didn't really know Allison that well; in fact, I'd only had a few conversations with her. She seemed nice though.

"So, what do you want for dinner?" she asked.

I shrugged my shoulders. "I'm good with anything."

"Pizza?"

"Sounds good."

Allison went on the phone to order pizza, and when she hung up, there was an awkward silence.

"Do you want to watch a movie?" she asked.

I nodded my head.

"Yeah sure. What movies do you have?" I replied

"Do you like Avengers?" she asked.

I grinned. Maybe Allison and I had more in common than I thought.

. . .

It turned out Allison and I did have a lot in common. We both loved Marvel and watched those movies all night long. We talked, joked, ate snacks, and basically had a sleepover. It was really fun, and I was glad to say I had a new friend.

It was the morning, and Allison and I were sitting on her bed, hanging out. Allison was looking through a shopping magazine on different sort of crossbows and I was reading a book that had information on Fire Nymphs. I was learning quite a lot of new tricks I couldn't wait to try out.

"Do you think I should get my own customised crossbow?" Allison mused as she turned the page of her shopping magazine.

"Well, what would be customised?" I asked.

"I'd like to have a purple and black crossbow." Allison said. "And probably have my initials on it."

Before I could answer her and tell her I thought it would be an amazing idea, Scott barged into the room. I was surprised to say the least and nearly threw my book at him when he first entered. Why was he here?

"Stiles escaped Eichen House," Scott said. "The Nogitsune's taken over."

"I'll look after Y/n," Allison said. "Tell me if there's anything else I can do."

Scott nodded, closing the door, and presumably leaving.

I felt like a child. Better yet, I felt like a liability. Everyone's looking after me instead of trying to find Stiles because they don't trust I can protect myself. I didn't voice my feelings though, because I was grateful that they were taking this much care for me.

Allison got a text and when she checked it, her eyes widened a bit.

"Stay here," she said, before getting out of her room and leaving.

Where to, I had no idea. I sighed and picked up the book I was reading, staying there for a while, when I heard voices.

I recognised one of them as Noah's and someone else's as Allison's, but there were still two unidentified people who had entered the apartment.

Curious, I left Allison's room and walked to the office, where everyone seemed to always go when they had important things to discuss.

There were four people in the room, Noah, and Allison, as well as the same mysterious man who talked to Kira and another man who looked strikingly like Allison. These two must be Derek and Chris, I thought. I also noticed multiple weapons spread out across the table.

"Listen," Noah said. "I'll understand if anyone wants to back out."

"Back out from what?" I questioned from the doorway.

Everyone turned to look at me, but Noah was the one who answered.

"We're going to find Stiles," Noah said. I wanted to correct him, reminding him that it was Void, not Stiles.

"I'll come with you," I said instead.

Noah shook his head.

"Absolutely not," Noah said. "He's after you! We need to keep you safe."

"And protected," Derek added. "We can't protect you when we're looking for the Nogitsune."

I sighed in frustration.

"I can protect myself!" I exclaimed.

"Not against an ancient, dark spirit that's infatuated with you," Derek replied evenly.

I crossed my arms, pissed, and leant against the doorframe in silence. Everyone else took that as their cue to continue.

"I'm not going to be the first wolf to run from a fox," Derek said, taking a weapon from the table.

Chris held a fancy looking stick up in the air as he said, "apparently I'm carrying a lightsaber."

I mentally filed that piece of information, reminding myself to ask him if I can use it later.

"Dad, you and Derek hit Eichen House," Allison said while putting the rest of the weapons into a bag. "Sheriff, it's you and me in the hospital. We all meet in the school."

Allison and Noah went to leave, Allison giving me a kind smile and Noah hugging me tightly.

"Stay safe, Kiddo," he whispered.

Once they'd left, I turned back to Derek and Chris, the latter loading a gun and putting it in his gun holster attached to his belt. I frowned. What was he planning to use that for?

"Making sure you have a few lethal options just in case?" Derek asked as he also noticed the gun.

Chris looked down at his gun.

"I like to prepare for the worst," he said.

"Hopefully it won't come to that," I said solemnly.

Both men nodded before walking the apartment as well, leaving me alone.

I sighed, making sure to lock the front door before wandering back to Allison's room, closing the door behind me. I picked up the book I was reading, where I was learning about how to use my fire power to make a shield.

After a while, I heard the apartment door open, surprising me. I hadn't thought the others would be back this quickly.

"Hello?" I called out. "Are you guys back already?"

No one answered.

I frowned and walked to Allison's bedroom door.

"Guys?" I called out again as I slowly opened her bedroom door and walked out, closing it behind me.

Still no answer.

I walked the hallway and found the front door ajar, sending a shiver down my spine. I was positive I locked it when the others left, which meant they must be back, because no one else had the key. Right?

I walked towards the front door and closed it, turning to search the living room, and then the kitchen. No one was there.

I took out my phone, walking into Allison's open doored room as I texted her.

Allison๐Ÿน

Y/n

Where are you guys? Why did you leave the door open when you came home?

I stood with my back facing the exit of Allison's room as I texted her. I saw Allison start texting and waited for her reply.

Allison๐Ÿน

Get out of there Y/n

You need to get out of there now

We never got home

I felt my heart stop as I read her text. Then, so quiet I nearly missed it, I heard Allison's bedroom door creaking shut.

My hands were shaking. I couldn't breathe.

I was trembling, my heart racing as my palms sweated.

Slowly, I turned around.

Stiles was standing in front of the closed door, grinning maliciously at me.

"Stiles?" I whispered, my voice trembling.

Stiles' grin widened.

"Try again."

A/N:

I hope you enjoyed the cliff hanger :)

Have a good day/night.
