Apology

Hesitating before approaching me

A delicate butterfly rests on my palm

I stretch my hand out and accept the words it holds.

"I'm sorry for not talking to you as much."

"I'm sorry if what I said is hurtful."

So many apologies, I have no words in response.

Waiting for the words to come to my mind, the butterfly is trembling

As if the beautiful insect fears the wrong reply

With a gentle stroke from my finger, I deliver my kind words of encouragement.

The butterfly doesn't respond, it never flies back through my window

But I can only be satisfied with the warm feeling your words left in my heart

And a promise that said butterfly will return soon, with characteristic apologies.

Let me let you in on a secret before another butterfly comes

Too many apologies is too overwhelming

And there's no need to apologize for everything

No pain in the world or in my heart

Could ever be caused by your sweet soul

So keep your head up

And stop apologizing.
