U WHERE TO HOT I NEEDED A TAN
The sun was beginning to set, casting a warm orange glow across the beach.
Aurelie lay on her towel, enjoying the last bit of sunlight as her mom sat nearby reading a book.
Her family had headed home earlier, but she had begged to stay for just a little while longer, wanting to soak in the sun for a better tan before the day was completely over.
She was just about to close her eyes when she noticed someone familiar out of the corner of her eye.
A few yards away, she spotted someone who looked like Leena.
Narrowing her eyes, she realized it wasn't just a look-alike—Leena was there. And next to her? Walker, unmistakable in his casual beach attire.
Aurelie sat up quickly, her heart skipping a beat. She scanned the area and spotted Heather, Walker and Leena's mom, nearby, chatting with someone.
Without thinking twice, Aurelie jumped to her feet, her excitement building. "Mom, I'll be right back!" she called out, not even waiting for a response before dashing across the sand.
Her feet carried her straight to Walker and Leena, her heart racing as she approached them.
Leena noticed her first, a smile breaking out on her face as she waved.
"Aurel!" Leena called out, her tone teasing. "Look who we found!"
Walker turned just in time for Aurelie to throw her arms around his neck, hugging him tight.
Without hesitation, his arms wrapped around her waist, pulling her close.
There was nothing awkward about it—just the familiar warmth of someone she'd known for so long.
"Walker!" Aurelie laughed, her voice muffled slightly against his shoulder. "I didn't know you'd be here!"
"I didn't know you were still at the beach!" he responded, his voice light with surprise and happiness.
They pulled back just enough to look at each other, their hands lingering where they had been—her fingers resting on the back of his neck, his hands still comfortably on her waist.
For a moment, they just smiled at each other, neither one feeling the need to rush the moment.
Leena crossed her arms, grinning. "Well, well, well. What a reunion."
Aurelie gave her a playful glare before glancing over at Heather, who was now making her way over. "Hi, Heather!"
Heather smiled warmly, pulling Aurelie into a quick hug. "It's so nice to see you, Aurelie. I swear, you're getting taller every time I see you."
"Or maybe Leena just shrinking," Aurelie teased, making Walker chuckle.
"Hey, I'm not that short !" She protested, giving her a playful nudge.
They all laughed, the mood light and easy, like old times.
Aurelie felt her chest swell with happiness—it was moments like this that reminded her why she valued her friendship with Walker so much. It was effortless, even after everything they'd been through.
The four of them spent the next hour walking along the shore, talking and laughing like no time had passed.
They reminisced about old memories, with Leena throwing in her usual teasing remarks about Aurelie and Walker's bond
But even her playful comments couldn't shake the good mood—if anything, it made the moment feel even more special.
As the sun began to sink lower into the horizon, casting a pink and purple glow over the water, Aurelie felt a sense of calm wash over her.
Being with Walker again felt natural, and the way his arm casually brushed against hers as they walked made her realize that maybe things weren't as complicated as they had seemed.
"I'm really glad we ran into each other today," Walker said quietly as they strolled a few steps ahead of the others.
"Me too," Aurelie replied, glancing up at him. "It's... nice. Hanging out like this again."
Walker smiled down at her, his expression soft. "Yeah, it is."
And in that moment, Aurelie felt like things were falling into place once again.
Aurelie stepped into her house, the warmth of the day still lingering on her skin as she slipped off her sandals.
After a long, wonderful afternoon at the beach with Walker and his family, she felt both relaxed and energized, a mixture of nostalgia and hope bubbling inside her.
She headed upstairs to her room, wanting to wash off the sand and saltwater.
The shower was a welcome relief, the hot water soothing her muscles and letting her replay the day's events.
Seeing Walker again had felt... right. Like slipping back into something comfortable, something familiar.
Wrapping herself in a soft towel, she stepped out of the bathroom and into her room.
As she dried her hair, her eyes caught on a drawer she hadn't opened in a while. She walked over to it slowly, hesitating for a moment before tugging it open.
Inside, tucked away under some old t-shirts and random keepsakes, was Jake—the teddy bear she and Walker had won on their theme park date
A slow smile spread across her face as she pulled the bear out, brushing off the bit of lint that had collected on him. Jake Peralta. Named after their favorite character from Brooklyn 99.
She plopped down on her bed, holding Jake in her lap, a chuckle escaping her lips as memories from that day flooded her mind.
The way Walker had insisted on winning him, even though she kept telling him it wasn't a big deal. The way his face had lit up when he finally did.
Sitting there, hugging the stuffed bear, Aurelie couldn't help but talk to him like she used to.
"Oh, Jake," she whispered with a grin, "i guess me and Walker might be back."
Her smile softened as she looked down at the bear's plush face. The idea of being back with Walker wasn't as scary as it had once seemed. In fact, the more she thought about it, the more it felt like it was just a matter of time.
