She/Him

29/01/22 11:54 Calling...
"You've reached Knights Diner Hotline! How may I help you?"
"You're back!"
"Hm."
"That's it? I was hoping for a more excited greeting..."
"So. My brother told me you called?"
"I did. He wouldn't give me your name though."
"Good. How can I help-"
"Wait, isn't it strange that your brother works where you work?"
"Please don't interrupt me."
"Hey! You have interrupted me so many more times than I have."
"And?"
"It isn't fair, so I'm making it even."
"Oh, great. Are you in elementary school?"
"What?! No!"
"Well you sure whine like a kid."
"That's not nice."
"Okay."
"That's it? You aren't going to say anything else?"
"What else is there to say? You sound like an elementary school student and you behave like one too."
"Fine then. What do you want, sophisticated British English?"
"That's not what I-"
"Ahem. Excuse-me mademoiselle, would you like a spot of tea?"
"Please stop with the terrible accent."
"*over dramatic gasp* My accent is perfection."
"Yeah, yeah."
"Wait, back to what I was asking. Isn't it weird working with your brother?"
"Uhh... I've never really thought about it. I guess, for me it's normal. Both of our first jobs were at this diner."
"Did Mystery Girl just open up to me a little?"
"And I'm never doing that again."
"But why? Doesn't it ever get boring answering hotline calls? Tell me you don't want someone to chat with and open up to?"
"And that is why I have friends."
"But talking to a stranger who doesn't know you, your reputation, your life, it can feel... refreshing."
"I... guess? But, you've never opened up to me."
"I guess that's true.
"It is. Now, as refreshing as talking to a stranger might be, I'm working. It would be best if you stopped calling."
"Who would I annoy without you, Mystery Girl?"
"That sounds like a personal problem. Pretty sure you can find someone else to annoy."
"Oh, come on. If I stop calling, I'm sure you'll miss me, at least a bit."
"I won't miss you at all."
"Not even a teeny tiny bit?"
"What would I miss?"
"Me being annoying? My hotness?"
"What if I told you that I have a boyfriend?"
"I'd be disappointed in you."
"Why?"
"You let me flirt with you for like three calls already. I still have some self-respect. I'm not going to steal some other guy's girl."
"..."
"Mystery Girl?"
"Interesting."
"What?"
"Nothing. Are you going to order?"
"Nope."
"Okay. Anyway, I have to go, gotta take someone's order. You know, I don't always work on the hotline."
"Wait, I'm still going to call you. That's okay, right?"
"Sure, sure."
"Awesome, bye-"
The Call Has Ended
"What, is her hanging up on me a tradition now?"
